From the Service Captains From the Sports Captains
In 2021 we were given the opportunity to be the Service Captains of the Junior School. This has been a great opportunity for both of us and it has helped us grow. It has been an honour to be the Service Captains, and we have learnt so much. When we began the year in our roles, we were both nervous. We had talked in front of our class only a few times before, and now we had to speak in front of the entire Junior School! But after a while we got used to it, and it became natural for us to speak in public. If we hadn’t participated in Chapel, we would never be as good at public speaking as we are. As Service Captains, we don’t just assist at Chapel. We have had the privilege of organising many activities. The first time we did this was at Thrive in 5. At this event, we helped the Year 4s play some games so that they could familiarise themselves with the other new people who they would be with next year. All the students were able to find out something new about each other and met many new people at this event. We also assisted with the Wellbeing Day, where we had to set up a mindfulness activity, and run it to a certain class. These opportunities have not only been enjoyable, but also a valuable learning experience. We have been able to achieve many things, but none of this would have been possible without the support of the leadership team and Mr Wong. And Chapel wouldn’t have been the same without Reverend Liz and Reverend Helen. Thank you to everyone; it has been an amazing experience!
Chloe Kent and Nishaan Sunner Year 6 Now that the year 2021 is ending, we are grateful for the sport opportunities offered by the College. We were privileged to take on this leadership position, and we are grateful to have seen everyone’s sportsmanship improve over the course of the year. This year, we’ve witnessed many spectacular races, from our College’s very own pool to the lovely tracks provided by the maintenance men. It’s great that everyone was so enthusiastic and cheered each other on. Congratulations to Forrest for winning both Spirit cups as well!
“Every professional starts as a beginner and never stops
practising.” – Callum Johnston
This quote is intended to remind us and everybody else that no one will start off perfect at every sport. You can’t just have talent for a sport and yet not practise at all: that will get you nowhere. It often reminds both of us that if we ever try something new, we should always remember that nobody is perfect from the start.
“Callum, that was a travel” – Mr Wong What’s the difference between time and a ball hog? Answer: Time passes.
It was lovely to see so many happy smiles at this year’s carnivals, which were a huge success, and it’s excellent that everybody competed and gave it a shot. This year, because the weather refused to cooperate, we are grateful for everyone’s flexibility for the Athletics Carnival. Being the 2021 Sports Captains has been the experience of a lifetime, and we most certainly know that we will treasure these moments sincerely. 2021 has flown by so fast. Since we joined this College we both looked up to our Sports Captains, and knew that was the leadership position for us. We wish the best for next year’s Sports Captains. Never be afraid to show your enthusiasm! If you like water, then you’ll like 72% of me!
