Current Activities The welcoming community in Panama City, FL, is inspiring high energy across our volunteers and staff team in their work for victims of Hurricane Michael. More than a year after the storm, we are still seeing dozens of individuals from across the world come out in support of Florida’s affected communities. Pictured above is our current team! In addition to our residential volunteers, we successfully hosted a volunteer event with 20 individuals from the IronMan team, who over the course of one day was able to complete the interior painting of four homes. Our teams always welcome the excitement and energy of corporate volunteer groups — reach out to our Corporate Engagement Manager at danielle.g@allhandsandhearts.org to plan your next trip! Our team has also been working closely with the local Boys and Girls Club to rehabilitate their facility for use by the community’s children. Exciting build and painting projects are in the works this winter.
Community Voices “I always like to ask people where they’re from, what made them decide to get into it. I think someone from Norway came and was helping with the tree and debris removal, a lot of people from England… that’s amazing that it’s not just national, but it’s international. We are proud here, we don’t like asking for stuff, and a lot of us have been put into positions where for the first time we’ve had to ask. ” Greg Dossie, Panama City homeowner (pictured left)

Disaster Profile On October 10, 2018 Hurricane Michael slammed into Mexico Beach, Florida as a Category 5 hurricane with maximum sustained wind speeds of 160 mph. With record-breaking wind speeds, Michael is both the strongest storm to make landfall in the continental US (since Hurricane Andrew in 1992) and to ever hit the Florida Panhandle. Tracking across the Southeastern United States, winds plunged 1.4 million residents into complete darkness in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia and the Carolinas. Communities across the region were devastated, with full towns in the Panhandle are demolished beyond recognition.
Our Work Thanks to the crucial support of our partners, donors, local community and volunteers from all over the world, our program has been cultivating a powerful impact in Florida since October 2018. Assessing the immense and widespread destruction of the storm, our team initially identified a need for tree work, debris removal, mucking and gutting and mold sanitation. Based on the high needs still present in Bay County, the decision was made to extend and expand the program into recovery through December 2019.
