This LEGO® class gives students a fundamental understanding of STEM concepts. Students will build awesome working models to investigate the principles of simple machines, mechanisms, and structures. Embark on an exciting journey of creativity and innovation! Craft an array of fascinating contraptions and gizmos that defy gravity. In this kid favorite, your child will work to improve their shooting technique, dribbling skills, ball handling skills, passing skills and their understanding of offensive and defensive movement while improving their overall health and fitness. ART EXPERIENCES WITH LORI

Who’s ready for a scientific mystery? We’re on a case with kid science detectives Fossey and Doyle from Michelle Torrey’s The Case of the Gasping Garbage. Set up your science lab and work with your partner to perform experiments and crack the case. On the last day of class you’ll put your detective skills and science knowledge to the test to solve an escape room mystery!

B3: WIZARDS POTIONS LAB

Have you always wanted to attend Hogwarts, discover wand lore or brew fantastical potions? Experience a week-long journey filled with magic as you create wands, duel witches and wizards, compete for the coveted “house cup,” brew potions (such as glow-in-the-dark slime), design and build broomsticks, unlock the secret recipe for butterbeer and other crafts.

DANCE ADVENTURE CAMP

An imaginative dance camp for kids! Beginners will learn the basics of Ballet, Jazz, Musical Theater and Hip Hop in an expressive way. Dancers complete a fun warm-up, choreography and creative activities with emphasis on theme and performance skills. Workout clothes required. Ballet and Jazz shoes are optional. Parents will watch their dancers shine during the parent show-off on the final day.

ELEMENTARY BALLET CAMP

Students will learn basic ballet technique and terminology of Ballet. Students will also be working on performance pieces of choreograph. Through fun and energetic exercises, in a structured class setting, students will focus on fluidity of motion, musicality, and performance skills. Leotard, tights, and ballet shoes are required. On the final day of camp parent will watch their dancers shine during the parent show-off!

So you say you have done it all with Lego? Let Lego Expert teach you otherwise! Activity-based STEM projects and kits will incorporate physical science, and math. Learn beginning coding you can see, hear, and even chase across the room. Give your creation the most torque and battle in robotic tournaments. Race against the clock and other teams to be the best Lego expert around. Real-world team building activities will enhance students’ engineering skill sets.

Bring young technicians into a creative, engineering environment with hands-on construction. Engage in the creative activities of Lego Mania! This innovative program for Lego buffs provides opportunities for imagination and hands-on learning under the guidance of a certified educator. Over 15 new games, projects and activities not found in stores will be planned and manipulated. Enrichment in the areas of personal creativity, following instructions, coordination, problem-solving and critical thinking will be experienced as the child constructs dinosaurs, rockets, castles, airplanes, forts, cars, and more!

SKYHAWKS CHEER CAMP

Skyhawks cheer camp ensures each camper will learn cheers, proper hand and body movements as well as jumping techniques. There is no stunting, just a big focus on fun while each cheerleader learns important life skills such as teambuilding and leadership. The week concludes with a choreographed performance.

SKYHAWKS VOLLEYBALL CAMP

Experience the energy and excitement of this great team sport in one fun-filled program. All aspects of the game are taught through drills and exercises that focus on passing, setting, hitting and serving. This co-ed program is designed for the beginner to intermediate player and will incorporate essential life-lessons such as teamwork and sportsmanship.

Thinking about becoming a doctor one day? If so, this camp is for you! Star Wars fans and future astronauts will go out-of-this-world! Campers will explore the mysteries of space and learn about our solar system and space travel. Students will create moon rocks, Yoda’s bubbling slime swamp, chemical powered rockets, beautiful artwork, solar system bracelets, design and build a solar oven, test their own air powered flyers modeled after their favorite star fighter.

Travel back more than 65 million years and check out some of the most amazing creatures to walk the Earth: dinosaurs! You’ll use your paleontology skills and discover what these prehistoric animals looked like, how they behaved, and more. This week will be dino-mite with fossil making, a coprolite study, dino eggs, predator vs. prey and tons of fun art projects, experiments, and games.

Students will make new friends grouped into Design Teams for a variety of fun, engaging activities such as White Wedding and Fashion Showdown.

FAST FORWARD KIDS: SURVIVAL TACTICS

Wrapped in games and adventure, unique challenges await you. During survival situations, the four basic needs become shelter, water, fire, and food. By introducing basic techniques, your child will learn how to purify water, signal for help, leave no trace camping, first aid, search for edible food, set up shelter, learn Army chants, and more! Team survival games keep the training lighthearted and fun! Essential skills for all, and designed for kids who like to play outside.

This exciting camp utilizes basketball, soccer, dodgeball and other traditional sports to cross-train children of all skill levels while teaching them how to succeed on and off the field! SSA: YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR YOUTUBE

This unique program introduces students of all skills sets to business and financial basics while building a group YouTube business. Students will learn to identify problems, find solutions, and create products before marketing and selling them through YouTube and other mediums. Join us today! This camp utilizes flag football to teach players standard football rules, throwing technique, drop-steps, field vision, formations, and other skills while participating in team competitions and games! Camp time also focuses on leadership, inner-confidence, attitude, speed, power, explosiveness, nutrition, exercise, and hard work. This camp is safe, educational, and FUN!

B3: FUTURE VET

This is THE camp for animal lovers and future veterinarians! Campers will “adopt” a stuffed animal to perform mock exams, surgeries and other procedures. The stuffed animal is theirs to keep. Camp topics include a vet’s office, pharmacy and lab, basic animal anatomy and physiology, pet care and nutrition, first aid and emergencies, diagnosing common Illnesses and Injuries, treatment plans, solving “medical mysteries” and getting into vet school.

B3: FROZEN STEAM

This is the coolest camp around! Handson STEM activities with fun themes inspired by the movie Frozen! Learn about absorption and dissolution by building ice towers. Explore states of matter including solid, liquid and gas forces. Build and test a “snowball launcher” and sled. Then learn to create a code to help Princess Elsa skate. More icy-cold STEM challenges and crafts will fill this week!

B3: ARCHITECTURE SUPER STRUCTURES

Love building and designing super structures? Young architects will test materials, meet design constraints, and dream up amazing structures using a variety of different materials including LEGO bricks. Learn about Greek, Roman and Gothic architecture by designing a temple, bridges, arches, pediments, “stained glass” windows and more. Kids will participate in design challenges like earthquake proof building, build structures from around the world with architectural design elements.

Calling all Minecraft fans to this one-of-a kind camp that is the perfect blend of themed STEAM activities. Campers will rotate through four fun and engaging stations each day with activities that include building with LEGO Minecraft sets, themed science experiments, art, and engineering builds, stop motion movies, and more.

SSA: HERCULES OLYMPIC CHALLENGE

Run, jump, throw and compete in ancient and modern sports like real Olympians! Games include everything from gladiator dodgeball, to nerf javelin and frisbee discus, to tug of war, as well as Dream Team Basketball and Pele Soccer. 3 individual medals will be given for Most Improved Olympian, Hardest Working Olympian and Hercules Leader of Leaders. This is a great camp full of life lessons, honor and fun.

Spring into a world of vibrant colors and scientific discovery. Our camp is designed to teach kids about the science of rainbows, light, and refraction in a fun and engaging way. With lots of exciting activities, your child will have a blast exploring crystal rainbows, experimenting with colorful science, and making an art-bot that can color a rainbow. Our expert instructors will guide kids through these amazing activities, teaching them important scientific concepts along the way.

Any future engineers out there? This is the camp for them! This camp focuses on four areas of engineering: Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, & Electrical. Learn how engineers use scientific understanding of the natural world to invent, design, and build things to solve problems and achieve goals. Identify problems, brainstorm solutions, build prototypes, test and improve their solutions.

An experience designed to introduce children to the circus, performing and visual arts. Any level of physical development and skill is welcome. Your camper will receive circus arts instruction and have the time of their life learning to perform with silks, special hoops and loops, the art of magic, balloon art and get all fancy with clown face painting. Embark on an enchanting journey in a camp inspired by the magical world of the Magic Tree House Books. Encounter magical challenges inspired by the books, encouraging critical thinking and problem solving in a whimsical setting.

B3: EPIC ENGINEERING DISASTERS

Campers will explore historical disasters, from collapsing buildings like the Fidenae stadium, bridges like the Tay Bridge Tacoma Narrows Bridge, and ships like the Titanic. They will build various structures to discover what went wrong, then design and test solutions. Some other disasters covered are the Colossus of Rhodes, Tower of Pisa, Exxon oil spills and wings of Icarus.

INTERMEDIATE FOUNDATIONS OF SHOTOKAN KARATE

Students will learn idou kihon (moving basics) with diverse blocking, punching and kicking techniques. Progress through rank-specific kata, engage in traditional kihon kumite for basic attack/defense training, participate in free fighting (jiyu kumite), and develop kihon-based self-defense skills. Students will learn karate history, philosophy, and theory with an explanation of Japanese kanji for a deeper understanding of proper technique. Prerequisites: two sessions of beginner fundamentals with a 8th kyu rank.

The Saplings Playroom is a safe and engaging environment for little ones to explore, play and make new friends while at Terrell Recreation Center. Our playroom provides up to 2 hours of daily supervised care for children age 3 months to 9 years.

The cardio zone holds top-of-the-line Precor and Aviron equipment. The machines provide high-tech features such as wireless cellphone battery chargers and large, next-gen screens to screencast favorite shows from your phone.

Build strength and tone muscle in our second-floor strength-training area with equipment from Hammer Strength, Precor and Life Fitness. Discover a variety of circuit machines and free weights designed to target every muscle group.

ADVENTURE TRACK

For the seasoned runner, leisurely walker and everyone in between, our indoor adventure track offers a comfortable place to move year-round. The track loop is 1/9-mile and adventure track (with stairs and inclined options) is 1/8-mile loop.

FITNESS DECK

Step outside onto our outdoor fitness deck, equipped with medicine balls, ropes, chin-up bars, a punching bag, and more, for an exercise experience in the fresh air. This zone is a great space to weave functional training workouts into your routine.

The Rec Gym

MULTI-SPORT COURTS

Round out your fitness routine and meet friends for a game on our versatile gym courts. Our Rec Gym is comprised of three half-sized courts, one which includes an athletic turf option for games like futsal, indoor soccer and training. Scan the code above for the daily court schedule.

BATTING CAGES

Practice indoors on turf! Maintain your baseball or softball skills year-round with the batting cages and the slow-to-fast pitching machine. Sessions must be booked 24 hours in advance online or in-person at the Member Services desk if court is available.

The Fieldhouse

Meet the fieldhouse gymnasium, home to many future sessions of practice, play and competition for Allen. The gymnasium holds eight middle school/four full-sized courts for games of basketball, volleyball and pickleball, as well as plenty of spectator seating. Throughout the year you can expect to see active adult leagues, adult and youth tournaments, specialty programming, scheduled practices for Allen Sports Association, dedicated open play hours and so much more.

POLICIES

SPECTATOR POLICY

The facilities are controlled access. All persons entering the facility must have a current membership, purchase a day pass, or participate in a fee-forservice recreation program. Facilities do not allow free access for any persons entering the facility. For ASA practices, tournaments and events, access to the fieldhouse is granted.

DEFINITION OF A FAMILY

No more than two adult heads of household and dependents that are 26 years of age or younger in school or living at home. It also includes persons with special needs living as a single housekeeping unit at the same address. Dependents must be those that are claimed on taxes and proof may be requested by staff.

PROOF OF RESIDENCY

Resident rates are only available to those who live or work within the city limits of Allen and/or pay property taxes to the City of Allen. You must provide proof of residency or proof of employment within the City of Allen the first time you register in order to receive the resident rate. Once you are in our system, you will not need to prove residency again unless your address changes. Acceptable forms of proof include a valid driver’s license, state identification card, or current gas, electric, water or trash/recycle bill that shows your name and address. Allen residency is verified using Collin County Central Appraisal District website.

GUEST POLICY

Members are allowed to bring guests to the facility. Guests are required to pay the daily usage fees and sign off on a waiver for use of membership-based amenities.

FREEZES

In the event you are unable to utilize one of the recreational facilities, you may freeze your membership account for $10/month. Please visit the specific facility guidelines for more details. A member may request that their account be frozen. A reason for the freeze is not required. Freezes may be done on the day requested as well as in advance for a future date. All freezes must be a minimum of 30 days; there is not a maximum time an account can be frozen on monthly memberships. Memberships must be unfrozen in person. Unfreezing a membership can be done by the head of the household at the Member Services Desk at any time.

FITNESS FLOOR/DECK AND GROUP EXERCISE

No children under the age of 13 are allowed on the fitness floor or in group exercise classes, except for family classes.

PLAYROOM

Children ages 3 months to 9 years may stay for a maximum of two hours per day. Parents/guardians/designated persons are prohibited from leaving the facility grounds and can result in a 30-day loss of Playroom privileges.

MONTH-TO-MONTH MEMBERSHIPS

A 30-day written notice is required to discontinue the monthly deduction. For the Stephen G. Terrell Recreation Center, the one-time service fee at the time of membership set up is non-refundable. If a membership has been inactive for greater than 90 days, the $75 enrollment fee will be assessed again.

A WORD TO PARENTS

Our goal is to provide patrons with a safe and clean atmosphere in which families can enjoy themselves in a recreational environment. Parents are expected to closely supervise their children when not participating in a program and assist in enforcing the facilities policies for the safety and enjoyment of all patrons. All children, ages nine years and under, must be accompanied by a supervising individual 16 years or older.
