For the past seven months, we have been in Oaxaca, Mexico, working hard to bring resilience to a community shaken by the Central Mexico earthquakes. We are delighted to announce that Celso Munoz Primary School and Jardin de Ninos 13 de Septiembre Preschool are now both complete! These two new, earthquake resilient schools now not only have safe classrooms and WASH, but have been beautifully finished off with new furniture, landscaping, playgrounds, and murals, both inside and out. See here for a short video of the new schools. The buildings were handed over to the community in a wonderful celebration on 26th July 2019, which was attended by donors, All Hands and Hearts staff and volunteers, and the whole local community. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this project possible, and to say that we hope you will continue to support us throughout the next project in Mitla, Oaxaca, which is already underway! More to come on that next month.
Volunteer Voices “Coming to work and be at All Hands and Hearts was an amazing experience. Not only did I feel like I was able to have an impact and make a small contribution to the amazing work this program is doing, but I feel like I have been able to integrate and interact with the community I am trying to help. Between the salsa lesson, cooking lesson, mi casa es tu casa, working with the masons, and getting to know the people in the community from my daily interactions, I built a sense of home during my stay in Selina del Marquez.”

Disaster Profile The Central Mexico earthquake struck on September 19, 2017. The 7.1 magnitude earthquake caused severe damage in the state of Morelos and the greater Mexico City area. Nearly two years after the devastating earthquakes hit, many schools in Mexico are still unsafe for children to learn in, forcing many students to study in unsafe, temporary learning centers.
Our Work In partnership with Happy Hearts Fund Mexico and with support from donors, partners and volunteers from around the world, we have run an impactful program in Mexico since February 26, 2018. Initially working in the state of Morelos, our efforts have since extended into Oaxaca, where we have just completed Celso Munoz Primary School and Jardin de Niños 13 de Septiembre Preschool. We are very pleased to announce that we have already begun work on a third school in Mitla, Oaxaca, which will provide more students with a safe, secure place to go to school everyday.
