CLASSROOMS IN PROGRESS

Current Activities Progress at "Itzcoatl" kindergarten is moving fast and the classrooms finally have a roof! With an incredible push from all the volunteers, hired masons, carpenters, and staff, the roof was completed, and the formwork has already been removed. The team also finished building the septic tank and the water tank. They just have the covers to finish now. As for the playground, the municipality donated some tires, which will be reused and installed within the grounds. Lastly, the team finished scraping the old paint and managed to complete three-quarters of the fence. At the "Revolution" elementary school, in the library and office/bathroom building, the team have finished installing the new double panel roof. All of the old paint has been removed, the new paintwork is finished, the toilets and sinks have been installed, and the tiling is almost complete. We are waiting now for the arrival of the windows and doors. In the kitchen, the plasterwork is done and we are about to start with the counters, sink, tabletops, and the construction of a Lorena stove.

Community Stories In celebration of the Day of the Dead in Mexico, on November 2nd, the volunteers participated in different public activities with the children of both schools. This included building an altar, coloring paper skulls, singing songs, making rap battles, playing games and, of course, eating delicious enmoladas. The team also organised a special event with the community, a Calavera Run: a thematic race (wearing costumes) along the streets of the community to raise funds for the construction. The children came out of their homes to share their laughs and show their support to the runners! At the end of the day the event managed to raise more than $ 6,000 US dollars for the project!

Testimony "I really enjoyed my time volunteering with All Hands and Hearts. The staff were all very professional and inclusive, and the family atmosphere between volunteers was the best culture I have ever experienced when volunteering for an organization. Furthermore, the impact that we have on the community as a whole is made clear and is really inspiring. Ale, the community coordinator clearly does an amazing job! ... Overall, my experience has been incredible thanks to all of the staff and volunteers, and I can't wait to join in on another project in the future! "
