01. 99 GANSEVOORT ST. NEW YORK, NY This project is based off of a series of divided, enclosed, and connected spaces. The divisions are informed by the applied system, creating moments of interest and pause. The enclosures are informed by the folds, breaks, and separations of the system to meet programmatic needs. Levels of enclosure and openness in these spaces caters to the need for a distinction between public and private, and interacts with light in a way that meets the functional requirements of those who inhabit it. Connections are formed by the seamless boundaries of the system within the spaces. This creates a sense of movement and transition vertically and horizontally. Inspired by growth and fragility of plants, this parametric system acts as a catalyst for ever changing light conditions. This space will be for those who come to learn and gain knowledge and enlightenment from the world around them. While inside, one is immersed in the growth of plants and the growth of knowledge. The spaces exist in a poetic relationship between the vertical and horizontal and have light qualities that emulate those of the organism that inspired them.

02. 115 W. JACKSON AVE. KNOXVILLE, TN This project is all about making one aware of the complexities of a site and using it as a model for the qualities that the interior space should possess. The dynamic procession sequence from public to private space creates an experience that is interesting for both those who work there and for visitors. This space is further inspired by the transformation of fibers into fabric on a loom. It is intended to draw visitors in, around, and through much like weaving. There are spots of interest that emulate an irregular pattern that would appear on an original piece of woven fabric. As the space progresses vertically it gradually becomes more private. This is related to the knit of the fabric, becoming tighter as one moves up. It was designed for a local fiber artist who enjoys taking things that are usually discarded and making them into unique pieces of art. She uses a lot of recycled and natural materials and does her work on a loom. She requested storage space and space for organization of her materials and tools as well as a thought provoking work area.

The use of recycled material in this project was very important. The client had a strong affinity for utilizing materials that would ordinarily be discarded or over looked. To satisfy this preference the display system of movable screens was made with both up-cycled paper and plastic. This system provides a barrier between spaces as well as serving as a racking system for the clients goods and clothing pieces.

03. 227 W. DEPOT STREET KNOXVILLE, TN The intention of this project is to create a space where students can go to interact with one another in their free time. It will be a versatile environment that has the ability to meet the needs of groups, couples, and individu- als. There is a clear division of public and private spaces and it provides social spaces for large groups as well as intimate space for a smaller crowd. The furniture, fixtures, and equip- ment are made of repurposed and less expensive materials to tie the idea of affordability into the design. It serves as a unique community center for locals as well as the local college population and provides a versatile space that everyone can enjoy.
