A Proposal A sponsorship proposal on behalf of s.p.a.c.e for consideration by Lorna Jane.
Dear Ms Lorna Jane, My name is Alissa Phillips, the founder and CEO of a community organiza?on focused on social change and inclusive communi?es. S.P.A.C.E, which stands for specialized programs and community endeavors, aims to “ac?vate inclusive communi?es” and represents a shiF in how disability is perceived in our society. s.p.a.c.e demonstrates inclusive communi?es through physical ac?vity. I am looking to you for support in taking the concept of ‘possibility‘ and making it mainstream. Throughout the following proposal, s.p.a.c.e wishes to create a strong partnership with the Lorna Jane brand to help both people with disabili?es and the wider community use physical ac?vity as a catalyst for inclusive communi?es. It is a place where my community, girlfriends, their mothers and their grandmothers meet to exercise their bodies, minds, and spirits. I want to evolve this. I want to inspire them. I want to support them. My idea is simple. I propose that language affects our thinking and that our language is shaped by our environment. Help me line the streets with posi?ve messages one community at a ?me star?ng, of course, with s.p.a.c.e. I believe in being your authen?c self and I also believe that crea?vity can bring about engagement leading to rapid change. I work with a variety of people throughout the community, however, in this leOer I write to you on behalf of my girls. I hope that the following proposal leads to the establishment of a strong and long term partnership with Lorna Jane and that together, we can promote an ac?ve lifestyle for members of the Brisbane community. Regards,
Alissa Phillips CEO of s.p.a.c.e.
Activating Inclusive Communities By Alissa Phillips, s.p.a.c.e Founder and CEO s.p.a.c.e’s aims to “ac?vate inclusive communi?es” and represents a shiF in how disability is perceived in our society. More specifically s.p.a.c.e addresses the concept of integra?on amoungst the disabled and non disabled members of Brisbane reaching out to people as young as 6 months and as old as 85 years. Our primiary sphere of influence, however, is between the ages of 12 and 29 with a high percentage of s.p.a.c.e volunteers being uni students, young professionals and siblings of kids and teens with disabili?es. s.p.a.c.e was founded in 2007 and since then has gone on to become one of the most forward thinking social innova?ons in Brisbane. Social innova?on refers to new strategies, concepts, ideas and/or organisa?ons that meet social needs of all kinds ‐ from working condi?ons and educa?on to community development and health ‐ that
extend and strenghthen society. In the case of s.p.a.c.e we are addressing the concept of inclusive communi?es and how they can be ac?vated in our Brisbane neighbourhoods. Over the past two years s.p.a.c.e has challenged tradi?onal steriotypes of community development and current cultural images of disability. We are innova?ve through our use of conversa?on as a catalyst for change; community par?cipatory leadership and integra?on of social business prac?ces in a sector defined by government grants and charity fundraising. The s.p.a.c.e centre ac?vi?es promote healthy and ac?ve lifestyles with weekly programs centred around dance, fitness, yoga, mar?al arts and community spor?ng events. s.p.a.c.e u?lises the energy of our par?cipants and volunteers to drive the change we want to create. We keep them moving and they keep us moving. Together we move forward. Together we move in the direc?on of a beOer quality of life for all.
Since s.p.a.c.e became ac?ve we have partnered with Brisbanes Arkheifield Architecture and the Design Ins?tute of Australia to undergo major reconstruc?on and design of our facility and we are currently in nego?a?ons with Southern Cross Media Chanel 10. Some of our biggests advocates come in the form of Greg Carey 4BC Radio, Allan Border former Australian Cricket Captain and later this year we will be hos?ng corporate a fundraiser at which both Wayne Swan and Wayne BenneO will be speaking. You might no?ce that we are top heavy in the department of male role models. Although we are very grateful for their ?me and generous help to our cause the s.p.a.c.e board, as lead Alissa, is predominantly female. In addi?on to this our volunteer base has a strong cons?tuent of girls and women and finally; a not so small fact about disability is that it is dominated by males (hense the male champions and advocates. At s.p.a.c.e we work extreemly hard to encourage and inspire our female par?cipants and leadership team members. It is to this point that we offer a proposal for sponsorship of s.p.a.c.e to Lorna Jane.
