If you love music, this course is for you! We’ll delve into the styles of music that defined the time periods and the development of music over the last 2000 years from the prehistoric to the 20th Century. Walk away with a greater appreciation of some of the outstanding composers and styles of music that have shaped our history including but not limited to Jazz, Big Band, and Broadway as the 20th Century types of music.

Beginning Band

Learn to play your favorite wind instrument (flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, baritone) in a fun, inclusive setting. Build skills, learn music theory, and get ready to play in a community ensemble! Perfect for any entry level adult musician! Please bring your own instrument.

Ukulele Basics

Explore music with the small, but mighty, ukulele. The course will cover a lot of ground--starting with holding and tuning the instrument and will touch on beginning note-reading, chord-strumming, and learning simple songs. Discover the joy of the instrument’s simplicity while uncovering the surprising depth of capability it possesses. Come and join us on the musical journey-wherever you currently may be. Welcome students 16+.

Violin Basics I

If you have always wanted to play the violin, but just don’t know where to start, this course is for you. We will cover basic information about the instrument, as well as the tools you will need to play common tunes and pop songs with confidence. Better than that, though, you will learn how to practice the instrument effectively, so that you can keep learning and improving your skills for years to come.

BREATHING NEW!

Join us for a refreshing, holistic, playful outdoor group experience. Let’s breathe and meditate together, practicing finding inner calm, relaxation and self awareness while being in nature, present in the moment. Using all our senses, breathing and meditation exercises, we will experiment ways to connect with nature. Commitment to group and regular participation encouraged. Bring water, weather proof clothes, mat/ plastic or portable chair to sit in. Class happening in any type of weather. Phones (distractions) will be turned off. Meet in BC-105.

The Art Of Tarot

PERCUSSION: MUSIC & RHYTHM

Permission granted! Come create music and rhythm in ensemble in this fun and engaging percussion course. Students will also develop listening skills while practicing the nuances of rhythmic patterns and melodies. A variety of percussion instruments will be used and any level of musical experience is welcome. Some instruments provided and you are encouraged to bring your own.

From the oldest known surviving set of 15th century tarocchi cards to hundreds of modern artistic interpretations, tarot cards have held fascination and fantasy for over six centuries. This course will explore the origins of the tarot deck, its journey to occult status, its place in art history, and the rise of tarot popularity into the 21st century.

Dreaming For Creativity

Dreams are the basis for much of folklore and the stories woven through science fiction and fantasy. Through the lens of Jungian psychology and its application in popular entertainment, we’ll explore the meaning of dreams by recognizing archetypes and the power of the collective unconscious in creativity and expression.
