Publisher’s Letter...

Welcome! W

e have all learned the hard way that in life one can not have too many expectations and yet, I have to say that the all-out enthusiasm for the first issue of All One Era magazine was so colossal, it way exceeded all of my expectations. OMG! We are printing more copies by public demand! We received terrific feedback and an avalanche of compliments from so many gifted individuals and companies eager to share their energies with the elect r i c v i b r a ti o n s tha t we a r e all collectively exuding.

Spiritual teacher and author Marianne Williamson accepts a copy of the All One Era manuscript from Stephen Cipes on stage at the Kelowna Community Theatre on October 1, 2015. “ From me to you with love...” said Stephen as he handed her a signed copy and immediately Marianne said the book has a high vibration and that she couldn’t wait to read it. Photo credit: Kim Mayberry

Then, the icing on the cake: Marianne Williamson unexpectedly comes for lunch to Summerhill Winery in our organic bistro before her presentation at the Kelowna Theatre. She takes one look at the magazine and tells me in person, “Stephen, thank you for doing this work. Thank you so much… there are many out there who are on the same wave length now and you are taking it to the next step by creating a forum for the grand teachings which is so urgently needed!” I joined her on stage at the Kelowna Community Theatre later that evening and presented her with my book and she repeated again that the magazine is a fabulous new vehicle and thanked me and hugged me! This month, I have also been thrilled, honoured, and so fortunate to meet and video an interview with Dr. David Suzuki, our world esteemed scientist hero. This iconic, masterful, “come from the heart” genius has created a sweeping grassroots movement called the Blue Dot movement, urging municipalities to sign on and declare our right to clean land, air, and water… which goes hand in hand with our grassroots movement to catapult the All One Era around the world and locally, and to realize the 2020 Vision to convert the entire Okanagan Valley to organic growing practices!

David’s awesome Blue Dot (Earth, the pale blue dot seen from Mars) grassroots movement event was also the setting for the signing of the 2020 Vision Declaration to convert the Okanagan to organic by the year 2020. This declaration, which was set forth in the last issue (and can be seen at www.alloneeramag.com) received over 300 signatures at the Blue Dot event and

www.alloneeramag.com

now we have way over a thousand signatures including Dr. David Suzuki’s and that of two city mayors, the Penticton Indian Band Chief, Jonathan Kruger; Okanagan Indian Band Chief, Byron Louis; and, Grand Chief of the Okanagan North Alliance, Stewart Phillip. We received hundreds of signatures from the attendees at the Okanagan Water Forum. We are off to a flying start! As if that were not thrilling enough, we are further blessed to bring you an article about Maytawee, a loving holy nun-monk who has been in Thailand, and who recently moved to Kelowna, BC. In this issue, she speaks about healing, and one item in particular: the Ajna Light Machine used in the Brainwave Wellness work she does. This machine was created by a former monk that worked for Steve Jobs at Apple, and it incorporates the closest simulation to the sun’s rays as has ever been produced by man. A miracle healing tool. Maytawee, who has become a close, cherished friend and mentor to me, was interviewed by editor-in-chief, Teena Clipston. There is also a very interesting look at Spiritual Rebel, Russell Brand. And, of course, the second chapter of my book, which I hope you will all thoroughly enjoy! A huge Happy Birthday wish goes out to Louise Hay, who just turned 89, and is as strong as ever… congratulations and forever gratitude for your inspirational work Louise, OMG! Plus lots more! With love and blessings and excitement for our wondrous new beginnings together, Steve Cipes Founder, All One Era Founder / Proprietor, Summerhill Pyramid Organic Winery and Bistro stephen@alloneera.com

The All-One-Era Manuscript, Chapter 2 The Time is NOW for Love By Stephen Cipes

I

t was exactly 3:18 a.m. when I sat up and slipped into lotus position to behold the details of one of the most significant dreams of my life. I re member it well. It was March, 2013, and I was in Osaka, Japan with my wife Rie and our daughter Esther, who was three at the time. We were visiting Ojijan (Grandpa) and Obajan (Grandma) for the first time, and we had just enjoyed seven glorious weeks touring the many beautiful shrines and temples of the country. We were staying in a sixth floor suite located in the heart of Osaka when I experienced the dream. The setting of my vision was so real, so lucid, that I felt as though I was fully awake. I was standing alone, surveying farreaching and deeply impacting worldly destruction and chaos. I stood simultaneously within entire cities cleared out by the worst storm in recorded history (which actually happened thereafter in the Philippines). Simultaneously, an enormous volcanic eruption had just taken place in Iceland, where I could see vast amounts of carbon spreading across the land. This was more carbon than our entire population could produce in hundreds of years, and this also came to pass. I watched the shrinking of the ozone layer and disappearance of the condors (later confirmed by "formal decree" by The Hopi Elders). I observed with utter sadness, the sharp rise of cancers in animals and humans following the devastating effects of constant spewing of radioactivity from the Fukushima nuclear power plant meltdown. I saw and felt devastation from vast amounts of radiation on plant life and contamination of agriculture from the acid rain. I watched the bees and butterflies be the first species to deeply suffer the brutality of huge chemical and biological altering of nature at the greedy chemical farming companies' hands. I stood at the heart of the Amazon rain forest, hearing the planet struggle to breathe as the greed of corporations tore down the trees to create soy bean and corn fields to feed cattle. I heard the cries of tortured whales, dolphins, elephants, and rare plants and animal species that were so rapidly becoming extinct. I was aghast at the overwhelming nature of the human drama, so centered in fear and the perceived need for material status. As I witnessed the vividness of suc h travesty and destruction, from seemingly out of nowhere came an airplane, landing on a dime right before me. Emerging from the plane was a female person of such glorious beauty. Her face was a composite of all the most magnificent female human faces I have ever had the privilege and honor of knowing, and her energy was one of indescribable total purity and love. This radiant entity proceeded to reach out her hand and so lovingly touch the land before me, gifting visible magical healing energy upon every being, every circumstance, every plant and animal. I got a glimpse of

Page 6

Moses and Jochebed by Pedro AmĂŠrico, 1884. her unlimited love, and in that moment it transformed the entire meaning of the word love. I'm unable to fathom, much less articulate, just what she did, who she touched, or how she did it, but what she did was all encompassing and all Divine, a total and complete rejuvenation of everything back to teeming life! At the same time, I was shocked to behold her hand shrivelling as she swept it across the earth! I reached out to help her, but she signaled me a loving gesture that her hand was a small sacrifice for such a gain. She then leaned forward and told me not to worry, as there would surely be a way to reform her hand later. We enjoyed a loving, reassuring embrace and acknowledgement that indeed everything in the world is wondrous and perfect in every way. She hopped back on her little plane and took off, without a runway or rolling start. She simply disappeared as quickly as she had appeared, leaving me awestruck.

The Diva from the skies left a forever impression on my soul. I knew I had been blessed with the rarest of honors. I had beheld the angelic face of glorious, pure, cosmic love. She had literally given her hand, and she had taken the time to talk to me and instill the message that She is always here. With her hand extended out for all time, She IS us and graces us with eternal unconditional love. For the two hours that followed the dream, I sat in deep meditation. During my reflection, I felt an overwhelming feeling of blessedness to have been visited by God; to have been with an entity so loving that She gave her hand to heal the world, while radiantly shining with love so deep there wasn't a trace of concern about her self. As I stood in her presence in the dream, I felt as though I was one with God like never before. There was no distinction between us. She came to me to show that She could perform miracles, and to show

www.alloneeramag.com

that so, too, can we. I realized that we are spiritual fifth-dimensional beings having a human experience. We are each able to be God because we are God, each and every one of us. To come to this realization is to free ourselves from our three-dimensional world of drama, fear, destruction, and illusion. I fully realized that to remove ourselves from that which we think we are, is to bring home the truth and soul memory of whom we really are. This dream lives in me now. It gives me strength and courage to set forth an outline for the catapulting of the era where humanity is beginning to open to receiving this ever present loving universal consciousness (LUC) that She so magnificently portrayed. The All-One-Era is the blessing of blessings we have been waiting for with open arms. I recently had a most incredible ah-ha moment I would like to share. It was Easter Sunday evening 2014, during my regular daily practice of sun gazing, which is looking directly at the sun for the last half-hour before sunset or for the first half hour at sunrise. Standing on the beach in bare feet in a trance state of glorious oneness with all there is, my soul merged with eternity and was exalted to heights of total bliss, harmony, and all Knowingness. My body became a timeless vessel filled with exuberance and joy. In that state, I gained immense clarity and perspective. I flashed upon the Five Books of Moses, which constitutes Judaism's Bible known as the Old Testament or The Torah. Moses led the Jewish people out of Egypt, where they had been kept for centuries as slaves. The story is recounted in the Exodus, where the sea parts and the Hebrew people flee to safety before closing the sea and drowning the Pharaohs' advancing army. You may be familiar with the story of how Miriam placed her precious baby brother in a basket and sent him drifting down the Nile, knowing he would soon be found by one of the Pharaoh's wives who were bathing downstream. It was the Pharaoh's daughter Batya, which means daughter of God in Hebrew, who named the baby Moshe (Moses), which in Hebrew means, drawn forth or bring in from the water. We go on to know the wondrous story of how Moses became a member of the Pharaohs' family and grew up in the palace, where he was taught the mysteries of this fully enlightened and highly skilled ancient civilization that dwelled in Egypt for eons. They were the elongated-skulled entities that were one with the sun (RA!) and all of creation. They felt their eternal connection to Spirit they knew they were God! The All One Era is our blessed return to receiving the ever-present loving universal consciousness. This consciousness catapults us into fifth dimensional oneness with all there is. We now Know we ARE God, co-creating in every moment. Moses grew up knowing this allpowerful wisdom. He knew what it was to (Continued on page 24)

S

tephen Cipes: I would like to present you with my book. It is called the All-One-Era. It would be a great privilege and honor if you could take a copy. I wrote an inscription there just after your wonderful talk today.

And it goes on, and the actual quote is beautiful because it sums it up perfectly.

“The

Environmental movement has failed. We’ve won some pyrrhic battles but we lost the war because we failed to change consciousness surrounding these issues.

It has your great quote in there.

Dr. David Suzuki: Exactly.

(Reading from the book) How come the movie An Inconvenient Truth by US vicepresident Al Gore didn’t have an impact? It was there for all to see and what did the world do? They held world summits and committed to lower the carbon footprint using economic sanctions. And did they lower it? No! It was a joke. As Dr. David Suzuki pointed out, the politicians that voted to lower it are not now in office and those who are, are not obligated to adhere to those commitments.

Stephen Cipes: It is the consciousness that is the most important thing. If it doesn’t come from something you are doing now with this grassroots movement [Blue Dot]… it is so beautiful. I congratulate you on that.

October Moon 2015

Dr. David Suzuki: I am very proud of it. Stephen Cipes: It is wonderful. Dr. David Suzuki: It’s going gangbusters.

Stephen Cipes: You just gave a great speech here to all the First Nations about how you already have over seven million Canadians signed up. Dr. David Suzuki: Well, their municipalities have signed up. So we get the city council to pass a declaration to help the environment. And they in those cities are a total of seven million. Stephen Cipes: Beautiful. Can you give us a little synopsis of the Blue Dot? Dr. David Suzuki: So the idea is that the Blue Dot is this tiny, tiny sphere in the universe. We’re insignificant. That was the point of Carl Sagan’s essay, that when you get to the edge of the solar system and look back, we’re just 1/6 of one pixel in the whole picture. We are nothing. And yet, in that tiny dot all of human history took place. All of the billions and billions of people, who have loved and worked

www.alloneeramag.com

hard, who fought and killed and lusted for power, and all of that stuff took place on that insignificant little dot. That’s our only home; it’s our only place in the universe that we have. What we think is we have to deal with each other in a kinder way. And we have to realize that our health and wellbeing depend on a healthy environment which is clean air, clean water, clean food, and clean energy. The problem you know, Stephen, is that most of us in Canada now live in big cities. And in a big city a person’s priority becomes his job. I need a job to make the money to buy the things I want and so the economy seems to be the most important thing in our lives. I have a friend in Toronto, who lives in a highrise apartment in the north end of Toronto, completely air-conditioned. On the week days he goes down the elevator into (Continued on page 8)

Page 7

ALL ONE ERA magazine (Continued from page 7)

the basement into his air-conditioned car, then down the Don Valley freeway into the basement of his commercial building, all air-conditioned, and connected through tunnels to huge shopping areas. He said to me, “David, I don’t have to go outside for weeks,” so if you don’t have to go outside who the hell cares about nature? And that is our problem, is that we are disconnected from the natural world. Stephen Cipes: Yes, it is a wonderful thing that you are bringing that up. I salute you for doing the great work. I walk barefooted in the earth every day, grounding and feeling the magnetic energy of the earth, the electrical energy that surrounds us. We are electrical in nature; we are receivers. As we open up our feminine energy, we men can do it, we can receive and become conduits of spirit, but we first need to get back in touch with nature. Like you said, a large percentage of the world lives in high-rise buildings and in cities. They never touch the ground with their bare feet and they don’t breathe the fresh air. They are stifled and they are out of touch with nature, which is our very essence. Most of all, it brings us back to our hearts. When we are in touch with nature, we automatically say and feel the right things and we no longer tolerate the destruction that we see in every state, and no longer buy into it. We stop giving away our power, so to speak. Dr. David Suzuki: You know Richard Louv? Stephen Cipes: I have heard his name, yes. Dr. David Suzuki: He wrote The Last Child in the Woods. And he says there are a suite of problems with young people – attention deficit disorder, bullying, hyper activity – that all comprise what he calls ‘nature deficit disorder’. Take these kids out into the nature, and all these issues disappear. We need to get out and make contact with nature. Stephen Cipes: Absolutely. I am a member of the Robert Bateman board of directors and I have been doing that for the last seven years now. Introducing children to the wild. It’s a beautiful work along with your beautiful work. Dr. David Suzuki: Yes. Stephen Cipes: I loved that you mentioned Rachel Carson’s book and the impact of herbicides and pesticides have on the environment [at the Okanagan Water Forum]. It’s actually the basis for what I have wanted to do for the last 40 years in the Okanagan Valley. I am putting forth the 2020 Vision Declaration for the entire valley of British Columbia to become 100% organic by the year 2020.

Dr. David Suzuki during the Blue Dot tour in Vancouver, BC in November, 2014. Photo credit: Kris Krüg Stephen Cipes: And I took the declaration to your event, for the Blue Dot, which my son Ezra was managing, and without even reading it in public I got 300 signatures that night. Amazing!

Dr. David Suzuki: Al Gore called for 100% renewable energy in ten years. These are the kind of calls that we need to get off of the drunken destructive path that we are on.

Dr. David Suzuki: That is great!

Stephen Cipes: This is the call to action… [reads declaration]

Stephen Cipes: Because everyone who is signing the Blue Dot also wants to see everything return to natural. We want nature to prevail, not money. Money is not our God. This is the beautiful thing. One of the most important things I had to prove was that my own organic winery, Summerhill, could be economically feasible, you know sustainable, before I could say let’s everybody be organic. Because then they will turn around and say, ‘Steve, we don’t have millions of dollars to do that,’ but now I can make that statement, that we are financially stable, and we are 100% organic. We are winning awards around the world, we are the most visited winery in all the world, and all that stuff. So, wow, it’s a great boon. Dr. David Suzuki: It is a great boon. But it is crazy that you have to prove doing something that improves your health and the health of the environment, somehow has to be economically possible strikes me as crazy.

Dr. David Suzuki: I just heard it, when you announced it. I was electrified, Stephen.

Stephen Cipes: Crazy. Could I get your signature on this petition [the 2020 Vision Declaration]?

Stephen Cipes: Thank you so much.

Dr. David Suzuki: Absolutely.

Dr. David Suzuki: No, that’s what we need, the kind of target. Then we can all work together. And it is an uplifting target.

Stephen Cipes: Thank you so much. [Dr. David Suzuki signs the 2020 Vision Declaration] That is awesome. That’s beautiful.

Page 8

We agree with this declaration, by signing below, agree: - To share the 2020 vision with our friends and family - To grow, buy, and consume local organic - To ask where our food and beverages come from and how they’re grown - To consider transitioning our lawns to gardens, and to xeriscape our properties - To urge all commercial chemical farming owners to consider the future for all our children and their children’s sake Dr. David Suzuki: Absolutely. Stephen Cipes: It is that simple. And the beautiful thing is that the Okanagan can be a model for the world, and it is the easiest place to grow organic because we have the least amount of pests here. Dr. David Suzuki: But you know, an entire country is organic, and that is Bhutan. They are an amazing country. Stephen Cipes: Bhutan. They are, yes. Wow. Dr. David Suzuki: Now, they can do it because they are a small country. Really isolated in that the Himalayan Mountains surround them but the big thing is, as you know, the story of the king when he was at a meeting in India, and he was asked by

www.alloneeramag.com

the press, “What about your GNP?” He said, “We don’t pay attention to GNP. It’s GNH, Gross National Happiness. That’s the goal.” Stephen Cipes: The right to a healthy environment. Clean air, water, food, and a say in decisions that affect the environment… It seems like a simple straightforward request based on good old common sense, and yet we have to fight for it. Who are we fighting against? Dr. David Suzuki: Every interest that doesn’t have to pay the price for what it does. So the fossil fuel industry will fight it because right now they use the atmosphere as if it is free. They use the rivers, and the land as a garbage dump and they don’t pay for that, so they don’t want to face up to the fact that there is a cost to that, a health cost. Every logging company that wants to clear cut, rather than log properly is going to fight it, and everybody that wants to use a river to exploit it in a way that is unsustainable. You know, you would think a healthy environment that’s a mom and apple pie issue, but the vested interests see it through very narrow lenses. I talked about the CEO of the oil company that came to see me. When he left, he couldn’t agree with what I said even though I said, “Look, I think you know this is a foundation of how we can live.” He could not agree with me because how could he go back to his shareholders and say, “I agree with Suzuki. We can’t do anything to screw up the air, the water, and the soil.” Well, he would get fired in a minute. So there would be a lot of vested interest that will fight this.

October Moon 2015

ALL ONE ERA magazine Stephen Cipes: Once again, world leaders will meet to discuss greenhouse gas emission targets and climate change, this time in Paris at the Climate Change Conference on November 30? Do you think anything new will come out of this meeting? Dr. David Suzuki: I think there is a chance. I was very pessimistic. I talked to the French ambassador of Canada and I said, “Look, 20 meetings like this that have already gone on. Are you just going to be the 21st? Another failure? Or will you signal the 20 meetings have achieved nothing and you are going to have to do something different.” When he left I thought, not a chance he is going to. But two things happened I never imagined: one was the United States and China saying we’ve got to take it seriously. That is fantastic.

Dr. David Suzuki: I think it is, and this is why I have spent so much time with First Nations. They still have a profound spiritual connection to the Earth. Stephen Cipes: …because they are one with the Earth, because they are one with nature, and one with themselves. Dr. David Suzuki: But what is weird, Stephen, is throughout time again, each generation has hoped to leave a better world for our children. And you know for sure that children growing up in a highrise are not going to have a chance at the kind of world we know. What the hell has happened? We have become so short-sighted that we want to get more money to buy a bigger car, a bigger house, dadadada… and we are forgetting what we are leaving for our children.

Stephen Cipes: That is fantastic. Dr. David Suzuki: The other thing is that the Pope—I am an atheist, but man, this guy is beautiful. I have read his encyclical several times. It makes me cry every time. Because he has done something very few of us do, you know. He has taken hunger and poverty, issues of social justice, First Nations, the environment, and they are all put together. It’s about how we live together, and it is wrapped in a sense of morality, a moral obligation. And those two things, China and the United States getting together and the Pope, could potentially change the whole deal. Stephen Cipes: I love it. Thank you so much for that. Canada has submitted its Climate Change Action Plan ahead of the Paris meeting. The Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) submission reveals Canada intends to achieve an economy-wide target to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% below 2005 levels by 2030. How does Canada intend to do this? Dr. David Suzuki: We don’t intend to do it. Mr. Harper doesn’t intend to do it. And Mr. Harper, you know, he already gifted the bassline from 1990 to 2005, which allowed for that much increase of greenhouse gases. Have you ever heard climate change pass his lips? Stephen Cipes: Not really. Dr. David Suzuki: No. And it’s interesting the contrast of Obama who went to Alaska, the oil producing state, and said, we’ve got to do something about global warming. And Mr. Harper, who went to the Arctic for five days and never once mentioned climate change. So as long as we have a Harper government, forget about climate change. He is not going to do anything. This is not a serious plan and it’s a joke. We are a laughing stock for the rest of the world. Stephen Cipes: You wrote in The Sacred Balance, there are seven essential items that human beings need to live: earth, air, fire, water, biodiversity, love, and spirituality. Do you think human beings have become disconnected with their spirituality? If so, is this one of the core reasons that has led people away from nature and caring for the environment?

October Moon 2015

Stephen Cipes: We fought to get rid of number 6 fuel in New York City because it was choking the babies, and we got it down to number 2 fuel. We fought to keep our waters clean and yet Long Island Sound had all the fish jump out. They had a Jubilee, and it’s dead now. I am so worried about Okanagan Lake. Dr. David Suzuki: Yes. Stephen Cipes: If it could happen in salt water, it could happen to this lake. Dr. David Suzuki: Oh, absolutely. Stephen Cipes: And this lake has an 80year turnover. It’s one of the slowest in the world. It only turns over every 80 years, and the amounts of chemicals we are putting into it from the orchards and the vineyards is frightening. Not to mention the sewage treatment plants, and all those things… so I am really happy that you have signed this agreement [the 2020 Vision Declaration], and that we have two beautiful grassroots movements going: your wonderful Blue Dot and perhaps this All-One-Era, where we can come from our hearts. This is what we need to do. Back to our hearts, stop giving away our power. It’s not working. Dr. David Suzuki: I think all over the world there are bits and pieces of things going on. The problem right now is that we have governments who are really working to a corporate agenda, because corporations have a vast amount of money to sponsor politicians. But I think that grassroots movement and all of these things going on have got to cause it to flip. Stephen Cipes: Thank you so much. Thank you for doing your great work. Dr. David Suzuki: Thank you for all of the support you have given us. Stephen Cipes: You ain’t seen nothing yet. *** This conversation has been edited for print. Top Ten Modern Spiritual Authors By Jessica Kir by

T

he world is a busy place. Family responsibilities, financial obligations, world affairs, and our internal need for balance can swirl about in a whirlwind of chaos, drawing us further from inner peace than we were ever intended to stray. It is no wonder spiritual literature is one of the fastest growing genres of this decade, with 4ew Age / Spiritual titles hitting the ew York Times Best Sellers list year over year. Born as a genre in the 70s, the self-help revolution has brought millions of people from the brink of sadness and hopelessness into a brighter tomorrow filled with joy, self-love, and passion for life. Whether on the path to enlightenment, seeking a deeper mind-body connection, or in search of alternative ways to deal with stress and illness, people have before them a vast library of literature, poetry, and audiovisual materials from which to draw. Though narrowing the list to a mere ten seems an impossible task, the following authors have been particularly adept at bringing forth their message and touching lives the world over.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama A tireless advocate for peace, spiritual leader of a country in turmoil, and Nobel Peace laureate, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, Tenzin Gyatso, tops the list of influential spiritual writers for so many reasons. He has authored more than 70 books, most of them best sellers, and all of them focused on combinations of personal enlightenment, Buddhist principles, science and reason, and the search for happiness. This happiness, he says, is the meaning of our lives. His Holiness the Dalai Lama draws millions to his talks and teachings around the world. Although trained a Buddhist monk, he acknowledges the advantage of spiritual belief of any kind over being void of spirituality in general. He seeks to bring the world together, create harmony and happiness, and never stops dreaming of one day returning to his homeland, Tibet. The Art of Happiness, The Four .oble Truths, and Beyond Religion: Ethics for a Whole World stand out as some of his most influential works.

Dr. Wayne W. Dyer Author, speaker, and affectionately called the Father of Motivation by his fans, Dr. Dyer empowered millions with his inspiring message that anyone can live an extraordinary life and manifest their deepest desires if they honor their inner divinity and consciously choose to live from their higher self. Dr. Dyer published more than 30 books on the subject, appeared on thousands of TV and radio programs, while travelling extensively to share his message. He broke into the scene in 1976 with Your Erroneous Zones – one of the highest selling books of all time at 35 million copies – and published best seller I Can See Clearly .ow in 2014 a year before his death.

Louise L. Hay Louise Hay was talking about the mind-body connection back in the 70s when it was radical to do so, earning her a place in spiritual history as one of the founders of the self-help movement. Dubbed Queen of the New Age, Hay has earned her stripes as an author, yes, but also as a philanthropist, teacher, speaker, and by founding Hay House publishing company, which gives a voice to spiritual authors the world over. Hay’s first publication, Heal Your Body, was first published in 1976, purporting the message that with the right state of mind you can heal just about anything your body or brain throws at you. She has published more than 15 works, accompanying CDs and DVDs, a movie, and a broadcast radio program. Her

How you feel about it is another matter,” said Neale Donald Walsch in his .ew York Times best-seller Conversations with God: An uncommon dialogue, Volume 1. At one of the darkest times in his life, Walsch took pen to paper in an angry outburst with God, and says God answered him. He wrote three volume of these conversations and each went on to best-selling fame, earning Walsch the moniker, Modern Day Spiritual Messenger. Over the years he published 16 books in total, all focused in some way on humanity’s relationship with God, the lovefear continuum, and the notion that we are all one with God. The quote above is an example of the way Walsch’s work en-

Dr. Deepak Chopra The Third Jesus, Quantum Healing, Life After Death, and The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga are just a few of the 65 books Deepak Chopra includes in his list of literary accomplishments, making him a household name in spiritual well-being. Chopra specializes in a multidisciplinary philosophical approach that combines spirituality, Ayurveda, and holistic healing to bring forth a contemporary mixed offering of ancient wisdom and modern science. Nineteen of his volumes have made best sellers lists, and 20 million copies have been sold worldwide. The .ew York Times has called him a controversial, New Age guru, though Chopra rejects the term “guru” at all costs. He does, however, advocate for a strong and effective mind-body connection when dealing with health and wellness, and the primacy of consciousness over matter. (Happy birthday October 22, Deepak!)

Eckhart Tolle If there is one essential key for reducing anxiety, stress, and unhappiness it is to live in the present, and no one has made that message clearer than Eckhart Tolle. Once a depressed recluse, Tolle experienced total transformation at age 29 and is now a world-renowned author and speaker the .ew York Times calls the most popular spiritual speaker in America. Tolle’s message is that to be emotionally and spiritually free, we must live completely in the moment. His first book The Power of .ow introduced Tolle’s simple, easy to digest approach to this centuries-old concept and made it accessible to millions of readers searching for a happier sense of being. Tolle’s work combines essential tenets from Christianity, Zen, Buddhism, Sufism, and Hinduism. The Power of .ow has been translated into 33 languages, including Arabic, and the follow up A .ew Earth: Awakening to your Life’s Purpose, was also wildly successful around the world. “To die before you die and find that there is no death,” said Tolle. That is the secret to life.

Marianne Williamson Even if you haven’t heard of Marianne Williamson, you’ve likely heard her famous quotation often misattributed to Nelson Mandela, which begins, “Our deepest fear is not that we are in adequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” Williamson’s career as an internationally acclaimed spiritual author and lecturer has skyrocketed with four of her 10 published works hitting the number one spot on the .ew York Times Best Sellers list. Williamson’s 1992 book, A Return to Love, was her interpretation of Dr. Helen Schucman’s book A Course in Miracles. She brings enlightened, graceful encouragement to develop a relationship with God that may or may not rest with Christianity, and encourages an overall path based on universal spiritual themes. Williamson was named one of the 50 most influential baby boomers in 2006, founded Project Angel Food, which delivers meals to homebound individuals, and is a cofounder of The Peace Alliance—a grassroots movement to have the US government establish a US Department of Peace. Gary Zukav Gary Zukav has influenced millions of people with his straightforward, lively approach to teaching the pathway to transforming human consciousness. His main works The Dancing Wu Li Masters: An Overview of the .ew Physics, and The Seat of the Soul, guide readers as they open their minds and hearts in progress toward expanded consciousness and awareness of their true selves. Zukav’s four best sellers brought scientific legitimacy to matters of the soul (though that wasn’t his goal, claiming the soul is legitimate on its own terms) and gave countless people the courage to shift their consciousness to a better place Dancing Wu Li Masters received as much attention and acclaim from the scien-

Thich 4hat Hanh Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, teacher, author, poet, and peace activist, is revered as a spiritual leader, poet, author, and peace activist, known the world over for his engaging teachings and best-selling books on mindfulness, being in the now, and generating peace. “Through mindfulness,” he says, “we can learn to live happily in the present moment—the only way to truly develop peace, both in one’s self and in the world.” Thich Nhat Hanh has over 100 titles to his name, as he has dedicated his life to spreading the joy of meditation, mindfulness, and “engaged Buddhism,” a term he coined in Vietnam: Lotus in a Sea of Fire, through books, poetry, children’s books, and interpretive reviews of ancient Buddhist texts. Some of his main works include Being Peace, The Miracle of Mindfulness, Peace is Every Step, and The Art of Power. Iyanla Vanzant Iyanla means “Great Mother” and is the title Iyanla Vanzant received after being initiated and ordained as a priestess in the Yoruba tradition. Well known for her talk show, “Iyanla, Fix My Life,” and lengthy book list, Iyanla’s focus is affirmation, spiritual healing, and confident lifebuilding, particularly for an empowered, faith-infused global community. The Big Book of Faith, Yesterday, I Cried: Celebrating the Lessons of Living and Loving, and Peace from Broken Pieces: How to Get Through What You’re Going Through are just a few of her titles that have touched lives and promoted healing and the inner journey. ouise Hay has broken through social and spiritual boundaries to found the greatest movement humankind has witnessed in the past century—the evolution and acceptance of self-love, selfhelp, and spiritual awakening. In the 70s, Hay released her best-selling book Heal Your Body in an era where the mind-body connection was still a fledgling concept in the West. Over the years, Hay has manifested happiness, healing, and spiritual health, inspiring millions of people to create more of what they want in their lives. Perhaps her passion and reach were born in Louise’s own humble and tormented upbringing. She was born October 8, 1926 in Los Angeles, California and raised through an unstable childhood wrought with abuse, poverty, and chaos. She worked as a model in the 40s and mar-

ried a prominent businessman in 1955. The marriage dissolved 14 years later, but this is when Louise’s own healing journey began. She began training as a minister at the Church of Religious Science in 1970 and was soon a popular speaker and counsellor. Heal Your Body was her first publication— a pamphlet outlining the mental causes of physical ailments, and how to develop positive thought patterns to reverse ailments and cause good physical health. Her full-time career took off and she began travelling the US with her message and inspiration. Heal Your Body was revised and expanded in the late 80s, translated into 25 different languages, and devoured by people in 33 countries. In the 80s, Hay responded to a deeper calling to help others by founding the Hay Foundation, a non-profit that encourages and financially supports a number of organizations focused on supplying food, shelter, counselling, hospice care, and financial assistance to people in need.

The 80s were a decade of great accomplishment for Hay. She published You Can Heal Your Life and started her famous support group The Hayride, in support of HIV/AIDS patients and their families. Hay House publishing company was born in 1988 and in 1990, You Can Heal Your Life became a .ew York Times best seller, later going on to sell over 35 million copies. In the early 2000s, Hay House opened offices in, Australia, Canada, England, and South Africa, and Hay House radio broadcasted its first episode in 2005. Over the next decade, Hay published several titles including I Can Do It: How to Use Affirmations to Change Your Life, Experience Your Good .ow, Colours & .umbers, Modern Day Miracles, Love Your Body, You Can Create an Exceptional Life, and You Can Trust your Life. She was dubbed The Queen of the New Age in a 2008 article by The .ew York Times, and won the Minerva Award for women role models, leaders, and visionaries that same year. One year later she released her film: You Can Heal Your Life: The Movie and launched a selfpublishing imprint Balboa Press. Just two years ago, the inaugural Hay House World Summit shared Louise’s and other Grand Teachers’ lessons to more than two million people worldwide, and Louise’s Meditation Affirmation app was released and reached 100,000 people in just nine months. More important than her brick and mortar accomplishments, Louise Hay has touched millions upon millions of lives, inspiring self-love and love for others, personal victory, spiritual prowess, and the confidence to achieve mind-bodyspirit connection. She has brought support and guidance to the suffering, given spiritual authors a forum from which to launch their careers, and created a passionate, wholesome sense of connection throughout the world that resonates with humankind’s deepest spiritual instincts. This October 8, Louise Hay turned 89 years old. “Treasure each year of your life,” she said just days before her birthday. “I choose to see my life moving in different directions, all of them equally good. Some things are even better now than the way they were in my youth. My younger years were filled with fear; my todays are filled with confidence … I want to help you create a conscious idea of your later years, to help you realize that these can be the most rewarding years of your life. Know that your future is always bright, no matter what your age. See your later years becoming your treasure years.” We at All One Era magazine would like to extend Louise Hay our deepest gratitude for her years of service to and support of the world’s spiritual beauty and wish her a very happy birthday with many more to come. ourself, then with nature and the world. This is Dhamma life.

I

f there is one thing I am stubborn about, it is going to the doctor or hospital. I am not fond of pharmaceuticals, and I believe sometimes they cause more harm than good. I also believe no one knows my body better than me. I am sure my stubbornness stems from a history of bad experiences with practitioners in my own life and bearing witness to the medical system failing for others. In particular, my mom, who died of cancer… or I should say, died of chemotherapy. I know those are bold words, and I am not going to get into a debate about it. It is just how I feel. For the most part, I have learned to heal myself when need be. Armed with a cabinet full of colloidal silver, oregano oil, tea tree oil, herbs, and other natural items, I am my own doctor. In fact, just the other day I was feeling under the weather, and I called out to my daughter to, “make me some medicine.” Not knowing my specific ailment she asked, “What kind?” Making medicine in my house is part of our life. “Grapefruit juice, honey, and turmeric,” I called out, and then added, “and better give me a spoon of bee pollen, too.” Homeopathy and Herbal medicine are familiar to me, but there are so many other types of healing I am not familiar with, like Reiki, Acupuncture, Aromatherapy, and others I am just now learning about. I had the pleasure of interviewing Maytawee, a healing coach, who has practised with Eckhart Tolle and who studied the Buddha’s Dahamma in Thailand with the revered Master Mond Prah Bhasakorn. Maytawee offers some alternative methods of healing I have never heard of before. These healing methods include, Fast Track Release Sessions, Brainwave Wellness, Mandala Movement, and Buddha Within Meditation. Maytawee shares workshops, classes, and inspirational talks where the profound question, “Who Am I?” is offered for discovery. Teena: What can you tell me about the different types of healing you perform? Maytawee: Brainwave Wellness helps build neuropathways that are limited by trauma, accidents, and stress. White flickering lights, from the Ajna Light Machine, repair damaged pathways, awakening the pineal gland by bringing the body/mind back to balance from harmony with the whole Self. This is an amazing machine that was built by Guy Harriman, a former monk that had worked with Steve Jobs. Fast Track Release is a subconscious programming that is cleared thro ugh co nscio us co mmunica tio n by releasing old limiting patterns that prevent you from living your natural way of being. This fast-paced world requires fast healing. Mandala Movement allows music to inspire your body to move through an 11layer inner journey that guides you to discover your natural Self in motion. Investigate freedom in the body while releasing stress and mental noise. And Buddha Within Meditation is a guided group session to discover inner balance through short meditations,

Page 12

Teena: How does this knowledge help with your healing classes? Maytawee: Before studying as a monk-nun I worked with my ministry teaching other masters to deepen the wisdom of mind/ego and human patterning of pain and pleasure. When we awaken within ourselves to wisdom that is over 5,000 years old, something powerful happens to all that we do. It becomes profound guided by grace and the world can not explain the perfection. It can only be felt. Teena: In regards to your journey of selfdiscovery, what put you on this path? Maytawee: I had no intention of selfdiscovery; it just happened. I feel that something greater than myself became a guiding force and brought me to places and people that started to open up the awareness within me to discover the Self. The authentic Self. Teena: Was there a major shift in your life?

Maytawee Photo credit: maytawee.ca group sharing, and learning awareness tools. This open-form group helps discover ego patterning that limits us from living our natural joy. Teena: What kind of illnesses are people looking to heal? Maytawee: The most common is stress and depression. I work with youth with ADHD, mental illness, sleep issues, anxiety, fears, and just about anything. I have been working with illnesses of the body/ mind for the past 25 years. Teena: Are these healing techniques successful? Can you give us some examples? Maytawee: Yes! I have seen thousands of c l ie nts . A yo u ng ni ne - ye a r - o l d girl “Zoe” came to me for Fast Track and Ajna Light sessions. Her grandmother shared of Zoe’s traumatic childhood and how her nervousness and pain has made her pick at her skin, peeling it layer by layer until it was bleeding. She has tried everything to help her with little to no success as well as not sleeping. With just two sessions Zoe stopped picking her skin. She is sleeping and feeling joy for the first time saying, “I have never felt this way since I was a baby.” Zoe’s family are now regular clients. I also had a woman come to me with deep depression and not able to sleep. Fast Track released these locked feelings right away for her to feel joy again. All the modalities are felt right away and cleared. Ninety-eight per cent of the clients feel some profound shift after working with me. Teena: Which method is the most popular? Maytawee: Combining Ajna light and Fast Track are the most popular.

Teena: In regards to you living in Thailand to study the Buddha’s Dhamma, what exactly is the Buddha’s Dhamma? Maytawee: I have studied since 2010 in northern Thailand in a jungle temple, spending one year in silence without speaking. During that time, I deepened my conscious awareness and grew to know the ego/mind patterning. I also developed my healing modalities to more profound given results. The Buddha's Dhamma is everything. Buddha is the start of present here and now, and Dhamma is life. All things that we see and touch is the Dhamma. So the Buddha’s Dhamma is to be awakened in the here and now to all things going on within us and outside of us. When we are in this state a natural peace comes and we feel connected in a vibration of oneness. Teena: How did you connect with Master Monk Prah Bhasakorn? Maytawee: In 2010, a friend invited me to meet him at his temple. She said he would not take anyone on as a student unless he had karma with them, and that we had spent other life times together. And so I sat at his feet listening to him talk. He asked me questions and before I knew it I was invited to stay and study with him. He shared that in another life time I was his teacher and that I have come back now with him as my teacher. We had lived together in a temple as monks in another life. Teena: What is the most important message you received from the Master Monk? Maytawee: That we all can live life in nonsuffering. That we are not here to learn; rather, we are here to be. Be our natural Self, sharing in service from the highest infinite wisdom that we know. To live in loving kindness with all things, first with

www.alloneeramag.com

Maytawee: Yes, the world became different. What was important to me, such as having things and power, was not important anymore. It was how I was with others and myself that took my attention. I even choose to travel the world rather than build my career. Teena: Have you always been spiritually connected? Maytawee: Looking back I have always been spiritually connected and did not know it. I feel everyone is spiritually connected or they would not be in human form. There is something greater within each of us that is beyond the human mind and wisdom. It is an intelligence that allows us to intuitively know life and how to be in life. All that is required is that we get still within and in that stillness we find something sweet and tender that is filled with infinite wisdom beyond all this. Teena: What is the most important thing taught to you by Eckhart Tolle? Maytawee: That nothing is an emergency. Before I became Eckhart Tolle’s private assistant, I was a manager of a fivestar restaurant and to me at that time, everything was an emergency that had to be handled now and fast. Eckhart gave me the gift to see and create space around all things that felt like an emergency. In doing this, a greater wisdom came in how and what to do that always seemed to transform that into something magical and successful. The panic of rushing as if life is an emergency only brought up stress and choices that held little success. Yet sitting back, observing, reflecting, and listening created something so great that a natural flow happened and harmony was what the day became rather than stress. This is one of a few great wisdom insights I received when with Eckhart. Maytawee can be found in Kelowna at her studio. Visit her website for more information or to book a class. www.maytawee.ca.

10 Mini Meditations to Help You Reset By Melissa Eisler

I

f you live in a civilization of any kind, you probably find yourself with space between mome nts and events in your day. And chances are, you’re not always happy when you have to wait in line at the grocery store, stop at a red light, wait for a friend “running just five minutes late,” or stare at a blank screen when your computer freezes. Chances are, these are the times when your mind runs wild with incessant chatter. Instead of letting your mind take over, try using those in-between moments for a mini meditation. Take advantage of those moments that would otherwise be categorized as wasted time – where you would normally check your phone or follow your thoughts into the depths – and practise mindfulness, instead. Janice Mauritano, founder and executive director of the Institute for Mindful Leadership and former vice-president at General Mills Inc., calls these “purposeful pauses.” These are short (like one- to three-minute) pauses throughout your day to remind yourself to be mindful. And they’re incredibly effective. Mauritano wrote in a Huffington Post article, “You can bring your [mindfulness] training into everyday moments without adding any more demands on your already too-packed schedule.” She continued, “These purposeful pauses allow you to step off the daily treadmill and perhaps find some spaciousness in the day to make more conscious choices." And the best news? You can practise them anytime, anywhere. Try incorporating these 10 short bursts of meditation into your day. Next time you find yourself … … Waiting in line, scan your body and notice anywhere you may be holding tension or experiencing sensations. Make no judgments; just become aware of your body. Even if the woman ahead of you is arguing with the cashier over a 25-cent coupon, use that extra moment to practise mindfulness instead of impatience. … Walking to your car or from meeting to meeting, stay present. Resist grabbing your phone or planning your next conversation and focus on the movements as you walk, how your feet feel as you move, and make eye contact and smile at everyone you pass. … Waiting for a friend who’s running late, close your eyes and notice any feelings or thoughts of impatience. Then take five slow, deep breaths, focusing on the expansive nature of your inhales, and the release that comes with each exhale. … Driving in traffic, turn off the radio and experience the stillness fully. Tune into all of the details around you from behind the wheel.

… Waiting for a computer that’s frozen or rebooting, close your eyes and do a body scan to discover where you might be holding tension. Bring your attention to one body part at a time and observe any sensations; send breath into any areas of tension and tightness. … Waiting for an elevator, bring your attention to your posture and see if you can find more length in your spine and more openness in your heart and chest. Inhale the crown of your head to the sky and lift your shoulders up to your ears—and then as you exhale, relax your shoulders back and down, creating a taller, more confident stance. Do this three times. … Having trouble waking up, set a conscious intention for the day. Before you get out of bed, take a few slow, deep breaths and choose a few words you’d like to embody for the day ahead. … At the gas pump or waiting for the bus, close your eyes and bring your attention to your breath as it moves in and out through the nose—notice the cool air move through your nasal passageways and the warm air leave your nostrils. Take in any observations about your surroundings through your sense of smell. … Between tasks, meetings, calls, or classes, close your eyes and take 10 slow, deep breaths through your nose, taking a brief pause at the top of every inhale and at the bottom of every exhale. … Feeling stressed, as soon as you feel stress begin to rise inside of you, take five deep cleansing breaths—inhaling deeply through the nose, pausing for a count of five at the top, and audibly exhaling through the mouth. Try these tricks to calm any restless, frazzled feelings from those moments that might otherwise be unwelcome or wasted space in your day. When you practise creating focus throughout your day, it takes the edge off of everyday stress and that sense of focus persists much longer than the mini meditation. Melissa is a yoga and meditation teacher, as well as a content strategist and writer. She created Mindful Minutes to bridge her two worlds, and offer practical, relatable anecdotes and tips on how to bring mindfulness into the busy lives of the digital age. Her intention is to share what she’s learned, and continues to learn, about overcoming her own challenges with meditation, mindfulness, and life balance while maintaining a challenging schedule and career. The Spiritual Rebel By Teena Clips ton

hen I first think of one who is spiritually awakened I think of a quiet, soft-spoke n, pe aceful person who has only kindness and love to share. Certainly, these are the character attributes I hold in my mind when I think about how I should conduct myself while working on my own evolution into a better me… But do these attributes fit with everyone’s personality? Do they fit with my personality? Do we all need to be Dalai Lamas and Mother Teresas to be spiritual? Or can we be spiritually attuned in our own unique way? Does this unique ness make us Spiritual Rebels? This opens another question. What does it exactly mean to be spiritually awakened? I look to one of my favorite modern authors on spirituality for answers. Deepak Chopra explains, “The awakening simply means that you are not living in a dream world anymore. The normal world is the dream world, where you’re thinking of the future, past, everything is filtered through your ego and you know your life goes by. It’s a dream. When you start awakening to this in waking, dreaming, and sleeping you move into higher states of consciousness. Most people will go through a lifetime in three states of consciousness: waking, dreaming, and sleeping, and then they’re dead. But then there’s a fourth domain of consciousness, which is the soul, which is called soul consciousness. This, in many wisdom traditions, is called cosmic consciousness. Cosmic consciousness because now you are living in two worlds: physical and subtle on this side of the fence and on that side of the fence, the formless void.” If I could summarize this simply in my own words, I would say spiritual awakening is knowing you are more than skin and bone, and you are part of the universal god oneness. Let me say that again, we are part of a universal god oneness. We are not below it, we are not above it… we are it! This knowledge has been forgotten, and that is why we now call this the process of awakening. We are starting to remember our greatness. This time has been prophesized by the seventh century Mayan prophet, Pacal the Great. According to Pacal, at the end of a 26,000-year cycle (Mayan Calendar), human consciousness will begin transforming. Many others have also spoke of this great cycle, including the Hopi, the Egyptians, the Navajo, the Cherokee, and others… you may have heard this time being called The Time of Great Purification or The Shift of the Ages. Like most changes, especially one of such magnitude, it is not without turmoil. The shift will be easy for some, and almost impossible for others to understand. Author Bruce Davis, PhD, in his Huffington Post article, “Life After a Spiritual Awakening,” said, “More and more people are coming forward and sharing their very

personal experience of discovering a spiritual world beyond their dreams, beyond what they could have ever imagined. Meanwhile, the divide today between believers and doubters of a spiritual reality is greater than ever.” There have always been great spiritual teachers. I believe we have always looked at these people as being special in some way or different from us. The evidence is clearly broadcasted in our worship of these people throughout the different religions that developed as a result of their messages. Confucius, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad certainly influenced the world with their words. Perhaps they were the original Spiritual Rebels. They certainly stirred things up a bit, didn’t they? In a quest to see what that might look like, I came across an article on six ways to b e a sp iri tua l r eb e l ( w w w. m e an in g f u ll if e . c o m /s p ir it u a l/ soul/6_Ways_to_Be_a_Spiritual_Rebel.php)

Here is a summary of the six points: • Think outside the box • Don’t conform • Be creative and proactive • Be humble and invest in effort • Find your soul’s natural resonance and state of pleasure • Get to know the original spiritual rebels I have decided to write a series of articles on the modern spiritual rebel to show that these newly awakened individuals come in all types of personalities. They don’t always fit the mold of what one would consider a spiritual being, however, all of them share the knowledge of great spiritual teachers of the past. A Brand new way of being Spiritual By Teena Clips ton

e all don’t start out awake… some of us grow up lost…. really lost.

I choose Russell Brand as the first Spiritual Rebel in this series as I believe his story can bring hope to others who are suffering with emptiness, addiction, and the feeling of confusion. Russell Brand is known as a successful actor / comedian, but also known for his destructive past as a heroin addict and for his brief marriage to Katy Perry. He has had major roles in movies such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, and in the 2011 remake of the romantic comedy Arthur. Brand has become known as an activist, launching a political-comedy web series called “The Trews,” and a book called Revolution. He has also authored two memoirs. Recently, Prospect magazine voted Brand the fourth-most influential thinker in the world. If someone would have told Brand 10 or 15 years ago he would be considered the fourth-most influential thinker in the world, I am sure he would have had a smashing laugh. Born Russell Edward Brand in Essex, England, Brand had a difficult childhood. His father left his mother when he was just a baby, and so he was raised an only child by a single mom. He was sexually abused by a tutor when he was seven, and at the age of eight, his mother contracted uterine cancer and then breast cancer leaving him with extended family while she was hospitalized. He then became bulimic in his early teens. Certainly not a glamorous Hollywood upbringing, and it gets worse. His relationship with his father was sporadic, and strange, as Brand describes his father taking him on trips to Thailand to

All of this would later lead to a promiscuous lifestyle, with heavy drinking and drug use. spiritual. The tale of his addictions and hardships revealed in Brand’s best-selling memoir, My Booky Wooky. “Ever since the first couple of times I'd smoked it in my early 20s, I had always maintained a great interest in heroin,” he says in the memoir. “I'd sort of fallen in love with the warmth of it—the way it felt

LSD does a bit, especially when all the things that are familiar to you peel away and you suddenly realize the fragility of how you normally see the world. constantly for a decade). Alcohol makes you sick and gives you a headache. Crack is like inhaling plastic, but so brief and flimsy and brittle as a high. Normal cocaine just makes you nervous, amphetamines are even worse, and ecstasy never really agreed with me. But heroin gets the job done. “All of us, I think, have a vague idea that we're missing something. Some say that thing is God; that all the longing we feel – be it for a lover, or a football team, or a drug – is merely an inappropriate substitute for the longing we're supposed to feel for God, for oneness, for truth. And what heroin does really successfully is objectify that need.” Brand continues… “Once I started hanging out with homeless people in the West End, scoring heroin with them, I realized that there's this secret culture of people going up and down Oxford Street, whistling and yelping to each other in a kind of tropical slang—men on BMX bikes delivering £10 bags of heroin to be purchased with grubby fists full of 50p and 10p and 2p coins, West Indian housewife-type women perambulating past Topshop, cheeks wedged with packets of smack. “You don't see this bustling underworld until you need to. There have been occasions, thrilling to me, when I went off to score, cutting a purposeful stride down past Tottenham Court Road tube station in the company of three or four homeless people, their sleeping bags worn about their shoulders, like the cloaks of Roman legionaries. I must have cut a ridiculous figure, dressed in my MTV-presenter attire – skintight white jeans, graffitied tops, Ray-Ban sunglasses – jostling along with them, as they set off in search of a bag in Covent Garden. “Until recently, when I gratefully gave up public transport, I would see people I'd scored drugs with begging in tube stations. There was one bloke – I don't know if he's still around – whose eyes were missing. First he lost his wife, then his house, then his shoes, then his eyes; heroin is a greedy drug, robbing you by increment first of your clothing, then of your skin; when it finally comes for your life it must be a relief.” So how does Brand go from raging junky to the fourth-most influential thinker in the world? Brand entered rehab on December 13, 2002, and has been clean since. He has publicly shared his transformation from a place of self-destruction to spiritual awareness, lending importance to the practice of Transcendental Meditation as a contributing factor in his transformation. “Every year’s a landmark for me,” says Brand. “Every December 13, I remember waking up in my flat having been up all night on crack and heroin, missing my train, and then fare-dodging and being picked up by the founder of drug and alcohol charity Focus 12, him giving me a cuddle, and then going into treatment.” Brand is an ideal example of how anyone can change their life, no matter how far from oneself one is living. He gives hope for anyone living with addiction, and shows we all have the potential to get our lives on track and be loved. Brand, a strong believer in Transcendental Meditation, claims it to have trans-

Brand on daily prayer In an interview with David Kamp in Vanity Fair, Brand says his me diation is followed by a daily prayer of these five things:

Gratitude: “Thank you for not selecting me to be in the hell that is a lot of people’s lives. Thank you for all the amazing people—very traditional stuff.” Courage: “Help me make decisions for the right reasons.”

Healing: “That, every interaction I have, people will come away from me feeling better for having dealt with me, not going ‘Fucking hell, you’re a cunt!’ In De Profundis, Oscar Wilde’s letter from Reading Gaol to his former lover and ultimate nemesis, Lord Alfred Douglas, he wrote that perhaps the idea of Christ the Healer was simply: He made you feel better. It makes me cry every time I think about it.”

Signs: “I ask for signs. God, communicate with me. Speak to me through signs—through synchronicity and coincidence and symmetry.”

To be in alignment with God’s will: “To not live egotistically from my base desires and fears, but to be a projection of higher values.” Russell Brand at the People's Assembly Against Austerity in 2014 that attracted an estimated 50,000 people marching from the BBC office to Westminster. Brand addressed the crowd, saying, "The people of this building [the House of Commons] generally speaking do not represent us, they represent their friends in big business. It's time for us to take back our power. Power isn't there, it is here, within us. The revolution that's required isn't a revolution of radical ideas, but the implementation of ideas we already have." - Wikipedia. Photo Credit: DB Young formed his life and he believes this is the clear choice to healing addiction and finding oneself. He says drugs, fame celebrity, consumerism, wealth, and all of these types of things pledge happiness and deliver little substance, but through Transcendental Meditation he has found a deeper state of happiness—a happiness that is profound and absolute, that contains a tremendous sense of oneness, a beautiful serenity. “I felt loved. Love for myself and everybody else,” said Brand at the Operati o n Wa r r i or We ll ne s s la unc h. www.operationwarriorwellness.org/ Transcendental Meditation, considered one of the more general types of meditation, is practiced by millions of people around the world. The practice includes the individual sitting quietly with closed eyes repeating a mantra of one’s choice. The sound Om is a common mantra, as its sound vibration helps clear the mind. Fast forward to 2012 when the Dalai Lama selected Brand to host the Buddhist leader’s youth event. Representatives explained his selection to host the event was based on the fact that he had proved that the power of spirituality effected change in

his own life. “The world is changing and we are awakening. These statistics give us a numerical glimpse at the visceral dissatisfaction that most of us feel. Now is the time to express it. These corrupt structures cannot be maintained without our compliance. You could vote against them, if there was anything to vote for, but there isn’t, or you could stop paying your mortgage, stop paying your taxes, stop buying stuff you don’t need. When we, the majority, unite and demonstrate our new intention, we will be invincible. If we, who are complicit by our silence, become active and disobedient. This is a pivotal time in the history of our species. We are transitioning from an ideology that places power and responsibility in the hands of the few to one where we all collectively have power. It is important that we clarify, in a manner accessible to all, which institutions and systems are beneficial and which ones have to go. It is important that we propose ideas and systems that will be advantageous, like the handful in this book, and ensure that they are presented properly. When they are inevitably disparaged by the fearful enemies of

change, we must remain unified and insistent. At this climactic time, we have no choice but change. This book, written by a twerp, with minimal interaction with brilliant thinkers and uncorrupted minds, demonstrates that. Now, what are you going to do about it?” – Russell Brand, 2014 Revolution “We're here on this planet for a temporary time, we should be spending our time—some of our time pursuing leisure and joy, all of our time in a spirit of love; we've ended up somehow in this mad planet where we work all the time, most of us doing jobs that we absolutely deplore, getting up to trudge through some meaningless ritual that doesn't relate to the survival of the planet, that doesn't benefit our community.” – Russell Brand, 2015, “The Trews” Brand continues to share his story and spiritual teaching through speaking engagements, talk shows, interviews, and through his Youtube channel “The Trews.” Without missing a beat, this high energy spiritual rebel cannot be outwitted by the very best of reporters who look to squash his transformation. It’s a Brand new way of being spiritual. Teena Clipston Editor-in-Chief of All One Era magazine Author, Journalist, Designer www.teeenaclipston.com

Review: Marianne Williamson in Kelowna By Tara Chr is tmann Pilling

M

arianne Williamson was invited to give a lecture at the Kelowna Community Theatre on October 1 for an I am Genie Wishes Fullfilled event. I was fortunate, after purchasing VIP tickets to the Marianne Williamson show, to win two personal VIP tickets to meet and greet her! What a gift! For those of you who do not know, Marianne Williamson is an internationally acclaimed spiritual author and lecturer. Six of her eleven published books have been .ew York Times Best Sellers. The theater was full, crowd captivated, and many tears were shed. Like many others in the room, I couldn’t take my eyes off of her as she personified the power of love. Marianne’s message on love was clear… Love is the only thing that is real. “There is only love,” she said. “The problem is that you have forgotten.” Marianne’s lifework and passion in A Course in Miracles has become a foundation in my own life. I include this teaching in a healing circle I am currently hosting through the Choose-Again Society and in my professional offering. A Course in Miracles is a foundational practice in Marianne’s life and work and this was clearly expressed in her presentation.

Your problem is that you don’t believe in love; your problem is that you don’t believe in love only.” Marianne passionately opens her presentation around the cells in our bodies.

“Each cell needs to be with each other,” she said. “This is the natural intelligence of the body. If one cell separates from the rest of the body, the body cannot support healthy function and dis-ease will manifest. This one cell has forgotten who it is—I am love, there is only love. This separation is fear. A separation from love, from God.” Marianne’s message was full of passion and grace as she encouraged others to be a conduit of Love, of God, encouraging the audience to ask, “How can I serve? How can I become a servant of love in my life and to this world”? When we align with spirit and an intention to love we live a spiritually abundant life. When you give yourself wholeheartedly to love, love wholeheartedly gives itself back to you. How does it get any better than this? With so much love and gratitude, I would like to thank Marianne Williamson and I am Genie’s Joshua Dawson for the experience of a life time. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles

Global Oneness Day: An “Earth Day” for an Awakened World Sixth Year of Global Celebrations By Humanity’s Team

Iyanla Vanzant

A

vital moment is upon us. On October 24, 2015, Humanity's Team (HT) and many partners worldwide participated in the sixth annual Global Oneness Day, a public service day to celebrate our Oneness with all life. 4ow in its sixth year, Global Oneness Day is more critical than ever. People across the Earth continue in the false idea that we are disconnected from each other. With worldwide challenges such as earthquake recovery, the plight of refugees, and the suffering caused by human trafficking and slavery throughout the globe, it is vital for all of humanity to embrace our Oneness and harness the power we have to come together to heal our planet. The celebration of Global Oneness Da y brings hope, reminding us that we are all connected. On October 24, 2015 and during that week, tens of thousands of people around the world participated in a 12-hour online conversation with the world’s activists and spiritual leaders to discuss the nature of our Oneness and the responsibility we have for each other. Through community events such as concerts, special church services, outreach projects, drum circles, and performances, humanity’s Oneness took center stage. With Pope Francis’ recent visit to the United States galvanizing the conversation about Oneness, to the messages of spiritual teachers across the Earth all reminding us of our responsibility to each other, there is hope. Pope Francis, in his encyclical, urgently appealed for dialogue concerning migrants, the poor, nature, and the Earth and described these challenges as essentially spiritual problems. The concept of our Oneness with all of creation is not a new idea. In South Africa, the word Ubuntu has ancient origins. Now, Ubuntu has formally become part of South Africa’s constitution. It means, “I am because we are.” South Africa’s late president Nelson Mandela spoke about the importance of Ubuntu (Oneness) and the role it played in his life. No doubt this belief in Ubuntu fuelled Mandela’s efforts to create a more just society. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people. Human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability; it comes through the tireless efforts of men willing to be co-workers with God…” Martin Luther King Jr.’s call to action is as relevant today as it was in 1963. Leaders all over the world spent much of 2015 planning Global Oneness Day, our Earth Day for an awakened humanity and over 40 global leaders gave freely of their time. Together, we planned a day of expanded consciousness, of conscious creation, a day to put life first and to talk about being stewards of the Earth, our home.

Free Your Mind, The Rest will Follow: A Guide to Spiritual Retreats By Melissa MacDougall

M

onday morning arrives like a bolt of lightning. The nauseating sound of the incessant alarm clock pulls us from our semi-peaceful slumbe r before we have time to fully digest that another weekend has faded away. Our eyelids, heavy with disdain for this alltoo-early wakeup call, strain to open as the re minder of our weekly duties already tumbles through our consciousness. This long list of weekly duties carries forth from one day to the next, from one year to the next. We wrestle with multi-tasking from sun-up to sun-down and because of it, our health and happiness fall by the wayside. Before climbing into our over-priced gas-guzzlers and hitting the crowded commute toward a minimum eight hours of work, we ready the children for their day making sure we've double, triple checked their homework, packed their lunches, and ensured they've managed to drag a brush through their hair. We run around like headless, chaotic, masochistic chickens during the work-week and continue to do so on our weekends 'off'. Soccer practice, grocery shopping, and piles of laundry leave little time for the restoration that our bodies and our minds so desperately crave. Westerners, more specifically North Americans, are among the busiest people on earth. We don't know how to slow down, how to appreciate the time we have away from the office. We don't know how to siesta. We are tied to our phones, to our email, to our social media, never giving ourselves the opportunity or permission to be silent and at peace. By Friday afternoon, we are barely walking upright, exhausted from the mental and physical chores we've endured. What we may not realize is that exhaustion is accumulative. It's not only from the week that just played out in all its depleting, antagonistic horror, but also from every week that passed prior. What's worse, we are raising our children to be the same tired beings that we have become and speculation has it their lives will be far busier than ours are currently. We have adopted the notion that the preoccupation with chaos is more valuable than experiencing a greater connection with ourselves, our families, our planet, and the Universe. When we seek refuge within ourselves, we are renewed. Hitting the PAUSE button on life seems impossible to some. Even on a typical vacation, we are attached to our mobile devices, uploading pictures and status updates as we go. We are unable to conceive of stopping to smell the roses, unless, of course, we can tweet about it as we do so. When we exist in a world of over-stimulation, how can we be expected to know who we are beyond Mom or Dad, beyond Doctor So-and-So, beyond Mrs. Worker-Bee? While it is irresponsible to believe we can forego all the necessary inner-workings of our daily life, we can choose to give new meaning to the phrase, Peace Out. We can choose to unplug from what we know and

In taking time to engage in enlightenment and spiritual growth, we grant ourselves the health and well-being that is vital to our survival. Full-immersion retreats and workshops, offered globally, differ greatly but there is something suited for every individual's needs. Most often surrounded by natural beauty and boasting a true sense of serenity, spiritual retreats work to cultivate a deeper understanding of who we are and the world around us. Spanning such categories as yoga, meditation, personal, artistic, and religion, spiritual retreats are broken down further into silent, solitude, directed, fasting, structured, and non-structured focuses. It is suggested that first-time attendees choose a more structured basis for their spiritual retreat to properly free themselves of any undue worry over how to achieve the best results. With sincere attention to wellness, most retreats also offer organic, often vegetarian, dining and promote sustainability wherever possible. Below are some examples: Maple Ki Forest – Established in the mid80s, Maple Ki Forest is located mid-way between Toronto and Ottawa in the charming hamlet of Tamworth, Ontario. Its founders have set their sights on co-creating a tranquil space for personal growth, peaceful yoga practice, and the restoration of energy levels. Amping up its desirability, Maple Ki Forest also offers delicious vegetarian cuisine along with aromatherapy, shiatsu, and an array of athletic activities, including kayaking and canoeing. Surrounded by towering maples and on the sandy shores of a crystalline lake, Maple Ki

Forest ensures the ideal setting for gaining a new, enlightened perspective on life and all it has to offer. With retreats ranging in length from two nights to six, Maple Ki Forest's well-rounded packages bring together the ingredients for mental, physical, and spiritual health. Les Sources Sacrees – Situated in the Bordeaux region of France, Les Sources Sacrees, a guided equine growth retreat, brings together the harmonious surroundings of lush vineyards with the nurturing nature of horse therapy. With a focus on a variety of meditative methods, from walk meditation to writing, Les Sources Sacrees promotes a deep foundation of spiritual health. Named after the five ancient nearby springs that are believed to have healing powers, Les Sources Sacrees’ spirituality dates back as far as the 17th century. While no actual riding of the horses is permitted on the retreats, Les Sources Sacrees is about connecting deeper with oneself and the heartbeat of other life forces. Hearth & Soul – Set against the picturesque backdrop of Overberg, just outside Standford and 160 km from Cape Town, South Africa, Hearth & Soul, a 220 hectare eco-farm, promises a spiritual retreat unlike any other. Its mandate is to bring together artistic expression and self-awareness to begin the process of unblocking the arteries of cognitive and spiritual health. Empowered by the local landscape and the desire to live organically, Hearth & Soul brings to life the ability to calm the mind, body, and soul while silencing the distractions of daily life. Hearth & Soul defines evolution by shifting paradigms in sustainable per-

maculture and a unification of one's self. Vortex of Attraction – Combining luxury vacationing with the want and need for spiritual betterment, Esther Hicks, of Hicks-Abraham, has brilliantly created a retreat aboard Celebrity Cruiselines. Allowing attendees to reap the benefits related to increased vitamin D levels while providing them with essential information to transform their lives into one with depth and spiritual comprehension, Vortex of Attraction goes a long way to reach us where we already travel. Cruises are offered several times throughout the year with destinations in the Caribbean, Pacific Northwest, and South Pacific while workshops, the basis for Abraham recordings, are featured in an approximate 40 cities throughout the United States and Australia. Though we are quick to admit that time is precious and life is short, few of us are aware of how to actually utilize what resources we have to the best of our ability. Taking a personal Time Out doesn't mean we're self-centered; instead, it lends us the opportunity to get centered in our selves. Knowledge is power, so said Kofi Annan, and the achieved benefits of spiritual retreats and workshops are, indeed, an education. Lessons in empowerment, awareness, and understanding are long lasting, and each of us will be better and do better only after we learn the importance of spiritual investment. Psychedelic Psychotherapy Forum By Cherie Hans on

R

ecently, I attended a forum (October 2-3, 2015, Victoria, BC), which had as its participant psychiatrists psychotherapists, and healthcare workers fro m around the world gathered to learn new methods to help their patients. A psychotherapist from San Diego was working with returning soldiers who are captive to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Others from Great Britain, Australia, Germany, Central America, and other places on the globe were in attendance to learn about methods of becoming more effective in helping clients reclaim a normal life. Gabor Maté, who to date has authored ten .ew York Times best seller books including When the Body Says .o, was the opening speaker. His books expound on the importance of science understanding the systemic failure that can cause illness and dysfunction in a patient. He discussed a woman from Boston with increasingly debilitating Scleroderma who was able to stop the cycle of “turning to stone” and reclaimed her ability to move through the use of Ayahuasca. Today, she can walk and has recovered her ability to make facial expressions. Maté expounded upon the deep connection of mind and body in the field of heath care. The medical system, he stated, is failing the population because of the errors of its basic assumptions. The first is that the mind is separate from the body. The second assumption is that a person is separate from the influence of his or her environment. The third is that there is little or any role of early childhood, or adult trauma in the onset of illness. Gabor Maté pointed out there are patterns of illness such as when stressed parents have children who show up with asthma. The child’s body gets resistant to the stress response and becomes ill. “What does the doctor do when a child cannot handle the amount of stress hormone and is experiencing an asthma attack? The doctor administers more of the stress hormone into the child’s system,” Maté pointed out. Mental illnesses, he emphasized, are merely coping mechanisms created to compensate for an environment in early childhood that does not, “hold the child.” Maté cited the Harvard Center of Child Development’s information that the child takes on the primary abnormality of the parent: “Traumatized children have life-long higher markers for stress and the traumatized child has a 50% greater chance of cancer in his or her lifetime.” The real question is: How do you feel about yourself? The important question is: What support do you have around you? Trauma is the loss of self, the disconnection from self. What psychedelics can do is reconnect you to your authentic self. Some experience the presence of loving

Page 20

Dr. Gabor Mate´ is an addictions specialist and author of ten New York Times best-selling books. Photo credit: www.psychedelicpsychotherapy.ca/ entities who are watching over them. With psychedelics it is possible for the trauma to become your ally. When the patient just lets go, it is possible for early memories to become accessible. The primitive agony can be viewed in the safety of the presence of your adult self. The psychedelic journey can lead to experiences that introduce the patient to spiritual aspects in a universe in which the following is true: There is a light in the soul. Divine essence can be uncovered and experienced. The true goal of life is discovery, learning. There is an ultimate unity between all people, between people and nature. Everything is literally one unity. The goal in healing therapy is the goal of integration. “Integration is so important for us,” Maté emphasized. “Integrity is not the absence of ego; it is not letting the ego run the show.” He also stresses it is not the fireworks that are the point of psychedelic therapy. “The spiritual journey is not about unusual experiences,” he said. “One must be curious about whatever shows up.” The spectacle is “not the point of the inner journey,” he added. “It is about settling into the simplicity of being ourselves. (Trauma places a wall around us.) The pane of glass in front of our authentic selves keeps us from living.” He is finding in his lifelong work as a healer, Ayahuasca is providing a methodology more effective for the educated professional therapist. The caring analyst can find a way to release the traumatized patient from behind the wall of glass, to turn those whose lives are stone-like and terrifying into people who can walk in the world without fear. Gabor Maté ended by saying what we know is that the way things appear to us is actually the opposite of truth. Suggested reading: A Story Waiting to Pierce You by Peter Kingley. Seed of Change or a Return to our Past? By Tony Hetman

T

he health and quality of the land, how it is maintained, the natural fertilizers and means of disease and pest prevention, and the choice of seed are all important ingredients of organic farming. But, it all begins with quality organic seed. Enter Sunshine Farm, nestled in the Okanagan Valley of South Kelowna, British Columbia. Owned and operated by Jon and Sher Alcock, and their son Russ and daughter Mona, the farm is diversified, offering educational classes, vegetable sales, and the production and sale of organic seed. Jon tells a story of how he collected and sold seed for pocket money as a child. It seems his youthful passion for seed is still with him today. When the Alcocks noticed a decline in the number of seed varieties offered in seed house catalogues, they decided to fill that gap, because they felt it was important to preserve the genetics of past generations. The Alcocks purchased the land, which was mainly pasture and some grapevines, in 1985. Since that time, they have been nurturing the soil with organic matter such as green manure and homemade compost. Additionally, they fallow, or leave parts of

October Moon 2015

Jon Alcock examining seeds in his field. Photo credit: Tony Hetman the land unused for a year. These practices, as well as minimizing tillage (working the land with tools and equipment) helps to enrich their fields for organic seeding. Being Certified Organic, Sunshine Farm uses alternatives to pesticides, such as fostering habitat for beneficial insects, birds, amphibians, and microbes. They also practise delayed farming. With delayed farming, many of their crops are planted in June

rather than in May, which allows cultivating the spring weeds and preventing crops from being exposed to harmful insects. The Alcocks began by selecting several varieties of plants to grow. Taking advantage of a plant's natural ability to adapt to the climate and soil, they were successful at growing good performers in the Okanagan bioregion, where the summers are usually hot, with wet Junes and dry falls. Moreover, their farm is located on an old beach front of Lake Penticton from about 12,000 years ago. With the right amount of water and organic matter incorporated into the Oyama Sandy Loam, virtually anything can be grown. Sunshine Farm chooses to grow openpollinated vegetable seed. Open pollinated simply means pollination is left to natural means, such as birds, insects, wind, or humans. One advantage of this method is that the plants will adapt to the climate and growing conditions from year-to-year. Another advantage is the home gardener can save their own seed for future crops. There is, however, the problem of crosspollination when growing open-pollinated vegetable seed. Cross-pollination is when one plant pollinates a plant of the same species but of another variety. The result can be a hybrid of uncertain qualities and would not meet the stringent requirements for the type of seed Sunshine Farm strives for. A small scale gardener can minimize cross-pollination by growing only one variety of each species. For larger scale seed growers, other preventive measures need to be taken, such as planting different varieties 100 yards or more apart. Obviously this is not feasible for the backyard gardener. Vegetables also come in two basic types: annuals and biennials. Annuals such as beans, peas, and corn are planted each year and the seeds are harvested the same year. Biennials such as onions, beets, cauliflower, carrots, and onions are also planted each year but the seeds are not harvested until the following year. However, biennial seeds are the more difficult and time con-

www.alloneeramag.com

suming to harvest, as the plants that are to be saved for seed must be heavily mulched or stored in root cellar conditions so they can be replanted the following year for their seed. The seed selection process is determined by the quality of the plant and/or fruit, as determined by the grower. Such factors as colour and shape of the vegetable may be used in the selection process. Once that is determined, the seed is harvested from the chosen plant and dried. Some seed, such as carrots, are already mostly dry when harvested, whereas tomato and eggplant seed needs to have the film removed prior to drying. This is done by a process called fermentation, where the pulp around the seed is removed with water. Seeds that have not undergone fermentation also need to be cleaned. There are different methods of cleaning, including screens, winnowing, and sloping boards. All of the chaff and foreign objects must be removed from the seed. After cleaning, the seeds need to be documented. This includes seed field (plot) origin, harvest date, species, variety, weight, and packaging. The seed must also meet United States germination standards. Keeping a thorough yearly record of the seed helps the Sunshine Farm improve the quality of the seed for future crops. Commercially grown seed on a large scale may be treated with chemicals. When Jon is asked what his seed are treated with, he replies: “With love.” Sunshine Farm is a member of several associations that promote the growth of organic crops and seed. These include Pacific Agricultural Certification Society (PACS), North Okanagan Organic Association (NOOA), Canadian Organic Growers (COG), Certified Organic Associations of British Columbia, and BC Seeds. Currently, Sunshine Farm grows and sells 243 varieties of vegetables, 33 flowers, nine fruits, and four grains. Their seeds are sold locally, but have also found their way into China, Japan, Africa, Europe, Philippines, New Zealand, Brazil, Ecuador, and Ghana. Some of us don't realize that not all of the things that farmers do is for money. Watching an organic farmer working with the land, you immediately realize that they have a strong connection with the Earth, an intangible soul bond. Will the family farm find a rebirth, and what does the future hold for organic farming? Jon says, “We will have some family succession of our farm—we believe the future is bright as this type of agriculture is sustainable and regenerative and ultimately the only way to grow food for humans and live in harmony with the rest of the inhabitants of the planet.” Tony Hetman is an artisan, educator, and writer having published over 200 articles and technical documentations. Radiofrequency and Electromagnetic (EMF(EMF-RF) Radiation Damage Control Using Nutritional Supplementation By Ross A ndersen

DC , ND, DO ( M P)

adiofrequency radiation and electromagnetic field pollution are now part of modern living. This is an inconvenient truth as are so many other threats to our daily health imposed upon us by the conveniences we all love. We crave our gadgets and our entertainme nt and the incredible connectivity all of this technology allows us. Isn't it wonderful to have 800 friends on Facebook? It is now a well-established scientific fact that all of this technology is causing us significant health decline. One only has to delve into the scientific literature for a few minutes to understand the threats are real and severe. Most of us live in complete denial of the possibility that there could be anything dangerous about the wonderful cellphone we carry in our pocket or brassiere. To protect ourselves we must use the tools we have available to us. Protecting oneself from these toxic energies is not always possible. One can do many things in the home to limit exposure, but when we leave home we are exposed no matter what we do or where we go. Diet and nutritional supplementation can be effective in limiting the damage caused by modern day technology. To understand what nutritional supplements we need to take, we need to understand the types of damage these forms of radiation can inflict upon the human body. Nuclear radiation and electromagnetic radiation are similar in many ways, but there are significant differences in the effects they may have on our health. We are seeing a huge increase in certain neurological diseases, brain cancer, certain tumors, and many forms of immune system depletion and decline. Unfortunately, the health professions are not connecting the dots. Nor are they looking closely at the causative factors that exist with radiofrequency and electromagnetic radiation. Sleep disorders, oxidative stress effects, DNA/RNA damage, neurological mineral imbalances, pineal gland imbalances, blood-brain barrier weakness, skin conditions, and immune system malfunctions are at the top of the list of current health challenges related to wireless radiation. Let's look at each of these and the nutritional supplementation that may be effective at decreasing the damage. Sleep disorders and pineal gland imbalances are closely related. Recent research has found that the pineal gland perceives radiofrequency energy as light. Consequently, those who use wireless technology later in the evening may have difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep. Some may sleep, but not deeply. The best remedy of course is to stop using wireless technology in the evening; however, this is not always possible. For some people, taking 5-hydroxytryptophan and/or a small dose of melatonin might prove extremely helpful. Melatonin is also a powerful antioxidant and acts in this way against radiation stress.

Page 22

Child speaks on cellphone. Photo credit: Alex Gaylon Protecting the sleeping space is an absolute must for anyone with sleep disorders. A professional evaluation from an experienced consultant using the known standards for the factors affecting the sleeping space is highly recommended. Oxidative stress is one of our biggest enemies today and is caused by wireless radiation. Definitive research has shown radiofrequency and electromagnetic pollution are major causes. The results are inflammation and acceleration of the aging process, and damage to the immune system is involved in most disease processes. There is much that can be done with nutrition to fight back. Antioxidants are the answer; however, certain antioxidants are better than others against this form of pollution. EMF stress has been shown to respond effectively to the antioxidants in the mushroom family. For some reason, mushrooms thrive in high EMF environments and consequently have high levels of protection for those who consume them. A mix of numerous mushrooms in one capsule is the best approach as one gets various benefits from each different type of mushroom. R–Lipoic Acid is a very important nutritional supplement for a number of reasons. It crosses the blood brain barrier and also helps to remove heavy metals such as mercury. The removal of heavy metals is essential for people who are sensitive to EMF radiation as the heavy metals you harbor act as an antenna for the toxic energies. Mercury tends to collect in the brain and the last thing we need is a cellphone antenna inside our head. R–lipoic Acid is also a powerful antioxidant and as such can reduce the oxidative stress caused by Erad. R–lipoic Acid is manufactured by our bodies and unfortunately the rate of production decreases as we age. It is wise to increase the dosage of this nutrient every couple of years or depending on the levels of exposure to wireless. Resveratrol is a polyphenol compound with reported antioxidant and anti-cancer properties. Research studies have shown this compound from red wine has RF protective effects in animal studies. It would

take significantly more wine than one wishes to consume on a regular basis to get the amounts necessary to protect against radiation. Generally, one capsule contains the amount of resveratrol found in more than 20 glasses of red wine. Strangely enough, Merlot has the highest level of resveratrol of all the red wines. With current levels of RF radiation, one might be wise to add two capsules of this to their daily supplement regime. NAC [N – Acetyl Cysteine] is a widely used amino acid nutritional supplement that is one of the building blocks of glutathione, one of the most powerful antioxidants created by the human body. Research has shown that it is protective against DNA breakage caused by radiation. Ionizing and nonionizing radiation cause similar damage to the DNA of cells. Adequate glutathione levels are absolutely necessary to protect us against all forms of radiation. The glutathione detoxification mechanisms are one of our primordial health maintenance gifts. This mechanism likely resulted from millions of years of exposure to simple things like smoke and dust. Unfortunately, this mechanism is easily overpowered as the level of toxic exposure we now have is hundreds of times what it was just a few centuries ago. NAC would be a good addition to any supplemental program, especially for urban city dwellers. ACE stands for vitamins A, C, and E. These are known as the Three Musketeers of antioxidant nutrition. They are, of course, found in virtually every multiple vitamin supplement ever produced. They are well known to have antioxidant, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory capabilities. The levels needed for protection against EMF effects are quite a bit higher than would be found in a multivitamin. Consulting a nutritional health professional to determine adequate dosages is usually a good idea. Polyphenols are found in many foods, especially green leafy vegetables and green tea. They can also be taken in supplemental form. Plant polyphenols can protect human cells against radiation-induced DNA damage. This has been proven in

www.alloneeramag.com

numerous, peer-reviewed scientific studies. Unfortunately, polyphenols and their healthful properties can be destroyed by high temperature cooking. There are numerous advantages to eating a good portion of one's diet as raw food. Selenium is a wonderful mineral and when taken in small doses can have profound effects on things like allergies, immune system depletion, and radiation damage, especially to the kidneys. Healthy kidneys are essential to healthy living and since they are a blood filtering organ they can be exposed to radiation that enters the body from any source. Kidneys are a very delicate organ and damage is usually irreparable. A small amount of selenium on a daily basis [200 mcg] is highly protective and highly advised. One must be careful with selenium as anything above 400 mcg for extended periods of time can be too much. One's diet can also have a profound effect on protecting from EMF–RF damage. Raw or lightly cooked foods high in antioxidant qualities would be wise dietary measures. Devitalized, highly cooked foods that contain large amounts of free radicals will only deplete the body's ability to combat the damage from these forms of radiation. Cancer, neurological diseases, and many other degenerative diseases are increasing exponentially as people's immune systems are depleted and their defense mechanisms are worn down. We were designed for healthy, vital whole foods. A healthy diet also consists of proper water intake. Our bodies are about 65% water by weight and it is the one compound that is the basis of virtually all life. There is water in certain places on our planet that is naturally antioxidant and alkaline. Inhabitants in areas where this water flows naturally are incredibly healthy and have amazing longevity. These benefits likely arise from the antioxidant quality of this water. This water is now available to anyone through the wonders of bio ceramic technology. It only makes sense to flood our bodies with antioxidant water molecules to negate the effects of EMF – RF at the cellular level. The final word on protecting yourself with nutrition is that supplementation is not the final answer. Reducing or eliminating EMF-RF exposure is the only longterm and logical solution. The damage is cumulative and the science results are now coming in that exposure for over 10 years can be deadly. While you are working to reduce your exposure, a supplement program is highly recommended. For those who are exposed as part of their occupational duties it is essential to have as much protection as possible. This invisible toxic threat is real and we need to pay attention now. Concerned about their patients’ health Canada’s doctors take a stand on climate change By Cam eron Esler

I

n August, the Canadian Medical Association voted to divest its holdings in fossil fuel companies. For two doctors from the 4orthwest Territories, it was a successful step in efforts to raise awareness within the me dical community about the health impacts of climate change. “I heard David Suzuki speak in Yellowknife during the Blue Dot Tour,” Dr. Jennifer Harris, from the Northwest Territories, said. “Previously, I was quite overwhelmed by the implications of climate change and I’d felt I wouldn’t be able to do anything more meaningful to secure our natural world other than individually reducing, re-using, and recycling. The Blue Dot message was positive and unarguably essential.” “I think as an Arctic population we’re more conscious of the link between the environment and health,” said Courtney Howard, who spoke at the CMA’s general council meeting. She also serves on the board of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment and is involved with its climate-health advocacy. “People here are still very close to the land, so they really notice changes in the land and they communicate that to us.” Together, the two brought a Blue Dot motion to the Northwest Territories Medical Association, and the motion passed last February. For Harris and Howard, environmental leadership is a natural fit with their profession. “Food availability, for me, is the crux of it; that’s the thing I worry about going forward,” said Howard. “I spent six months working on a pediatric malnutrition project in the Horn of Africa. Having seen infants and children die of malnutri-

tion, I’m extremely aware of that as a risk. When you see the droughts, when you see the changes in agriculture already, and you see the forecast for how warm we’re heading on our current trajectory, I can see ho w tha t would very quickly affect the lives of many.” How ard said the 2014 forest fire season also drew a firm line between environmental and human health. “ We ha d really terrible air quality for more than two months, which affected people’s ability to go outside and exercise. It affected a lot of people with asthma and people had trouble with coughing, headaches, and itchy eyes. I think it required enough of us to breathe wildfire smoke, to have felt it in our bodies, to be willing to stand up there and do what has always been ethically right.” Howard added, “There’s also a very under-acknowledged mental health aspect to this. When I read Bill McKibben’s [2012 Rolling Stone article] “Terrifying New Math,” I had a six-month-old daughter. By the end of the article, I was curled up in the fetal position around her.” Globally, health professionals have

increasingly worked to raise the alarm about climate change. The medical journal The Lancet has identified the effort to tackle climate change as the greatest global health oppor tuni ty of the 21st century. The W o r l d Health Org a ni z a ti o n has j us t launched a c a mp a i g n called Our Climate, Our Health to mobilize the global health c o mmu ni t y to act on c li ma te change. Ho war d c o ntr ib ute s her time and science background to help popularize reports such as Acting on Climate: Solutions From Canadian Scholars, which says Canada can meet its needs with 100 per cent renewable energy by 2035 and decrease emissions by 80 per cent by midcentury. And the CMA’s fossil fuel divestment decision followed similar moves by national medical associations in Britain and Australia. “I think it’s very important that everyone helps champion the cause,” said Harris. “However, people who have been given more of a voice in society, which at times can include physicians, are essential to helping us shift toward protection of our

www.alloneeramag.com

environment. It would make a huge difference to have this enshrined within our Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Once we have this platform, our soil, water, trees, and oceans would not be something we have to constantly fight to protect.” Howard said the divestment effort helps speed up attention and action, something the CMA wanted to contribute to. “One of our major roles is to train the next generation of physicians, to hand over the knowledge they need to function,” she said. “If we hand over a planetary system that isn’t functioning, that’s about the wickedest bad handover we could ever do. It doesn’t matter how well we teach them how to treat hypertension if their patients are dying of starvation. Whereas, if we tackle climate change, from a health point of view we’ll see side benefits, such as better fitness related to people using bikes more, or less asthma and COPD related to air pollution.” Howard acknowledged that the CMA motion was difficult for doctors from communities whose economies depend on fossil fuel industries. “But at the end of the day we need to make a choice,” she said. “Are we going to acknowledge that climate change is a major health issue that requires immediate treatment? The doctors of Canada said yes.” For health professionals seeking information or mentorship related to climatehealth advocacy, contact CAPE, or Dr. Howard via Twitter, @courtghoward. be God in a body! He had become fully initiated as one of the Living Ascended Masters in the Pharaohs palace. He was raised Knowing the universe in oneness with his complete Self … A TOTAL MICROCOSM OF THE MACROCOSM. In the moment of my epiphany on the beach, Moses' plight became clear. Here he was, a man who had been initiated into the most sacred ancient mystery schools and was taught how, and fully experienced total splendid holy oneness! Born to Hebrew parents, and naturally drawn to their plight, he realized he had the unique glorious opportunity to impart his vast wisdoms on his people. He must have felt so empowered in that glorious moment! I recalled the famous display of magic that dazzled The Pharaoh, as Aaron turned his staff into a serpent and forecast the angel of death taking all the first-born sons of the Pharaoh’s people. Moses then quickly instructed the Hebrew people to paint the blood of an unblemished, sacrificed lamb on their doorposts as a sign so that the angel would pass over their houses and slay only the firstborn of the Egyptian Peoples (Exodus 12:1-28). His prescription worked as only the first-born sons of the ancient civilization were taken. In horror, Pharaoh released all the slaves and let them go! Today, Jewish people in all parts of the world celebrate this each year with a dinner known as the Passover Seder, a freedom from slavery memorial, which was the same festive meal Jesus celebrated as his famous “Last Supper.” It was precisely at this time of The Exodus that Moses realized his plight to then have to impart and enlighten his people by sharing his vast experience of Universal Oneness that he had reveled in during his life in the Pharaohs Palace. This was my “ah-ha” moment! Moses was faced with the most difficult of all possible challenges! From all accounting, there were just about one million slaves and their families present when Moses led them into the desert, where they were to wander for 40 years. In spite of food falling from the sky, “manna from heaven,” and a host of other miraculous displays, the people failed to grasp Moses’ grand teachings of their unity with Holy Spirit and instead, they began making graven images to worship. They were unable to open and allow themselves to align with the all loving, eternal flow of universal consciousness, becoming Realized Beings, as Moses had. The choice was clear: the people were not ready for such glorious enlightenment. Moses then saw that they were not ready and the next best thing he could do for them to receive the guidance was to create scriptures and commandments with a fear base, structuring a God outside of themselves, as they had lost touch the divine fire within after so long an ordeal in slavery. God would have to be a separate entity to be feared so the people would stay in line versus a lovebased merger with divine knowingness. This, he knew, would maintain order and would eventually evolve to alignment with divine spirit. He then proceeded to set forth for them to live by the famous Ten Commandments followed by all the scriptures as his only natural second choice. These scriptures known as the Old Testament or The Five Books of Moses or The Torah, were and still are the foundation for

Page 24

the Judeo/Christian Era; however, the Master Jesus’ teachings in the New Testament, open the way to return to our all-knowing capitol S Selves. His famous quote, “Have we not all one Father?” and his fervent message, “I and the father are one,” all signify that he and Moses shared the same plight. He never wanted to be worshipped, which, sadly, has been the focus up until the dawn of this ALL ONE ERA. Moses’ Ten Commandments and all of the scriptures are indeed magnificently crafted, with the works so complete and all encompassing, that the entire ChristianJudaic society still honors and reveres them today. However, the question arises: Are we NOW ready for the revelation that indeed we ARE love and we ARE Divine Spirit, the I AM Knowingness that instantly opens us as conduits? The Guided work of Moses and all the scribes is inspirationally crafted; however, it paled for me when I clearly realized how the purity of being in our oneness, and foreverness, and sublime lovingness, was and is indeed the ONLY Commandment and only Scripture that is ever needed. Once we are love based and not fear based; and once we are in harmony with the ever flowing cosmic vibration, the Loving Universal Consciousness, we ARE God. No longer do we require guidance from fear, rather, universal love consciousness is our Now Commandment. Let’s have a look at some of the wondrous discoveries that are popping up all over in this new era. The book by Paul Hawken, Blessed Unrest, describes our present huge momentum to help and heal by millions of people and corporations engaging in countless ways to help others and the planet. The book Initiation by Elizabeth Haich takes us back in great detail, to the ways of the Pharaohs and the age of Knowing. In the book The Dream of the Cosmos A quest for the Soul by Anne Baring, Dr. Baring explores our cultural roots leading to our crisis and gives us a gripping scholarly lifetime study of the growth of human consciousness. Please check our website for a library list of aligned works (www.alloneera.com). The celebrated author Gregg Braden, during his extensive 12-year study of the most sacred and honored traditions of humankind, has discovered tangible and unprecedented evidence that we are all part of a greater existence. In his book: The God Code: The Secret of our Past, the Promise of our Future the author states that a coded message has been found within the molecules of life, deep within the DNA in each cell of our bodies. He sets forth that our past is about to change through a remarkable discovery linking the Biblical Hebrew Alphabet to our genetic code. Could be Moses’ and Jesus’ living messages be emerging? For me, it is the sound or the vibration of the letters and the words that touch our souls. There are meanings beyond our 3D scope of understanding that these vibrations unleash and as we open in receivership, they lift us into unlimited dimensions and clarity. As we ascend in the Knowingness, the clarity is revealed to us that indeed we are one with Divinity. We embrace Holiness and welcome it into our everyday lives. Holiness is the swirling mass of loving energy that makes up the ethereal plane of consciousness. I am in awe of the vast scope of what the word God has come to

The Bhagavad Gita, verses 2:51, 2:52, 2:53 2:54, 2:55, 2:56. And 2:57 as translated from the Sanskrit by Juan Mascaro state: KRISH4A 2:51 Seers in union with wisdom forsake the rewards of their work, and free from the bonds of birth they go to the abode of salvation. 2:52 When thy mind leaves behind its dark forest of delusion, thou shalt go beyond the scriptures of times past and still to come. 2:53 When thy mind, that may be wavering in the contradictions of many scriptures, shall rest unshaken in divine contemplation, then the goal of Yoga is thine. ARJU4A 2:54 How is the man of tranquil wisdom, who abides in divine contemplation? What are his words? What is his silence? What is his work? KRISH4A 2:55 When a man surrenders all desires that come to the heart and by the grace of God, finds the joy of God, then his soul has indeed found peace. 2:56 He whose mind is untroubled by sorrows, and for pleasures he has no longings, beyond passion, and fear and anger, he is the sage of unwavering mind. 2:57 Who everywhere is free from all ties, who neither rejoices or sorrows if fortune is good or is ill, his is a serene wisdom.

represent. While most agree it is not the long white-haired old man we see in antique paintings, we continue to cling to stereotypes and images and conjure ideas of a fearful elder or Creator or Force who we shrivel before in submission. The AllOne-Era is a blessed time of awakening where we are reclaiming our power and saying that we are embracing the majesty of and the feeling of being one with Divinity. We are not saying we are God, the feared ancient image; we are opening our feminine receiving sides (our X chromosomes, which is a little easier for women as they are XX and we men are XY) to allow the ever-present cosmic energy to come through us and for us to become God/ Goddess in a body. “The Bhagavad Gita”, an ancient East Indian poem of dialog between Krishna and his disciple Arjuna contains insights that have inspired tens of millions for thousands of years, perhaps predating the new and old testaments. I have scattered a few quotes throughout this book so you can catch a glimpse of Krishna speaking as a Divine entity and the contrast of Arjuna and all of the entitles in the poems equally being Divine entities. As we rise above the three-dimensional human plane, which is ruled by fear, ego and materialism, we enter into the dimensions of love, forgiveness and Divine inspiration and Godance. As we bridge what we realize, when in those higher vibrating

www.alloneeramag.com

dimensions, into our human lives, we can begin to co-create the holiest of planes. Jesus, Moses, Buddha, Gandhi, and all of the great Prophets were models who did just this, because they were one with all there is. We each need to reclaim our power and brightly shine, each and every one of us, because we too are models, we are all geniuses! We are all each other’s teachers! At any age and any circumstance! The good news is... it is easy to do! All we need to do is happily surrender our egos and open our X chromosomes, our feminine receiving “heart selves” and simply be Goded! We have separated ourselves from knowing who we really are. We have historically judged ourselves and each other based on the narrow viewpoint of our conduct and fear-based religious scriptures and doctrines, and on other steadfast or perceived regulations that we have chosen to adopt. The All-One-Era paradigm welcomes us to leave behind any judgment of ourselves or others, and to empower our souls as all one-forever beings. This new Era is us finally understanding that we are worthy and we are all equal and we are ALL Divine Entities, exactly what all of the Great Teachers, the Ascended Masters, have been saying all these millennia. We can clearly see now how their teachings were not intended to encourage others to worship them as deities, but to bring us to

ALL ONE ERA magazine the realization that we are all deities! This is the dawning of the Messianic Era or the Christ Consciousness Era. This is the receiving of Knowingness, aka Cosmic Energy, or Loving Universal Consciousness, that surrounds us at all times. This is the opening to our heritage that indeed we are each a microcosm of the universe and of Grand Love. We NOW are arriving home to who we really are‌ We ARE love, our time is NOW for love! Love is that which we are and always will be. It is the expression of God in everything and everyone, with God being the eternal loving energy that continues to evolve through all. God and love are synonymous and cyclical, forever evolving. Love is God and God is love. Neither are a figure or idol, but rather a consistent energy running through us all and all there is. We decide the level at which this God Love vibrates within each of us, and within our world. It is we who chose how connected we are to Spirit, and to what degree we wish to vibrate to achieve our highest levels. Through the opening of our X chromosomes, our Feminine Selves, our Receiving Selves, we are filled with Knowingness, that magical, wispy, silent yet loud, transparent yet colour-filled, welling feeling of joy that titillates every atom of every cell in our bodies! The images of desolation and catastrophes within my dream were a paralleled reflection of our sad realities. Our world has never been so close to complete and utter destruction. The earth has been weakened by the punches she has received at our hands; and what she may have survived in past decades, she cannot anymore.

October Moon 2015

She is struggling, crying out for us to be in total consciousness with her to achieve harmony. As we begin to gather and share our closeness with our earth, we bring huge Light. As we all know, a single candle can light the darkest room. We are living on borrowed time. The pleas of starving children and cries of dying whales and elephants are the earth letting out her last sighs of wanting to die. We have tortured her so, living from a space within ourselves that has not been with Godance – Divine Guidance! We KNOW in our heart of hearts that it is not too late. Even though we have progressed so close to the brink of utter destruction, we KNOW it is not too late to shift our world back to its natural glorious state of love and oneness. The Time is NOW for Love. This is more than a cute statement; it is a truth felt deeply in our forever souls. It is a call for a mighty new movement. This globally felt movement, this All-One-Era, allows and beckons us to celebrate our all-one roots as we dare to venture within our souls, as we dare to open to the flow of our forever Selves, to within our very existence and to within our original splendid intension of creation Itself! We KNOW love is the ONLY way. We know LOVE will show us the way. Stephen Cipes, ambassador and visionary f o r t h e Al l - On e - Er a . Exploring Masculinity in the Era of Oneness By Nor ber t Maio Maer tens

E

ver since wome n have been ce le brating the Godde ss within at the time of the 4ew Moon in the Pyramid of the Summerhill Pyramid Winery, a sense of frustration has been growing among the me n who feel left out and left behind. This past summe r, the time felt ripe to call out on many of those men and instead of drowning ourselves in solitude, and thanks to the generosity of Stephen Cipes, we decided to gather in the Kekuli at the Summe rhill Pyramid Winery during the same time the wome n are having their time in the Pyramid. Bringing the men to focus in a circle of seekers for meaning and purpose at the birthplace of this new All-One-Era magazine is like adding the missing cornerstone to the complementary wholeness men and women bring to the higher potential of the human race and launching that potential into the Era of Oneness. Although it is tempting to join in the fun promised by our generally accepted and unquestioned “successful” McDisneyCasino culture, and find reason to celebrate our masculinity and turn the Men’s Circle events into make-feel-good gatherings, thus adding to the distraction and perpetuating our sense of loss and confusion about what it means to be a man amidst a dysfunctional and unsustainable society, many men have come to the realization that our involvement in the drive for Progress to Nowhere is a mistake and driving our Planet towards major rebalancing reactions—climate change being the most unsurmountable of these. Since we lack inspiring and functional male role models, and because the solutions a functional matriarchy could offer to keep humanity focused with the seven generations in mind have fallen by the wayside, it is up to us men to gain clarity about ourselves and what we can do to play a more active role in shaping our future and that of the generations to come. For most men, this is uncharted territory. As we are forced to seek answers for questions we haven’t formulated yet, we feel alone, vulnerable, and at a loss. This should not come as a surprise, because in our Western culture – the culture based on individualism and the nuclear family structure – we men are socialized to be competitive as providers and protectors of the family, not allowing our weaknesses and vulnerabilities to come in the way of what needs to be done for the benefit of the family, but to stuff our feelings and to take our challenges as ‘stiffupper-lipped’ men. Many men tend to accept this pattern and survive by smothering feelings with drinking and drugs, perpetual entertainment, consuming drama, and ever more extreme excitement. Others, instead, of hiding their feelings and working things out in isolation, feel the need to talk to others, as a way to gain a different perspective, a way to help think through and process the challenges. And although the men’s spouses or partners could be the most likely person to talk to, most men rightfully presume or have ex-

Page 26

Photo Credit: Norbert Majo Maertens perienced that admitting their weaknesses, admitting they do not have all the answers are also risking their relationships. By the same token, exposing our problems, weaknesses, and vulnerabilities among peers or even friends is ‘suicidal’ in our dog-eatdog chain of command. Men quickly learn they can only share feelings and intimate issues with those they really have come to trust, those they feel truly safe with. Therefore, men need to bond on a personal level before they dare open up and share their feelings, which is rather contradictory for women who tend to have it much easier to share and talk with other women and bond in the process. Inspired by the traditions of our ancestors the world over, we opt to gather in a way to learn from each other in a safe and trusting setting, to support each one of us in our effort to re-discover our authentic selves, and to walk our talk. The challenge to create a truly functional Men’s Circle is to create that sense of safety and support where men can bond before they feel at risk. Many formats abound, but the North American Native tradition has taught us the power of the Sacred Circle—being a circle of participating men around a Sacred Fire, surrounded by our Ancestors, represented in the stones circling the fire and witnessing our challenges. At the beginning of each Men’s Circle event and before any of the participants can set the stage, a brief ceremony is held as a way to designate the fire and the circle as sacred, which means from that moment on, all participants are asked not to talk to each other. Instead, all talk is directed to the fire so everything said is burned and so nothing is taken out and away. By doing so, privacy and confidentiality is of the essence as only the lesson becomes common wisdom, not the information. Nevertheless, each participant is encouraged to share his insights, experiences, and lessons relating to his personal situation, while holding the talking stick and using ‘I-statements’ as a way to take ownership and responsibility and to maintain healthy boundaries. Even though we Westerners are entrenched in a culture that values competition and “might over right” to suppress and

satisfy our insecurities, we avoid disintegration of the circle and dividing into winners versus losers by discouraging all forms of competition including person-toperson discussions and argumentation, teaching, preaching, promotion of any kind of business, or ego-pedestalling. Instead, we gather as equals. This creates unity and a sense of belonging and purpose for all participants. In the Circle, we are all equal. There is no one in front of you and there's nobody behind you. 4o one is above you; no one is below you. The Circle is Sacred because it is designed to create Unity. ~ Lakota Wisdom ~ The purpose of the Men’s Circle is to help us to find meaning and purpose in life by reconnecting with our authentic selves, while silencing our socio/economic adopted self or ego-centered self. This way we can hear the inner conversation between Universal Spirit and our authentic self. Basically, you rediscover the true you—the authentic you. One way to rediscover and reconnect with our authentic self is to recall our past, to remember and reconstruct the story of our life, our experiences, and the lessons we learned or ignored, as they are the mileposts directing us to the place where we currently find ourselves. As the wisdom of the past tells us: “as long as we don’t know our story, we do not know who we are.” In the spirit of our ancestors and their traditions, and to help each individual stand for what they stand for and to help each walk their talk, each person willing to speak into the Sacred Fire is asked to use the talking stick. The talking stick is our tool to allow one to speak freely and uninterrupted for as long as that person holds the talking stick. The many items decorating the talking stick are representing the many aspects and issues we men need to talk about, openly and without shame nor blame, while at the same time reminding each individual they are not alone in this or any issue in particular.

To add support in this process, we also identify with the universal concept of the four directions as they relate to the four stages or polarities in our lives, also known as the four archetypes: the Visionary, the Warrior, the Lover, and the Wizard. Those four archetypes are our ambassadors and balance keepers between our minds and our hearts, between the ‘What’ (facts, trivia) and the ‘Why’ (reason), that gives meaning and purpose in our lives. As such, the Visionary and the Wizard are reminding us men of the importance of thinking things through and our ability to look into the future, using predominantly our left hemisphere of our brain, while the Warrior and Lover are reminding us of our connection with our heart and our ability to feel our feelings, our ability to look in the past, using predominantly our right hemisphere of the brain. Our fast-paced culture increasingly values fast decision making, mostly by acting on our feelings (fear, impulse buying) before we have the time and silence to process and think things through. We men tend to feel left out as we see how our economy is thriving on the make-feel-good consumerism to feed the never satisfied Monster of our own making. As we men have allowed that precious balance to slip away, it can be learned from history: Feeling without Thinking is Illusion, and Thinking without Feeling is Dogma. The Men’s Circle is our support syste m to bring those two complementary abilities back in balance, to honour our feelings as we honour our unique gift to think, or as the saying goes: Listen to your head, but be true to your heart. Finding that balance helps us ignore the call to discredit men’s tendency to be in their head. The privilege to hold our Men’s Circle in the Kekuli is adding momentum to find that masculine/feminine balance. Being in the earth-covered Kekuli is like being in the womb of Mother Earth, the Sacred Fire in the circle gives safety and warmth, our bare feet are planted in real dirt so we can feel the real touch of our Mother (weather permitting) while the beat of the drum and the rushing of the creek nearby resonates with the heartbeat of the Mother. Once we come to understand how in our socio-economic system, our masculine/ feminine complementary differences are being manipulated and exploited for the benefit of the few, we men can no longer stand back and ignore our role in the state of the planet. Only after we have reclaimed that role can we truly celebrate our authentic Masculinity. Our aim is to bring this gathering to focus every New Moon, so feel free to join and share this invitation with your brothers, those looking for answers within, those ready to shift major paradigms in their life. I look forward to sharing my journey. With Love and Light. .orbert Maio Maertens, Paradigmshifter www.AllOneEra.com
