VOLUNTEERS

After the success of our COVID-19 Emergency PPE Fund in New York, we continued to explore additional ways we could leverage our disaster-relief experience to support COVID-19 relief activities. Los Angeles County was identified as one potential place in which we could help address critical needs for the community as demands for services were at an all-time high and local volunteer availability was significantly constrained.

VOLUNTEER HOURS

We launched our Los Angeles COVID-19 Relief Program in October and, working in partnership with LA Regional Food Bank and CORE, we are assembling emergency meal kits, distributing meals to families in need and orchestrating free COVID-19 tests. Our volunteers have already clocked up over 1,200 hours of service!

Community Stories “From the moment I met the volunteers from All Hands and Hearts, I knew we were in good hands...and hearts. Everybody has been super hands on onsite, adding an infectiously positive and uplifting spirit to the CORE team. They have embraced our mission whole-heartedly and single-handedly embedded themselves into the core of our culture. Onsite they have taken on multiple tasks, such as registering patients, overseeing the selfadministered tests, counting test kits in the mornings, and helping decontaminate PPE throughout the day. We are so grateful for this partnership!” - Zach Zucker, Volunteer Liaison at CORE Testing Site in LA

Disaster Profile The COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause significant impact to the Los Angeles (LA), California county area. To date, there are more than 311,000 confirmed cases, 7,000 deaths in LA County and the threat level remains high — signifying that COVID-19 could overwhelm the community and health care system if not controlled.

Our Work Our team has been in Los Angeles since early July, working with new and existing partners to identify how we might be most effective in supporting the Los Angeles community through the COVID-19 crisis. More volunteers to assist with food distribution and back-of-house support for COVID-19 testing were identified as key, current COVID-19 related needs, and we aim to address these needs by increasing the capacity of partner organizations, LA Regional Food Bank and CORE. With up to 30 volunteers, on a weekly basis, our goal is to assemble 35,000 emergency meal kits, distribute 55,000 meals to families in need and orchestrate 30,000 COVID-19 tests.

About All Hands and Hearts We effectively and efficiently address the immediate and long-term needs of communities impacted by natural disasters. We communicate directly with local leaders and community members and then deploy our unique model of engaging volunteers to enable direct impact, helping to build safer, more resilient schools, homes and infrastructure. We have earned a 4-star rating by Charity Navigator six years in a row and a Perfect 100. Less than one percent of rated nonprofits have received this distinction for financial and operational efficiency.
