URBAN/ENVIRONMENT:

Despite being relatively minor, the presence of urban elements at Tangalooma has had a noticeable effect on the growth of vegetation. As demonstrated by the adjacent graph, the density and height of the local vegetation is inversely paralleled with the location of buildings. In contrast, the aquatic environment of Tangalooma has been greatly enhanced by the prescence of artifical structure, with the establishment of an artifical reef greatly increasing marine biodiversity in the area.

Coastal:

The Tangalooma coastline boast an aquatic environment rich in biodiversity courtesy of the adjacent artificial reef established in 1980.

Flora:

As an extension of Moreton Island, Tangalooma shares a fragile ecology with vegetation communities including swamps, heathlands and woodlands.

Fauna:

Tangalooma is home to various species of both terrestial and aqautic wildlife, including 14 species of mammals, 11 species of amphibians and 16 types of reptiles.
