Alissa Phillips

Social Innovator and Founder and Executive Director of s.p.a.c.e

“I dare you, while you still can, to have a magnificent obsession. s.p.a.c.e is my magnificent obsession. - Alissa Phillips

The Board of Directors

Young professionals making a contribution to their community Chaired by Alissa, the s.p.a.c.e Board of Directors are a team of young professionals looking to make a contribution to their community. Nicole Border Nicole has been with s.p.a.c.e. since the days when Alissa was running her first music therapy programs out of the Kenmore High Drama Block. As a result of this long time commitment to the initial s.p.a.c.e. concept it is no wonder that Nicole now facilitates her own program Activate. Through her passion for sport and healthy living Nicole works with her clients to improve their quality of life. If you were to ask any of Nicole’s clients what she does at s.p.a.c.e. they would tell you that she ‘takes big kids for sport and makes them a reasonable size’. As a s.p.a.c.e. Director though Nicole represents the needs of the clients who participate in s.p.a.c.e. programs with an emphasis on bringing the s.p.a.c.e. clinic to fruition. Geof Alexander Geof describes himself as monotone, but to the team at s.p.a.c.e.he is the man behind the plan. Geof’s forward thinking business brain and commitment to making s.p.a.c.e. a socially responsible not for profit company lead to the creation of our unique business model of service. As s.p.a.c.e. director Geof develops policies that will be the basis of the financial operations of s.p.a.c.e. making us a sustainable and successful organisation. Krista Dislers Krista inspired the s.p.a.c.e. 'V' for volunteering campaign. She has a strong history of community involvement, with several years of volunteering for numerous organiations, which is why she was the obvious choice to take the role of our volunteer co-ordinator. Her skills and experience tick all the boxes but it is her exuberance and enthusiasm for life that makes her our volunteering role model. As s.p.a.c.e. Director Krista is responsible for rallying the troops and assisting with event organisation and co-ordination.

“Each of us wants to be treated as a unique and valuable individual, but we each have a simultaneous need to belong to something greater than ourselves, something more than one alone can do or be. -Building Community

David Waldie is the s.p.a.c.e Ambassador. His role involves public speaking, social media development, working with the Board, supervision students and assisting the Executive Director with stakeholder relations. David writes his own newsletter for s.p.a.c.e and enjoys blogging on his facebook page. Dave has been a keen and active s.p.a.c.e participant over many years. One of David’s life goals is to be a leader and role model to his peers, to tell and show others, “You can do it. Believe in yourself”. He articulates this well in his involvement in s.p.a.c.e as the s.p.a.c.e Ambassador. His passion for music and the telling of his life and experiences through his song writing and public performances is an inspiration to all who listen to him. He is as active in his online community through social networking sites as Facebook and Youtube as he is in his community in Kenmore. Through the opportunity to co-facilitate the s.p.a.c.e R.E.P Program with Alissa Dave helps mentor participants by encouraging and challenging them to ‘speak out’ on themselves, others and issues. As s.p.a.c.e volunteer David embraces the s.p.a.c.e community with his abundant enthusiasm by facilitating online communication and discussions in the online s.p.a.c.e community forums.
