OKLAHOMA RELIEF - FLOOD RESPONSE JUNE 2019 June 8, 2019

CURRENT SITUATION In May 2019, a devastating storm system swept through the central United States causing rivers to rise dramatically and prompting evacuations in Oklahoma and Arkansas. The town of Sand Springs (a western suburb of Tulsa) received some of the greatest residential ooding along the Arkansas River between May 22nd and May 31st. As a result, the communities of Meadow Valley and Town and Country (within Sand Springs) were inundated by ood waters. In these two neighborhoods alone, an estimated 200-250 properties have been inundated with 1-5 feet of water. Homeowners are in a desperate situation, seeking assistance as they clear their homes of this damage. SCOPE OF WORK

By strategically positioning ourselves in Missouri, our Disaster Assessment Response Team was able to begin assessments and mobilize mucking and gutting teams within 48 hours of the water receding. Responding quickly to this type of event is crucial. Even low levels of water entering the home can quickly develop into mold. As we continue to work in the community, we will begin to evaluate the need for mold sanitization.

GET INVOLVED Focusing on the immediate and greatest need, we have deployed our team to begin response work while setting up a base of operations. We are now accepting volunteers and expect to have sites running through July. As we ramp up Oklahoma Relief Program, we turn to our donors, partners, and volunteers for much-needed support. This work is not possible without the support of people like you!
