MEXICO EARTHQUAKE UPDATE - MORELOS (October 2018)
CURRENT ACTIVITIES Both of the Morelos school projects are preparing for students and celebrations in the weeks to come! Here’s what’s happening in their final stages: Narciso Mendoza ● The finishing coats of paint are being painted and final tiles being laid in the classroom buildings. ● The water tank and pump are being installed in the bathroom facility. ● In the computer + multipurpose room, windows, bars, and the door have been fitted. The roof has been waterproofed and we are ready to top off the electrical with sockets. ● The platform and steps for the picnic area are complete and benches are being poured. ● The new playground has been installed. ● Trees and shrubs are planted in the garden!
Vicente Guerrero ● We have poured the roof to top off the brand new classroom building! Now the last of the plastering has been completed and we’re painting the primer coat. ● The new building is ready for glass windows, as we’ve installed the window frames. ● One retrofit classroom building has completed all brickwork, while another has completed all plastering and is ready for painting and tiling. ● Leveling of the toilet stalls is complete and tiling of the bathrooms is underway. ● Drainage and electrical installation has begun. ● Electrical pipes are being installed throughout the school.
Volunteers gathered with students from Narciso Mendoza and Vicente Guerrero for art sessions at the temporary learning centers, led by an art teacher from Escuelas Sustentables..
Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) sessions continue to help each school prepare for possible future disasters. Themes covered in the sessions have included natural hazards, non-structural hazards, risk assessment, and first aid.

DISASTER PROFILE The Central Mexico Earthquake struck on September 19, 2017. The 7.1 magnitude earthquake caused severe damage in the state of Morelos and the greater Mexico City area. OUR WORK In partnership with Happy Hearts Fund Mexico and with support from donors, partners, and volunteers from around the world, All Hands and Hearts – Smart Response has run an impactful
