An apple a day keeps the doctor away We have heard this proverb so many times that don’t pay attention to it any more. However, there are many reasons to heed the advice of that old saying. Lots of research is being done to show the health benefits of including apples in your diet. Scientists have named an apple the fruit number one for humans. Sometimes we forget that the simplest answer is the best. Next time you need a snack reach for the fruit bowl for some apples.

Health Benefits of Apples Boost your immune system: Apples contain vitamins A, B and C and an antioxidant called quercetin which, as multiple recent studies have found, can help to boost and fortify your immune system, especially when you are stressed out. Avoid Alzheimer’s: The quercetin in apples may protect brain cells from the kind of free radical damage that may lead to Alzheimer’s disease. Protect against Parkinson’s: Researches have shown that people who eat fruits and other highfibre foods may gain protection against Parkinson’s, a disease characterized by a breakdown of the brain’s dopamine-producing nerve cells. Scientists have linked this to the free radical-fighting power of the antioxidants. Lower cholesterol & improve your cardiovascular system: The pectin and soluble fibre, which binds with fats in the intestine, lower LDL (―bad‖) cholesterol. The phenolic compound of apple skin also prevents the cholesterol that gets into your system from solidifying on your artery walls. When plaque builds inside your arteries, it reduces blood flow to your heart, leading to coronary artery disease. They say that people who eat two apples per day may lower their cholesterol by as much as 16%. Reduce the risk of cancer: It is a scientifically proven fact that flavonoid–rich apples could help reduce the risk of developing pancreatic, liver, lung, colon, and breast cancer. Several compounds – triterpenoids – found in apple peel have potent anti-growth activities against cancer cells. Manage diabetes: The pectin in apples supplies galacturonic acid to the body which lowers the body’s need for insulin and may help in the management of diabetes.

Help maintain a healthy digestive tract: Fibre in apple can pull water out of the colon to keep things moving along or absorb excess water from the stool to slow the bowels down. It can neutralize irritable bowel syndrome that characterized by constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain and bloating. Whether you cannot go to the bathroom or you just cannot stop, apples will be of great help. Avert haemorrhoids: Hemorrhoids are caused by too much pressure in the pelvic and rectal areas. Fibre can prevent you from straining too much when going to the bathroom and thereby help alleviate hemorrhoids. Control your weight: Being overweight can cause many health problems: heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea. Foods high in fibre will fill you up without costing you too many calories. Get healthier teeth: Chewing an apple stimulates the production of saliva in your mouth, reducing tooth decay by lowering the levels of bacteria. Prevent gallstones formation: The excess of cholesterol in your bile can solidify in form of gallstones. Fibre helps to control your cholesterol level. Reduce the probability of cataracts: Though past studies have been divided on the issue, recent long-term studies suggest that people who have a diet rich in fruits that contain antioxidants— like apples—are 10 to 15 per cent less likely to develop cataracts. Protect your bones: Phloridzin, a flavanoid found only in apples, may protect post-menopausal women from osteoporosis and may also increase bone density. A Word of Warning! Although, apples are very healthy food, not everyone can consume them. If you have gastritis, ulcer or pancreatitis, eating apples could be a very bad idea. Ask your doctor first.

What Makes Apples So Great? Vitamins & other antioxidants: Compared to many other fruits and vegetables, apples contain relatively low amounts of vitamin C, but are a rich source of other disease-fighting antioxidant compounds. Antioxidants are chemical substances that donate an electron to the free radical and convert it to a harmless molecule. They reduce or prevent oxidation, thus preventing cell and tissue damage from free radicals in the body. Pectin: While less than in most other fruits, apples are full of a natural fibre called pectin: a mediumsized apple contains about 4gr of fibre. Pectin is classed as a soluble, fermentable and viscous fibre, a combination that gives it a huge list of health benefits. The fibre helps regulate bowel movements and reduces cholesterol by preventing re-absorption. Flavonoids: ―In vitro‖ apples contain a host of phytochemicals including bioflavonoids and many phenolic compounds that have antiviral, antiallergic, antiinflammatory, and antitumor and antioxidant activities. Probably, because of flavonoids, especially – quercetin, the old saying about eating ―an apple a day‖ has been associated with good health. It combats the destructive ―free radical‖ molecules that play a part in many diseases. Quercetin is found only in the apple skin. Phytochemicals may help slow the aging process and reduce the risk of many diseases, including cancer, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, cataracts, osteoporosis, and urinary tract infections. Phytochemicals are usually related to plant pigments: the more intense the color of a fruit or vegetable the greater the concentration of these compounds. For the apple, most of these colorful compounds are concentrated in the skin. The skin also contains more antioxidants and fiber than the flesh. Tannins: Tannins are substances that tan hides and make apples rust when exposed to the effects of the air. Research suggests tannins may help prevent periodontal or gum disease. The apple seeds are mildly poisonous, containing a small amount of amygdaline, a cyanogenic glycoside; it usually is not enough to be dangerous to humans.

Interesting Facts about Apples The apple is the pomaceous fruit of the apple tree, species Malus domestica in the rose family (Rosaceae) and is a perennial. It is one of the most widely cultivated tree fruits, and the most widely known of the many members of genus Malus that are used by humans. Apple trees do not bear their first fruit until they are four or five years old. Archaeologists have evidence of people eating apples as far back as 6500 B.C. There are more than 7,500 known cultivars of apples, resulting in a range of desired characteristics. At least 55 million tons of apples were grown worldwide in 2005, with a value of about $10 billion. China produced more apples than any other country: about 35% of this total. Mature trees typically bear 40–200 kilograms (88– 440lb) of apples each year, though productivity can be close to zero in poor years. Guinness World Records reports that the heaviest apple known weighed 1.849kg and was grown in Hirosaki city, Japan in 2005. According to the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, there are about 300 Commercial Apple Growers in the province that occupy 15,412 acres (6,237ha) with marketed production of fresh apples of about 230,000,000lb per year (2006). The average person eats 65 apples per year. Apples float because 25% of their volume is air. One medium apple contains about 80 calories. The Adam’s apple is so-called because of a popular idea that it was created when the forbidden fruit got stuck in Adam’s throat when he swallowed it.

Adam and Eve by Albrecht Dürer 1507

Though the forbidden fruit in the Book of Genesis is not identified, popular Christian tradition has held that it was an apple that Eve coaxed Adam to share with her. As a result, the apple became a symbol for knowledge, immortality, temptation, the fall of man into sin, and sin itself. In Latin, the words for ―apple‖ and for ―evil‖ are similar in the singular (malus-apple, malum-evil).

1.1 billion people at risk of hearing loss Data from studies in middle- and high-income countries analyzed by WHO indicate that among teenagers and young adults aged 12-35 years, nearly 50% are exposed to unsafe levels of sound from the use of personal audio devices and around 40% are exposed to potentially damaging levels of sound at entertainment venues. Unsafe levels of sounds can be, for example, exposure to in excess of 85 decibels (dB) for eight hours or 100dB for 15 minutes.

―As they go about their daily lives doing what they enjoy, more and more young people are placing themselves at risk of hearing loss,‖ notes Dr. Etienne Krug, WHO Director for the Department for Management of Non-communicable Diseases, Disability, Violence and Injury Prevention. ―They should be aware that once you lose your hearing, it won’t come back. Taking simple preventive actions will allow people to continue to enjoy themselves without putting their hearing at risk.‖ Safe listening depends on the intensity or loudness of sound, and the duration and frequency of listening. Exposure to loud sounds can result in temporary hearing loss or tinnitus which is a ringing sensation in the ear. When the exposure is particularly loud, regular or prolonged, it can lead to permanent damage of the ear’s sensory cells, resulting in irreversible hearing loss.

In its press release, World Health Organization (WHO) highlights serious threat posed by exposure to recreational noise – Some 1.1 billion teenagers and young adults are at risk of hearing loss due to the unsafe use of personal audio devices, including smartphones, and exposure to damaging levels of sound at noisy entertainment venues such as nightclubs, bars and sporting events, according to WHO. Hearing loss has potentially devastating consequences for physical and mental health, education and employment.

WHO RECOMMENDATIONS WHO recommends that the highest permissible level of noise exposure in the workplace is 85 dB up to a maximum of eight hours per day. Many patrons of nightclubs, bars and sporting events are often exposed to even higher levels of sound, and should therefore considerably reduce the duration of exposure. For example, exposure to noise levels of 100 dB, which is typical in such venues, is safe for no more than 15 minutes. Teenagers and young people can better protect their hearing by keeping the volume down on personal audio devices, wearing earplugs when visiting noisy venues, and using carefully fitted, and, if possible, noisecancelling earphones/headphones. They can also limit the time spent engaged in noisy activities by taking short listening breaks and restricting the daily use of personal audio devices to less than one hour. With the help of smartphone apps, they can monitor safe listening levels. In addition they should heed the warning signs of hearing loss and get regular hearing check-ups. Governments also have a role to play by developing and enforcing strict legislation on recreational noise, and by raising awareness of the risks of hearing loss through public information campaigns. Parents, teachers and physicians can educate young people about safe listening, while managers of entertainment venues can respect the safe noise levels set by their respective venues, use sound limiters, and offer earplugs and ―chill out‖ rooms to patrons. Manufacturers can design personal audio devices with safety features and display information about safe listening on products and packaging. Smartphones have become an inseparable part of our daily life: we communicate through them, travel with them, eat with them and do lots of other things using them. As we all know, cellphones can make and receive telephone calls over a radio link while moving around a wide geographic area. In addition to telephony, modern mobile phones also support a wide variety of other services such as SMS, email, Internet access, Bluetooth, business applications, gaming and more. To do that, cell phones use electromagnetic radiation in the microwave range. The enormous increase in mobile phone, especially smartphone, usage throughout the world has initiated numerous studies on its effect on human health. “Cell phone usage and men’s erectile dysfunction: a short communication.” The results of recent study that were published by Badereddin and co–workers in the Central European Journal of Urology present an extremely big interest. The article is titled ―Cell phone usage and men’s erectile dysfunction: a short communication.‖ Although, the authors themselves confess that the value of this study may be impaired with the small number of participants (there were 30 men involved), it was carefully concluded and very well documented.

Two demographically similar groups of men were questioned: • 20 men suffering from erectile dysfunction diagnosed using the International Index of Erectile Function • 10 men not having any erectile problems Those two groups of men were compared in terms of total talking and carrying time. Erection is a complex process of neurovascular physiological reactions, which can be interfered by many neural, vascular, hormonal, and psychological factors. However, the researcher found that differences between two small studied groups were at the level of significance. It was shown that the total TIME OF EXPOSURE to the radiofrequency emitter is much more important than the DURATION OF CALLS: • The men suffering from erectile dysfunction carried their switched off cellphones in the pockets for 4 and more hours a day. • The men without ―men’s health‖ problem carried their mobile devices for 2 hours a day or less. The ―talking‖ time was almost the same. So, carry your smartphone far away from the “organ in question”, and use hands–free sets wherever possible – just in case.

Smartphones and thermal effects Thermal effect of microwave radiation is wellunderstood: it happens due to the fact that any dielectric material is heated by rotations of polar molecules induced by the electromagnetic field. If a person uses a cellphone, most of the heating effect will occur at the surface of the head, causing its temperature to increase by a fraction of a degree (similar to obtained during the exposure of the head to direct sunlight). The brain’s blood circulation is capable of disposing of excess heat by increasing local blood flow. However, the cornea of the eye does not have this temperature regulation mechanism and can cause some health problem. Smartphones and cancer Although many studies showed no increased risk of cancer connected to the cellphone radiation, the International Agency for Research on Cancer classified cellphone radiation as Group 2B – possibly carcinogenic. Smartphones and electromagnetic hypersensitivity Some smartphone users have reported feeling several unspecific symptoms during and after its use; ranging from burning and tingling sensations in the skin of the head and extremities, fatigue, sleep disturbances, dizziness, loss of mental attention, reaction times and memory retentiveness, headaches, tachycardia, to disturbances of the digestive system. Reports have noted that all of these symptoms can also be attributed to stress. A number of researchers have found significant effects on sleep.

To be honest with you, the majority of studies show no definite causative relationship between exposure to smartphones radiofrequency radiation & harmful biological effects in humans. The World Health Organization stated that cell phone use may possibly represent a long-term health risk. So far, there is no direct and clear answer still, mostly because these studies have failed to be replicated. Do you think fat is bad for your health? Think again! High-fat diet postponing brain aging New Danish-led research suggests that signs of brain aging can be postponed in mice if placed on a high-fat diet. In the long term, this opens the possibility of treatment of children suffering from premature aging and patients with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The research project is headed by the Center for Healthy Aging, University of Copenhagen and the National Institute of Health. When we get older, defects begin to develop in our nervous system, our brain loses some of its intellectual capacity, and the risk of developing diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s increases. Alzheimer’s disease is currently the fastest-growing age-related disease. Throughout our lives, it is important that our cells – to the extent possible – keep our DNA undamaged, and, therefore, the cells have a system that repairs the damage that occurs all the time. Humans age when the repair system ceases to function. In diseases such as Alzheimer’s, the researchers also see damage to the DNA This new research project has studied mice having a defect in their DNA repair system. In humans, this defect causes the disorder Cockayne syndrome, where patients prematurely age as children and die at an age of 10-12 years. The study shows that placing a mouse model of Cockayne syndrome on a high-fat diet will postpone aging processes such as impaired hearing and weight loss.

The researchers see a particular positive effect when the mice are given the so-called medium chain fatty acids – e.g. from coconut oil Fat putting a stop to premature ageing ―The study is good news for children with Cockayne syndrome, because we do not currently have an effective treatment. Our study suggests that a high-fat diet can postpone aging processes. A diet high in fat also seems to postpone the aging of the brain. The findings therefore potentially imply that patients with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease in the long term may benefit from the new knowledge,‖ says Professor Vilhelm Bohr from the Center for Healthy Aging, University of Copenhagen and the National Institute of Health, who has headed the study. Our brain has a constant need for fuel in the form of either sugar or so-called ketones. Ketones are the brain’s fuel reserve, and, in particular, play an important role in periods of low blood sugar levels, e.g. if you are fasting. This is because the body breaks down fat if it needs sugar, and during this process it produces ketones. The researchers see a particular positive effect when the mice are given the so-called medium chain fatty acids – e.g. from coconut oil. Brain cells need extra fuel ―In cells from children with Cockayne syndrome, we have previously demonstrated that aging is a result of the cell repair mechanism being constantly active. It eats into the resources and causes the cell to age very quickly. We therefore hope that a diet with a high content of coconut oil or similar fats will have a beneficial effect, because the brain cells are given extra fuel and thus the strength to repair the damage,‖ says postdoc Morten Scheibye-Knudsen from the National Institute of Health. The study has just been published in the recognized scientific journal Cell Metabolism. The research project is supported by the Nordea-fonden through the Center for Healthy Aging. http://news.ku.dk/all_news/2014/11/httphealthsciences.ku.dknews news2014high-fat-diet-postponing-brain-aging/

Travelling to the Caribbean? Beware of mosquito-borne Chikungunya virus

Prepared by Olga Ryjkova Toronto Life Insurance Broker www.InsurancesToronto.ca Thousands of Caribbean vacationers and tens of people in Florida have gotten the Chikungunya virus from mosquito bites. After visiting French Polynesia, Lindsay Lohan was hospitalized for contracting Chikungunya during this winter holiday season. So, if you don’t want to come back home with an undesirable souvenir, read this important information about mosquito-borne Chikungunya virus. Since it spread from Asia and Africa in late 2013, Chikungunya has infected a million people in the Caribbean, Latin America and parts of South America and Mexico. The word ―chikungunya‖ means ―that which bends up‖, referring to the contorted posture of people affected with the severe joint pain and arthritic symptoms associated with this disease. The infection features sudden onset fever usually lasting two to seven days, and joint pains typically lasting weeks or months but sometimes years. The virus is passed to humans by mosquitos. Animal hosts of the virus include monkeys, birds, cattle, and rodents. Vaccine and Treatment Currently, no approved vaccines and no specific treatment are available. Although no specific treatment is known, but medications can be used to reduce symptoms. Rest and fluids may also be useful.

Signs and Symptoms The incubation period is typically 3-7 days, but could be up to 12 days. Symptoms include sudden fever usually above 39oC and strong joint pain. Typically, the fever lasts for two days and then ends abruptly. Rash, muscle pain, headache, insomnia, fatigue, nausea or vomiting and inflammation of the eyes may also be present. The symptoms, like pain in your ankles, knees or fingers, come and go. You never know when it may happen. Prevention The best means of prevention is overall mosquito control and the avoidance of mosquito bites. These include using insect repellents with substances such as DEET. Wearing bite-proof long sleeves and trousers also offers protection. Securing screens on windows and doors will help to keep mosquitoes out of the house. However, this will have only a limited effect, since many contacts between the mosquitoes and humans occur outside. Be alert for symptoms when you get home. You may have to explain them to your doctor, who may be hearing about chikungunya disease for the first time. http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/Chikungunya-Virus-SickensMore-Travelers-291040621.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chikungunya http://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/celebrity/lindsay-lohanhospitalized-for-rare-untreatable-virus/ar-AA8rppQ?ocid=answw11

The city is home to more than 1.2 million people. Prague is one of the most beautiful European cities, and Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world. In 1992 Prague became a World Heritage Site of the UNESCO. The Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world (570m long, on average 128m wide, area 7.28ha) that was constructed in the 9th century. The St Vitus Cathedral is the impressive structure in late-Gothic style. Its first foundation stone was laid in 1344 by Emperor Charles IV. The Church of St Nicholas (1735), originally a church of a Benedictine Monastery, now belongs to the Czech Hussite Church. Being the scene of great events, both glorious and tragic, the Old Town Square (1.7ha) has been Prague's heart since the 10th century and its main market place until the beginning of the 20th century. The Astronomical Clock (1410) is one of the square’s most notable places. It is composed of three main components: 1) the astronomical dial, representing the position of the Sun and the Moon in the sky and displaying various astronomical details; 2) "The Walk of the Apostles", a clockwork hourly show of figures of the Apostles and other moving sculptures; 3) a calendar dial with medallions representing the months. Today, the Old Town Square offers visitors numerous restaurants, cafés, shops and galleries. The Charles Bridge, as the only means of crossing the river Vltava, used to be the most important connection between the Old Town, the Prague Castle and the adjacent areas until 1841. The bridge is 650 years old. Its construction begun in 1357 at 5:31a.m.The astronomers of the court of Charles IV chose the numbers 1 3 5 7 9 7 5 3 1 or 1357 on the ninth day of the seventh month at 5:31am as the most suitable and lucky date for the laying of the bridge's foundation stone. The numbers are symmetrical and remain the same in the reverse order i.e. no matter whether read from left to right or right to left. The bridge was built not only on a special date but with special "ingredients"; eggs, milk, and some legends even say flour and wine were added to the mortar to bind the stone blocks. The bridge is 516m long and nearly 10m wide, resting on 16 arches. It is protected by three bridge towers, and one of them, the Old Town bridge tower, is often considered to be one of the most astonishing civil gothic-style buildings in the world. The bridge is decorated by a continuous alley of 30 statues and statuaries, most of them baroque-style, erected around 1700. The Old – New Synagogue built in the 13th century is one of the most valuable Jewish historical buildings in Europe. It is one of the oldest European synagogues still serving its purpose. Originally, women were permitted to enter it only on their wedding day; an annex for women was added later. Just during two weeks you can heal your body, relax and visit a fairytale city – Prague!

Louise Hay “You can heal your life”

Biography Hay recounted her life story in an interview with Mark Oppenheimer of the New York Times in May 2008. In it Hay stated that she was born in Los Angeles to a poor mother who remarried Louise’s violent stepfather. She recounted that when she was about 5, she was raped by a neighbor. At 15 she dropped out of high school without a diploma, became pregnant and, on her 16th birthday, gave up her newborn baby girl to be adopted. She moved to Chicago, where she worked in low paying jobs. In 1950 she moved on again to New York. At this point she changed her name and began a career as a fashion model. She was successful at this, working for Bill Blass, Oleg Cassini and Pauline Trigère. In 1954 she married the English businessman Andrew Hay, but went on to tell how, after 14 years of marriage, she was devastated when he left her for another woman. About this time she found the First Church of Religious Science on 48th Street, that taught her the transformative power of thought. Hay revealed that here she studied the New Thought works of authors like Florence Scovel Shinn, who claimed that positive thinking could change people’s material circumstances, and the Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes, who taught that the body could be healed through positive thinking. By Hay’s account in the early 1970s she became a Religious Science practitioner.

You really can. Having an optimistic attitude in every situation in your life attracts positive changes and increases achievement. Positive thinking employs a state of mind that continues to seek, find and execute ways to win, or find a desirable outcome, regardless of the circumstances. It opposes negativity, defeatism and hopelessness. A positive mental attitude is developed by constant reinforcement of your goals, positive values and beliefs. Learning to control your emotions is a key part to developing and maintaining positive mental attitude so as to expel the negative thoughts and feelings that could influence your actions and behavior. One technique for positive reinforcement is with the use of “self-talk” in a form of affirmation.

In this role she led people in spoken affirmations, which she believes will cure their illnesses, and became popular as a workshop leader. She also studied Transcendental Meditation with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at the Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa. Hay described how in 1977 or 1978 she found she had cervical cancer, and how she came to the conclusion that by holding on to her resentment for her childhood abuse and rape she had contributed to its onset. She reported how she had refused conventional medical treatment, and began a regime of forgiveness, coupled with therapy, nutrition, reflexology and occasional enemas. She claimed in the interview that she rid herself of the cancer by this method, but declared that there is no doctor left alive who can confirm this story, while swearing to its truth.

In 1984, Louise Hay established Hay House Publishing Firm. It took few years before Hay House had its roots grounded. In 1988 Reid Tracy joined the company as an accountant. The business flourished and attracted several writers. Now Hay House is the primary publisher of books and audio books by Deepak Chopra and Doreen Virtue, as well as many books by Wayne Dyer. Hay House also publishes the teachings of Abraham, channeled through Esther Hicks. Along with many others, Hay House Inc. is accounting for over 130 authors. In addition to running her publishing company, Hay runs a charitable organization called the Hay Foundation, which she founded in 1985. In 2008, a movie about Louise Hay’s life was released, titled You Can Heal Your Life. In Louise’s own words from the movie’s official website: ―This movie is the story of my life, my teachings, and how I’ve applied the principles of my teachings to my own life.‖ The movie also features Gregg Braden, Wayne Dyer, Gay Hendricks, Esther & Jerry Hicks, and Doreen Virtue; it was directed by Emmy Award winning Director Michael Goorjian. In the same year Louise Hay had been presented with Minerva Award at The Women’s Conference. In September 2011, Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson released their book ―You Can Create an Exceptional Life‖. Affirmations Affirmations refer primarily to the practice of positive thinking-fostering a belief that “a positive mental attitude supported by affirmations will achieve success in anything.” More specifically an affirmation is a carefully formatted statement that should be repeated to one’s self and written down frequently. For an affirmation to be effective, it needs to be present tense, positive, personal and specific. It works! We can give you many examples, and the life of Louise Hay is just one of them.

Affirmations from Louise Hay There are so many great affirmations from Louise Hay to choose from, just to name a few: • “I love myself, therefore, I behave in a loving way to all people for I know that which I give out returns to me multiplied.” • “I only attract loving people in my world for they are a mirror of what I am.” • “I am open and receptive to all the good and abundance in the Universe.” • “Today is a delightful day. Money comes to me in expected and unexpected ways.” • “I lovingly do everything I can to assist my body in maintaining perfect health.”

Burn Calories, Not Your Money

Ontario Government offers tips to consumers joining a gym: If you are considering joining a gym or fitness club in 2015, here are some tips from Consumer Protection Ontario to help you make smart choices, spend wisely and protect your hard-earned money: • Before you sign up, ask for a free trial or day pass before making a final decision. • Talking to club members about the facility can also provide you with good insight. • If you decide to move forward, read the entire contract, including the small print. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, especially if you’re unsure of what is and is not included in the membership, such as towel service, pool, and use of a locker. • You are entitled to a 10-day cooling off period after you sign the contract in case you change your mind and want to cancel the membership. • Understand your payment options so you get the best deal. You can choose to pay monthly. The gym must offer you the option of paying membership and any initiation fees in monthly installments. • If you cancel your membership, do it in writing and then hand-deliver the letter or send it via registered mail. • After cancelling, remember to tell your bank to stop automatic withdrawals from your account. http://news.ontario.ca/mgs/en/2015/01/burn-calories-not-your-money.html

Quick Facts • Close to 16% of Canadians belong to a fitness club or gym. • According to Public Health Agency of Canada, the health benefits of regular physical activity and positive social interaction for adults can help reduce the risk of over 25 chronic conditions. This includes coronary heart disease, stroke, hypertension, breast cancer, colon cancer, type-2 diabetes and osteoporosis.
