A little bit about me. I grew up in Mammoth Lakes, California, which provided me with a great appreciation for nature and a deep love for the outdoors, as you will see referenced throughout my portfolio. My career in art began with nature photography as I was surrounded by beautiful landscapes. This passion eventually led me to college where I thought I would major in photography. However, when I took my first art class in college I discovered a new love and passion that paired so well with photography, Graphic Design. Although I had never picked up a pencil to draw until my first art class, I learned quickly and have been creating ever since. As a designer I strive for perfection in everything that I create, however as an artist I know my work is never finished or perfected, as I would like it to be. I am always growing in my craft and skills and will continue to push for perfection hoping to someday reach it. I chose to create my portfolio, as a magazine with editions because I know this is just the beginning in a long body of work, the first edition. I named my portfolio assemble because it is a compilation of all my proudest work up until this point in my career that I have created and assembled here for your viewing. I am equally passionate about Graphic Design and Photography and I love pairing them together as you will see throughout my portfolio.

02 THE HISTORY OF THE RISE OF BOURBON
Deliverable: Magazine Spreads, Poster, and Video Catergory: Information Design Creative Director: Min Choi The goal of this project was to understand data and then create an infographic displaying the findings in a manner that is easy to understand and is visually pleasing to the viewer. I studied the factors in which bourbon has risen to the number one grossing liquor in America. Social factors, cultural changes, and pop culture were studied to see how sales are affected. In order to fully understand the patterns of liquor sales I studied Bourbon through historical books. I then compared the sales of different liquors within the last few years; lastly magazine articles about the current state of the bourbon market were analyzed. I then turned data findings into graphic models and visual graphs. The result of this project was a Poster highlighting the information, a six page magazine article giving a more in depth understanding and visual model of the information, and a short video displaying the information in movement. The colors mostly used were shades of brown to highlight the caramel brown colors in whiskey. The font used was Bernier, a rustic font that had a distressed look that emphasized the longtime process of whiskey, which sits in barrels. I continued with the distressed look throughout the different spreads giving everything a texture, keeping the layout cohesive.

03 A MODERN TYPE SPECIMEN BOOK
Deliverable: Font Foundry Book Catergory: Print layout, Typography Creative Director: Beth Weeks This book was designed to be a modern day font foundry resource. Fonts from the different families are displayed along with an essay about typography. The designer takes inspiration from the narrative and creates a theme. This book is inspired by a quote from the essay, Since Then, by Milton Glaser. In the essay he says, “The role of art is to inform and delight. The book is meant to inform the reader about font styles and delight the viewer through design and imagery. The focus of the book is the different letters and fonts. Only the body copy remains the same in a Sans Serif called Helvetica, the rest of the copy features different fonts throughout the chapters highlighting the letterforms. The photos are all my own and they are meant to reinforce the idea that art informs and delights. Just as designers use visuals to express their ideas, the visuals are meant to draw the viewer to the text and reinforce the description.

04 BIRDROCK EATERY RESTAURANT
Deliverable: Branding Material, menu, business card, coasters, website Catergory: Brand Design Creative Director: Min Choi Birdrock eatery is a neighborhood restaurant that uses only the freshest and in season ingredients. This restaurant encompasses the farm to table idea. The slogan is to stay local and eat fresh. This is a seasonal restaurant where the menu items change with the growing season so all ingredients can be fresh and found in the area. The restaurant is targeted to all ages of people who want to eat healthy and prefer to local ingredients. The audience would be more environmentally conscientious and willing to pay a little more for a meal that benefits the environment and themselves. The design for the eatery is meant to be fun and light to stick with the fresh theme. The menu, business cards, coasters, promotional displays, and email blasts were created to brand the restaurant. In addition I took photos of the restaurant, food, and promotional items to display the design in a real life setting. A serif and a sans serif are used for the design to bring a slightly elegant touch with the modern font as well as a fresh look with the new sans serif, emphasizing the restaurant’s premise. The main colors chosen were a bright yellow and a navy blue again emphasizing a contrast between fresh and elegant. The icon chosen was a vector drawn bird to highlight the playful tone of the restaurant.

05 GYPSEAS CLOTHING BRAND
Deliverable: Patterns, Clothing, Marketing Material, App Catergory: Pattern Design, Branding Creative Director: Min Choi Gypseas was created to be a surf style-clothing brand for women who enjoy the beach lifestyle. The brand consists of dresses, t-shirts, bikinis, hats, and bags. The main objective for the brand was to create patterns for clothing. The patterns were first made by watercolor on paper; they were then scanned into the computer and made into seamless patterns in Illustrator. The brand is oriented toward young active women. Ocean blues, coral reds, and leaf greens were chosen to fit the tropical patterns created. All the patterns were hand made to give the product a unique style.

06 VIRTUAL REALITY SKYDIVING
Deliverable: Branding Material, Helmet, Wingsuit, and Website Catergory: Branding Creative Director: Gary Benzel Tunnel Vision is a virtual reality sky diving business that allows a person in an indoor sky diving facility to experience what it would really be like to skydive without the risk of jumping out of a real plane. The virtual reality goggles are placed on the front of the helmet and the viewer sees exactly what a real skydiver would see. The client needed a full branding system as well as a responsive website and promotional gear and apparel. My goal was to create a logo that embodied the adventurousness of skydiving, but that could in the future be used for a more expansive audience in the virtual reality field. Teenagers to Adventurous businessmen would be the target audience for the product. I chose to implement different shades of red for the brand identity. Red is an adventurous color and draws people to it. Red would also stand out in a crowd or on a shelf. The logo is comprised of V shapes that form into an abstract tunnel. I used darker shades on the outside V and made the shade lighter towards the middle creating a tunnel effect to emphasize the name. I chose not to be too literal in my design so that the client could expand their brand to other virtual reality markets.

07 THE VOYAGER OLD FASHIONED
Deliverable: Packaged old fashioned drink Catergory: Packaging Creative Director: Gary Benzel The Old Fashioned is credited as being the first cocktail invented. This simple drink made up of whiskey, bitters, and sugar is still just as popular today as when it was invented. One of the main draws to the Old Fashioned is that it makes the whiskey smoother but it does not lose its flavor in the process. The Voyager Old Fashioned was created to highlight the different flavor profiles of the whiskey. With varieties of whiskey from three different countries the consumer is able to get an understanding of the different flavor profiles while being able to drink a smooth cocktail. The three different countries that the whiskey came from, Scotland, Ireland, and Japan, inspired the design. Each country has distinct textiles, patterns, and art. These rich heritages were referenced and implemented in the making of the brand. Each individual bottle and package contains a pattern specific to its region along with a specific animal icon and color.
