Our amazing AHAH staff and volunteers have been working hard to finish the homes in the areas we work in, completing six homes last month alone! As a program, we’re thrilled to report that we’ve officially helped over 800 beneficiaries to date.
Project Spotlight For the past few months our team on the ground has been working closely with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bay County in their recovery from Hurricane Michael. After performing muck and guts and a mold sanitation on two of their buildings, we repaired a chain link fence that surrounds the sports fields and playground area, previously damaged by fallen trees. The team then repainted the exterior walls of the gymnasium building. We scraped off the existing, peeling paint, resealed the walls, and then painted all four sides of the building. Sarah Capobianco, one of our AHAH staff members, designed a mural for us to paint on one of the walls and with the help of the volunteer team, we invited the Boys and Girls Club attendees to come out and join in with the painting. We had 15 volunteers and 10 kids from the community come out that day.

Disaster Profile On October 10, 2018 Hurricane Michael slammed into Mexico Beach, Florida as a Category 5 hurricane with maximum sustained wind speeds of 160 mph. With record-breaking wind speeds, Michael is both the strongest storm to make landfall in the continental US (since Hurricane Andrew in 1992) and to ever hit the Florida Panhandle. Tracking across the Southeastern United States, winds plunged 1.4 million residents into complete darkness in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia and the Carolinas. Communities across the region were devastated, with full towns in the Panhandle are demolished beyond recognition.
Our Work Thanks to the crucial support of our partners, donors, local community and volunteers from all over the world, our program has been cultivating a powerful impact in Florida since October 2018. Assessing the immense and widespread destruction of the storm, our team initially identified a need for tree work, debris removal, mucking and gutting and mold sanitation. Based on the high needs still present in Bay County, the decision was made to extend and expand the program into recovery through December 2019, by which time we will complete resilient repairs to the homes of 18 vulnerable families.
About All Hands and Hearts We effectively and efficiently address the immediate and long-term needs of communities impacted by natural disasters. We communicate directly with local leaders and community members and then deploy our unique model of engaging volunteers to enable direct impact, helping to build safer, more resilient schools, homes and infrastructure. We have earned a 4-star rating by Charity Navigator six years in a row and a Perfect 100. Less than one percent of rated nonprofits have received this distinction for financial and operational efficiency.
