Marin Program We are delighted to announce that our latest Nepal Earthquake Relief Program is now complete! Between October 2019 and March 2020, 131 volunteers from 27 nations worked together day after day to bring two disaster-resilient school campuses to the remote villages of Betpani and Barhabise. When the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic on March 11, 2020, All Hands and Hearts made the difficult but necessary decision to suspend volunteer activity until it was deemed safe and responsible to resume work. While it has sadly not been possible for international volunteers to return due to COVID-19 restrictions, in January 2021, our dedicated team of Nepali staff and masons returned to Marin and picked up right where the volunteers had left off. Thanks to their incredible hard work and dedication, Program Marin was completed on April 26, 2021! Thakureshwor and Janakalyan Schools now have 19 spacious classrooms, hygienic and gender appropriate bathrooms, fun and engaging playgrounds and water filtration systems to provide safe drinking water. These fun and productive learning environments will directly benefit more than 700 students over the next ten years and, crucially, are resilient against future disasters. Watch this video to see the construction process at Thakureshwor.
Community Voices “I am very happy to see the way All Hands and Hearts constructed the school. Last year, school construction was paused, unfortunately, due to the pandemic. The community was worried about what would happen to our school. Now, seeing the level of COVID-19 safety protocols that the AHAH team is following while continuing the work, it is a standard beyond our expectations. I have no words to express our happiness. All of the teachers, students and parents are extremely happy.” - Daulat Singh Thing, Thakureshwor Principal

On April 25, 2015, a 7.8 earthquake hit Nepal near the capital city of Kathmandu; the worst of its kind in more than 80 years. More than 9,000 people lost their lives, a further 23,000 were injured and there was major destruction of homes and infrastructure. The earthquake resulted in more than 5,000 schools being damaged or completely destroyed. On May 12, 2015, a second 7.3 earthquake struck the country, causing further devastation and loss of lives.
Our Work Thanks to the crucial support of our partners, donors, local community and volunteers from around the world, we have been running impactful programs in Nepal since 2015. We have completed 24 schools to date, serving 6000+ students. We have implemented Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) facilities, including toilets and water filtration systems at our schools. And recently AHAH has introduced EdTech (educational technology), which is the use of technological resources that facilitate learning and improve academic performance at selected schools.
About All Hands and Hearts We effectively and efficiently address the immediate and long-term needs of communities impacted by natural disasters. We communicate directly with local leaders and community members and then deploy our unique model of engaging volunteers to enable direct impact, helping to build safer, more resilient schools, homes and infrastructure. We have earned a 4-star rating by Charity Navigator for the seventh year in a row. This year only seven percent of rated non-profits received this distinction for financial and operational efficiency.
