Current Activities Makwanpur Program Our amazing team in Makwanpur have entered into the final month of the project. Plaster work and roofing is completed in both of the new buildings and installation of doors and window shutters have started in the first building. A kitchen is being built to support the school’s lunch program, and landscaping and painting work of the preexisting, safe buildings are underway. The school will soon be finished and will be handed over to the community on March 2, 2020. Marin Program Despite the challenging winter weather, our teams have been working tirelessly on our Marin Program. In Thakureshwor, we have completed construction up to the sill band and all the doors and window frames have been installed in all four buildings. On the other site, the team at Janakalyan have completed work up to plinth level. They are moving fast towards completing Phase I of construction and will soon be installing doors and laying bricks up to the sill level. Additionally, we have started working on the WaSH facilities of both schools. The layout and excavation have been completed and the teams are installing the formwork and rebar to get ready for the pour of the foundations.
Community Voice “I had a very difficult childhood; my mother passed away when I was young and my father had to leave us to work as a laborer abroad, we lived with our stepmother. I could not focus on my education and skipped school which led into failure at seventh grade. I started working as a co-driver when I was 16 and started driving when I was only 19 years old. I am now working as a driver for AHAH and I am very impressed by the attention given to safety. I am learning English with the volunteers, they have also gifted me books. I like the working culture and the atmosphere at base. I have realized education is important for changing the lives of people. I want my brother to get a degree and I plan to spend my savings on my brother’s education.”

Disaster Profile On April 25, 2015, a 7.8 earthquake hit Nepal near the capital city of Kathmandu; the worst of its kind in more than 80 years. More than 9,000 people lost their lives, a further 23,000 were injured and there was major destruction of homes infrastructure. The earthquake resulted in more than 5,000 schools being damaged or completely destroyed. On May 12, 2015, a second 7.3 earthquake struck the country, causing further devastation and loss of lives.
Our Work Thanks to the crucial support of our partners, donors, local community and volunteers from around the world, we have been running impactful programs in Nepal since 2015. We have completed 21 schools to date, serving 5000+ students, and we are currently working on three more schools. We have implemented Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) facilities, including toilets and water filtration systems at our schools. Recently AHAH has introduced EdTech (educational technology), which is the use of technological resources that facilitate learning and improve academic performance at selected schools.
About All Hands and Hearts We effectively and efficiently address the immediate and long-term needs of communities impacted by natural disasters. We communicate directly with local leaders and community members and then deploy our unique model of engaging volunteers to enable direct impact, helping to build safer, more resilient schools, homes and infrastructure. We have earned a 4-star rating by Charity Navigator six years in a row and a Perfect 100. Less than one percent of rated nonprofits have received this distinction for financial and operational efficiency.
