Choosing the Perfect Dubai Villa

A Guide to Dubai Villas

A villa is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as “A large and luxurious country house in its own grounds”.

While the villas you can expect to find in Dubai aren’t strictly “country houses”, they are certainly large and luxurious, with interior fittings such as marble staircases, chandeliers, designer kitchen cabinets and top-spec fitted bathrooms. These homes also offer double garages and generous gardens, often with their own, temperature-controlled swimming pools.

If you are searching for a Dubai villa for sale or rent, you’ll be able to choose from detached or semi-detached villas, presented in a range of architectural styles, from cutting edge contemporary to more traditional, heritage-inspired designs. Properties may have between 3 to 12+ bedrooms, with internal dÊcor ranging from high-end comfort to outrageous opulence.

Contemporary styling with a heritage feel Dating from the late 19th century, Dubai’s original architecture was an eclectic mix of Indian, Iranian and Islamic styles. Factors such as the hot, humid climate, the religious and social customs of the people and the kind of building materials available dictated the type of houses that were built, until the oil boom turned Dubai from a fishing port to a thriving modern city of skyscrapers.

While huge towers continue to rise in downtown Dubai, planners have taken a different attitude when it comes to suburban housing. In suburban areas, where careful landscaping and irrigation is used to reduce the fierce desert heat, it has seemed a natural choice for developers to hark back to historic designs and you’ll find most of the contemporary villas here reflect historic Spanish, Islamic, north African and Mediterranean styles.

Choosing the right look While finding a suitable location is likely to be the first thing on your mind when searching for a Dubai villa to rent or buy, your next big concern will be the look and feel of your new home.

Choosing the right look Architectural styles often vary within a single development, with each separate housing cluster laid out in a different design. For example the “Quortaj” villas on the Al-Furjan development have typically Islamic features that include archways, shaded balconies and intricate detailing above windows and doors, while the “Dubai” design on the same estate is much more linear, with the distinctive square outlines you might find in an ancient Egyptian temple. Internally both villa styles offer high quality tiled floors, marble staircases with wrought iron detailing, shaded balconies and highspec fitted kitchens: a 3-bed villa here, located within the Jebel Ali community zone, will cost just over 4m AED.

If you like a more contemporary look, Tecom’s Villa Lantana project offers properties in a fresh, modern style, with floor to ceiling windows to maximise natural light, intelligent use of space and superbly fitted kitchens at prices between 3.2 million AED and 3.3m AED for a three-bed detached villa and 3.05m AED and 3.1m AED for a semi-detached villa.

With so many different options available, you can’t fail to find a villa that’ s the perfect match for your tastes and lifestyle.
