What field of study am I looking for? What kind of industries do I want to work for in the future?
07
ALL-in Eduspace University Preparation Guide Book
As previously mentioned, scholarships play such a crucial role in our educational life. Not to mention, they have a huge effect on our career path. Scholarships can usually be in the form of financial aid or sometimes a summertime internship where the majority of the people usually get hired by the company right after they graduate. Therefore, it is important for you to decide what kind of industry you want to work in before you apply for the scholarship. For example, Goldman and Sachs, a famous global investment banking, securities, and investment management firm, offers scholarships for Business, Engineering, and Finance students that include an offer to work for the company when they graduate. From this example, someone who wants to be a doctor will not apply for scholarships from this company. Therefore, deciding what you want to be or the kind of industry you want to work in later is important in deciding which scholarship you will apply for.

Who are the available providers? 09
ALL-in Eduspace University Preparation Guide Book
In this era, education is one of the keys to improving human resources. Therefore, many companies, organizations, and foundations dedicate a part of their development to providing scholarships. These scholarships range from limited to specific universities, majors, or even countries. There are many available providers, such as the British Council, which has a scholarship for women in STEM, the Tanoto Foundation, which provides scholarships for those majoring in accounting, business management, and other management-related majors, or for engineering courses you can apply to JTC, BCA, URA, or HDB.
Due to the wide variety of scholarships, websites and apps sometimes allow students to filter these scholarships according to their needs, or major, host countries, and nationality. For instance in Singapore, you can use Brightsparks to narrow down your list and introduce you to some of the scholarship providers in the country, or for universities in the USA you can also use College Board’s Scholarship Search to find the most suitable scholarship for you.

WHY SHOULD I APPLY TO THIS ORGANIZATION? 13
ALL-in Eduspace University Preparation Guide Book
Scholarship providers range from some that are not pronounced to renowned organizing bodies such as Google, Microsoft, Coca Cola, Dell, etc. Different organizing bodies will have different advantages and scholarship grants.
Scholarships aren’t only beneficial for financial support. Some scholarships are also important for networking, especially building networks in the organization that provides the scholarship. For instance, The Generation Google Scholarships given by Google would introduce you to the work ethics of Google, and it might land you a promising job after graduating.
Therefore it is vital to know the scholarship organizers to find one that aligns with your needs. You can read through the official announcement and reviews from previous recipients to know the benefits of the scholarship and what to expect when receiving the scholarship. Other than that, you can also search for the scholarship organizer’s goal and decide on which organizer can catalyze your growth the most.

ARE THERE ANY TERMS AND CONDITIONS?
All universities and platforms that provide scholarships definitely have specific requirements that must be met to get the scholarship. Some scholarships require students to take minimum credit hours and keep their GPA in their minimum GPA requirement. Usually, the minimum GPA that must be met is 3.2 out of 4.0. If the scholarship comes from an organization, students are sometimes required to work for a certain period with the organization after graduating.
15
ALL-in Eduspace University Preparation Guide Book
Some countries like Singapore, for example, require students to work in state-owned companies for a certain period upon graduation to receive a scholarship. So the amount of their scholarship will be considered as a debt, and they will have to pay it off by working, which will definitely be deducted from their salary. Other government-funded scholarships from other countries, such as The Chevening Scholarships from the UK or LPDP from Indonesia, require the awardee to return to their respective countries soon after graduating.
The most important thing to remember is that if you break the scholarships agreement, you can be ordered to pay for the monetary losses incurred by the provider, causing a bad reputation on your name, and the worst thing is that you might be banned from traveling to the country where you studied. Therefore, you need to make sure you understand the terms and conditions of each scholarship that you apply to.

WILL I GET ANY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES? 17
ALL-in Eduspace University Preparation Guide Book
Not all scholarships are in the form of financial aid. For example, a Work Placement scholarship is a scholarship that focuses on work experience and skills development. Usually, it will take place during your term break. This type of scholarship is generally offered by companies with extensive connections with universities as part of a graduate recruitment program.
A graduate recruitment program is where employers undertake an organized program of attracting and hiring students who will graduate from university. This program will help employers to identify the potential of their new employees. For instance, students taking an aeronautical engineering degree at the University of Glasgow will have a chance to collaborate with BAE Systems on an actual aircraft project.
18

However, there will be a selection to choose the eligible students to join the program. The scholarship program provides part-time jobs or internships. It usually takes place during your term break. Usually, you will be chosen by the university whether you are eligible or not to join the work placement scholarship. Still, you need to keep in mind that you need to register yourself first and submit all the required documents.
19

Even when you can't receive financial aid, you can try to join a summer internship at a big company, which could give you a couple of benefits. You will not only get paid by the company, but you will also gain both job and research experience that will boost your resume. This is very important for your personal skills development and also your future prospects. You will also have a bigger chance of getting hired by the company as they usually recruit interns who have a good performance during their internships. And lastly, you may be able to get a mentor who can help you achieve your career goals.
20
#TakeOnYourFuture #itsALLintheprep
HOW MUCH IS THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED? There are so many benefits provided by scholarship providers, which of course, have different requirements. Usually, you will have to face more complex requirements to receive more benefits from scholarships or have bigger obligations once you graduate. However, keep in mind that most universities do not provide full scholarships to international students, so you still have to pay a deposit or other expenses.
21
ALL-in Eduspace University Preparation Guide Book
For example, International students from Indonesia who get a full scholarship worth 600,000 HKD for 4 years of study in Hong Kong must pay a deposit of 10,000 HKD, and even though they have received a full scholarship, international students still have to remember that they need to pay for the living cost.
So, it is vital to do your own research on how much your chosen scholarship provider is willing to offer and if they come in the form of installments or bulk payments.

CAN I APPLY FOR MULTIPLE SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS?
23
ALL-in Eduspace University Preparation Guide Book
As long as the scholarship allows you to apply to other scholarships and grants, there’s no limit to how many you may apply to.
There are a lot of scholarships offered by various providers. Some cover the tuition fees or even other expenses such as travel, health insurance, and living costs, a lot of these scholarships cover only a part of your tuition fee. Therefore, this kind of scholarship allows you to apply to multiple grants or scholarships. For example, at NYU, you can apply to the university scholarship while also applying for private scholarships for NYU students.
However, this does not apply to every scholarship. Some may not permit you to apply to multiple scholarships, and some may even prevent you from doing sideline activities. This is due to their framework or purpose behind the scholarship initiative. So check beforehand whether the organizer would allow you to apply to other applications elsewhere.

WHEN SHOULD I APPLY? Students often get confused about when is the best time to apply for a scholarship. Some might think that it's best to apply as soon as they see an offer. This might be good for some, but it is better to consider other scholarships first. Most scholarship providers offer undergraduate and midterm scholarships, and some provide those who have been doing their undergraduate studies for two years.
25
ALL-in Eduspace University Preparation Guide Book
Thus, it is for you to decide which one is best. As mentioned before, not all scholarships cover academic fees. Some may provide work placement, which is why it is best to plan before applying, so you can decide on which scholarship suits your needs best while not being rushed.

DO I REALLY NEED THE SCHOLARSHIP? 27
ALL-in Eduspace University Preparation Guide Book
Before applying for a scholarship, ask yourself this:
Do I really need this scholarship, or am I just following the crowd? Many factors can influence your decision to apply for a scholarship, one of those being peer pressure. Other people’s decisions shouldn’t affect you on deciding for yourself. Blindly following others can lead to many negative consequences, especially when the scholarship that your friends are applying to may not be suitable for the career pathway you wanted or does not suit your needs. Some scholarships also have agreements that may not suit your academic or career plan. So, always make sure that the scholarships support you, not burden you. Therefore, it is crucial to question this in advance to make sure you are making the best decision. You need to check thoroughly whether the scholarships you are applying for match your needs: what you are willing to take and give, and how they will benefit you in the future.
