THURSDAY March 16, 2017, Burlington Livestock Exchange, Burlington, CO -- 1pm
WELCOMETo our annual bull sale We chose Simmental because it is the breed which crosses best on the predominantly Angus commercial cow base of the central plains. We understood though, they must be moderate in frame. Moderation and calving ease are important to us along with cattle that are structurally correct so they can travel on the large ranges of the central plains area. This year we are bringing you the very best group of bulls we have ever raised. The two-year-old bulls are not hold overs from last year, nor were they unsold bulls from last years sale. They were leased out to area cattlemen for their use last summer. They have been tested for Trich and rechecked for fertility and will be ready to go. They will breed a lot of cows this summer! Along with the coming 2-year-old bulls, the 18-month group is a very solid, stout group of bulls. They were weaned in March of 2015, developed moderately on feed until August. From August until November they were on grass then brought in to be put on feed to get them ready to sell. They too, will service many cows for you this spring and summer. They will add performance to your calves and if you need replacements their daughters will be the kind to do well in this region. Finally, in the yearling bulls you will find an impressive group. We used J BAR J Night Ride on our Buford Bluestem daughters intentionally to produce a SimAngusTM calving ease bull. We are confident they can be used on Angus cross heifers. The CCR Cowboy Cut x W951 embryos are a very complete consistent set. Whether your program is a terminal one or one that retains females they will work very well. The MR NLC Avenue sons are very complete, we are calving our first group of daughters, they are not disappointing us. This is the first group of bulls we will sell out of Hooks Boulevard. We continue to use Boulevard on heifers without any problems. Along with his calving ease you will like how the cattle develop. The next step will be the daughters and we cannot wait for that. The bulls are available to be viewed at the ranch anytime. They will be moved to the Burlington Livestock Exchange Tuesday, March 14. We appreciate your business and wish for you to choose the bulls that are right for your program. We would love to help you do that!
Thanks for coming, Brett, Sally & robbie Parker Reed and Abi Parker
Reed & Abi were married in June of 2016
Robbie and fiance Austin will marry in July of 2017 “Brett, Sally, and Reed Parker have carefully selected the genetics for their bulls and heifers. The phenotype and performance of these cattle is very important to them. Each year, the Parkers try to improve their program and this year I got to be a part of that evolution. I am proud to do the nutrition work for Parker Cattle Co and hope that you like how the cattle look on sale day! If you have any questions about the nutrition program that the cattle were on, please feel free to reach out to me. Dr. Kelcey Swyers www.grasslandnutrition.com kelcey@grasslandnutrition.com Owner/Private Nutritionist Grassland Nutrition Consulting

ABOUT THE BULLS We feel developing the bulls modestly leads to bulls that will last. All the bulls are fed a high forage ration designed for them to gain 3lb. per day. The 18 month old bulls were weaned last March and then put on a feed test for 120 days. In September, the bulls were allowed to graze until November. They are sound and ready to do a lot of work this spring and summer. The yearling bulls were weaned in October. Modest development to gain 3lb. per day. These bulls will do more than this. There is no reason these bulls cannot continue to work until they are 8 or 9 years old. BREEDING GUARANTEE All bulls will be semen evaluated and pass a breeding soundness exam prior to the sale. Bulls bringing above $3500.00 will be guaranteed for the first breeding season. The breeding season is defined as 90 days following bull turn out. Injuries following that period will not be covered. Should a bull be injured, Parker Cattle Company needs to be contacted immediately following the injury and be examine by our Veterinarian. The purchase price will be refunded to the buyer minus the salvage value or that amount will be allowed as a credit towards the purchase of another bull at the next future sale. All claims must be made by September 15th. Customers who opt to have their bulls fed at our ranch following the sale are encouraged to purchase insurance. Insurance will be available for purchase sale day. We do recommend insuring your bulls purchase through the first breeding season. FEEDING AND DELIVERY All bulls will be available to be picked up the day of the sale. 18 month old bulls can be cared for until April 1. Yearling bulls will be cared for but will be fed and cared for until April 15. We are more than happy to assist in delivery of all bulls. SEMEN INTEREST Parker Cattle Co. will retain 1/3 semen and revenue sharing interest on all bulls selling. If Parker Cattle Co. chooses to collect a bull, it will be done at the buyer’s convenience and our cost.

This spring marks “Avenue’s” third calf crop and his progeny have done exactly what we predictedmoderate at birth and quick to put on the pounds. His sons quickly sort themselves to the top of the pen and even better; with Ave’s first females in productionthey are proving to make excellent momma cows as well. Avenue is a step in the right direction if you want to increase pounds at weaning, add eye appeal, substance & predictability to your calf crop and retain females for the future. Contact Parker Cattle Co. for semen.

Our donor dam, W951, is potentially the best Dual Focus daughter in the breed. Her phenotype is second to none. Combined with her proven maternal history, it’s hard not to be impressed with her productive track record. Take a look at her consistent, uniform set of sons and you will see why we think so highly of her.

This bull is straight up humbling. He has the good feet, soft joints, swagger walking, come get you some look. Incredibly enough he comes out of his chest floor with the right shape and boldness to his fore and mid rib. We haven’t even begun to mention how stout and powerful he is! Y’all can read his numbers…he is herd sire material.

Hook’s Boulevard was our herd sire selection to increase calving ease and marbling in our herd. We got more than what we bargained for as he turned into an awesome heifer bull that generates progeny with outstanding eye appeal, athleticism and do ability. We are excited to be offering his first bull crop and even more enticed by his heifers in our replacement pen.

We believe so much in Boulevard that we flushed him to our premiere donor cow, W951, and couldn’t be happier with our results. These bulls represent our kind of cattle, they are rugged and masculine, yet attractive and well made for any environment. I wouldn’t be surprised if these flush brothers would generate more growth than what is projected, as they have been tipping the scales in their favor while being the youngest set of flush brothers offered. Full ET brothers to lot 24 sell as lots 25-28

D650 was at the top of Tyler and Cam Fagerhaug’s short list, when they came to drop Avenue off this fall. The U431 cow was one of the very first foundation cows that was purchased as a bred heifer from the Kappes program. Everyone that stops in and sees her are completely blown away by how massive and productive she is made.

Mr NLC Avenue 3088A
If you’re lucky every great bull will out produce himself at least once. D618 is by far the best Avenue son we have produced. True cattlemen will find this bull like a prospector finds gold, it’s just what they are meant to do.

LOT 47
EASTERN COLORADO AND WESTERN KANSAS
offer unique environmental challenges for cattle production. The area can be as hot or, cold as any, along with periods of extreme moisture conditions. Cattle must spend a portion of the year grazing low quality crop residues. Over the last 25 years Black Angus cattle have become the dominant breed of cattle. Heterosis is one of the few low cost management tools to improve pounds produced, heifer fertility and improved carcass quality. Choosing the correct breed to complement Angus takes some research. Of the wide variety of breeds available for crossbreeding Simmental seems to have the best fit. When implementing a crossbreeding program, calving ease has to be the first concern. After that, the decision needs to be made, whether or not to keep the females. We believe moderate framed, deep well-muscled, easy fleshing females are a must. We believe Simmental makes the most sense in a cross breeding program, whether or not you have a terminal program or a maternal program to take advantage of the crossbred female.

The lead off two year old is a full brother to one of Reed’s favorite bulls of last year’s sale; that is doing work for FULL BROTHER TO LOT 54 Jim Dunn of Saint Francis, Kansas. The Cow power represented in this mating is what dreams are made of. He combines the most powerful and productive cow at NLC ranch (Stevie R5267 grand dam of Avenue) along with the R77 and Honey L9 cow owned by Bichlers.

get the most out of your bull purchase by helping you implement an AI program. We have been breeding cattle professionally for over 15 years. Following some basic guidelines can make an AI program a success. Research tells us cows greater than 50 days post-partum have a significantly greater chance to become pregnant than those having calves more recently. Before you begin calving choose the day you wish to begin your breeding season. Count back 50 days and circle that date on the calendar. Those cows who calve before that date will be your first breeding group. Those having calved less than 50 days can have a bull turned with them while group one is being bred. Or, wait three weeks and breed those AI in a second group. This helps your younger calves due to the AI genetics in some of those younger calves. During the busy spring season synchronization is the most practical method. The two shot prostaglandin combined with heat detection results in too many heats being missed. This is why a 7-day CDIR program with timed insemination works best. On day one put CDIRs in along with an injection of GNRH. Seven days later remove the CDIRs and give a prostaglandin injection, we like estrumate. If you wish breed off heat until 72 hours, at this point breed all remaining females. If you wish not to heat detect, begin mass breeding the cows 60 hours after pulling CDIRs. You must pull the bulls 60 days after the AI date. Forty days after pulling bulls, ultrasound your cows. Sell the open cows to save feed. A large percentage, 60-80 %, of your calves will be born in the first 30 days. It is a learning process. Generally, the first year is the worst, but you learn and make improvements. It will be worth it. If interested ask us for help. SUCCESSFUL DEVELOPMENT AND BREEDING OF REPLACEMENT HEIFERS Many are considering additional heifers to breed and sell, some guidelines will help you make this venture a success. Before purchasing the heifers decide when you plan to breed them. Heifers need to be 14 months old to successfully enter an AI program. Buy heifers which are of above average quality, not all heifers born are destined to become a cow, the buyers will appreciate you for this. Nutrition is a must. Heifers need to be developed but not over developed to become fat. Over conditioned heifers can be as much of a problem as under conditioned heifers. Develop them so they are in a BCS of 5-6 but not more. All vaccinations need to have been given at least 30 days prior to breeding. If you breed them AI, use quality semen from a proven bull. Buy your semen directly from a distributor, not from another producer [you do not know if it has been handled properly]. We have quality semen available from ABS-Global and Allied Genetic Resources. If you need your heifers bred, we can do it. It is possible to breed them outside the corral. It all takes planning and commitment. The days you are breeding the heifers, it does need to be the most important thing you do that day. Cutting corners only leads to poor results. We can also breed your heifers at our ranch. So give us a call! You will find an AI program can reduce bull power and assure you get the calves you desire. Brett Parker 970-597-0831
