Impact Report 2022–23
It is no secret that the landscape of higher education has changed drastically over the last few years. Where many institutions have struggled, Allegheny is rising to the challenge and working tirelessly to ensure the best education and environment possible for our students. As we chart this pathway forward, I know with your continued partnership, we will succeed in this mission and bring Allegheny into a bright future. I am regularly amazed by the kindness and commitment of our Allegheny community, and this past year has certainly been no exception. The 2022-2023 fiscal year exceeded all of our expectations. Allegheny alumni, parents, employees, students, and friends gave more than $19 million to the College, surpassing all past annual fundraising totals. Donations to the Annual Fund were at their all-time highest, just shy of $4.6 million in gifts, touching every aspect of the life-changing Allegheny experience. I would be remiss if I also didn’t acknowledge the many alumni who volunteered their time and talents to vitally important campus committees, programs, and initiatives. Simply put, I am blown away and extend my deepest gratitude and appreciation for how you supported our students and contributed to their success this past year. I hope this 2022-2023 Impact Report fills you with pride. Without your dedication and generosity, these impressive accomplishments and inspiring student stories would not be possible. We celebrate your loyalty and are incredibly grateful for the difference you make in the lives of current and future Gators. Sincerely, Matthew P. Stinson Vice President for Institutional Advancement

My scholarship support has enabled me to come here to Allegheny, where I’ve gotten such a great education. There have been so many great opportunities here. I’ve met so many great people, and the professors have taught me so much and mentored me so much, and I’m so grateful for all of the opportunities that are here. I just wanted to take the time to thank you for what you’ve done to enable all of that to be possible.

Student Impact
The extraordinary generosity of Allegheny donors made an incredible impact in the lives of students in 2022-23. Here are a few highlights.
“I chose Allegheny because I am able to push myself as a student while representing the Gators as a cross country and track athlete. The ability I have had to communicate with my professors, access research opportunities, and get involved in the Meadville community have further reinforced my decision to come here. My current career goal is to work in the medical field, most likely as a physician’s assistant or doctor. I was raised by a single father, and finding the funds to attend college was always a source of stress for me. Knowing that because of this scholarship I am able to attend such a great school and set myself up for future success has been a huge help and has shown me that I can have the future I want without being held back by finances. Thank you so much for your generosity, and know that it has made a huge difference in my life.

Donor-funded scholarships were awarded in the amount of $7,262,395.
“Recently, the price of my daily asthma medication sky-rocketed up from $75 to $187. I was sorrowful, angry and desperate. Then I learned about the Gator Success Grant and applied for it. Because of your generosity, I can keep myself healthy and well again. Thank you for being there and making a difference.”
Charla ’24
$243,919 was given to provide funds for students’ emergency needs through the Gator Success Grant program. 214 students requested assistance through Gator Success Grants. Some of the ways that students were supported included: financial aid and gap funding; medical and dental bills and prescription assistance; computers and textbooks; winter coats and boots and professional attire; emergency travel; and graduate school applications.

The research experience this past summer will be extremely valuable to me. The skills I obtained during my participation can be applied in the workforce. I feel more prepared and confident for my future schoolwork, my future career, and my life in general. This opportunity would not have been possible without your donations. I am truly appreciative of your support. I cannot thank you enough, as this opportunity has changed my life for the better.

91 students had the opportunity to collaborate on research projects with their faculty mentors in summer 2023.
“My internship experience has been amazing! I have been learning a lot of things, not only professionally but also as a person. I have been improving my skills over time and have been getting used to working through pressure and timelines. The funding that has been provided to me has been one of the best things that happened to me over the years. I have been able to do things that I could not have done without your help. I thank you a thousand times, and will always keep this experience with me.”

Trustees are elected to four-year terms and may serve three consecutive terms (12 years). The Board of Trustees has fiduciary responsibility for the governance of the College and is governed by bylaws. Through its work as a full board and seven committees, it supervises and monitors the institution’s broad policies. The full Board meets three times a year, twice on campus and once off-campus. Committees meet at least three times a year though some meet more frequently to fulfill their responsibilities.

Why I Give …because the students here are amazing - not just intellectually but also as genuinely kind and socially engaged people. Our students make a difference throughout their years on campus and their lives beyond it. Professor Michael Mehler, Faculty Chair of Communication, Media, and Performance …because our son is thriving at AC. The challenging academics have kept him motivated and the supportive faculty are fantastic. We have watched him grow in so many ways and will always be grateful for the foundation that AC is giving him for his future. Plus, he has built really meaningful and diverse relationships that have positively influenced his path. Gator parent …because my Allegheny education has given me the opportunity to teach college students now, my dream job, so I constantly feel grateful for the foundational support and care I received as an undergraduate! It’s absolutely a privilege to be able to donate to Allegheny and ensure others get to have this unique college experience, too. Ashleigh Fox ‘02 …because we met at Allegheny and three of our children graduated from Allegheny. All are successful and happy! Let’s support the college’s great batting average. Make a contribution and ensure the legacy lives on. Go Gators! Al ’78 and Carol Lynch ’80 Coppolo …because the Center for Business and Economics has given me a lot of professional development opportunities and that has led to success in finding internships and getting job placement after graduation. RJ ’24 …because I have been an Allegheny College Biology/Neuroscience professor for 22 years! I am inspired every day by my students and colleagues. Thank you for reminding me why I love my job.
