EYELINER

HOW TO BECOME AN EYE MAKEUP SPECIALIST

• •

With the right tools and techniques, anyone can become their own makeup artist and create the perfect stand out eyes.

To make sure that your eyeliner pops make sure to apply the liner after the eye shadow. The thickest part of the line should always be on the outside corner of the eye, while the thinnest part is at the inner corner. This trick visually lifts the eye and highlights your eye shape. Make sure that you can see the top line when your eye is open. If not, the line is too thin. This is especially important on deep set eyes and Asian eyes. If you also line the bottom lash line, remember that it should be a much softer line tab on your upper lid.

MASCARA

Every woman should know how to do an easy, classic eye using two shadows that work with their skin tone. Pair this eye shadow look with liner and mascara and you will always look pretty and amazing.

• •

For a basic eye, always start with start with a light shadow as your base. This should lighten your lid and be almost, but not quite invisible. You want to go with a colour that enhances your natural skin tone without looking too ashy, pink or grey. Women with fair skin should look for white or bone shades, while women with darker complexions should choose banana or peachy toned shadows. For starters:

If you have redness around your eyes, stay away from shadows with red or purple undertones as these colours will exacerbate the redness. For a fool proof eye, layer shadows from light to dark. Start with the palest shadow as the base, then next apply a medium shade, and finish off with the darkest shade last. Powder shadows are great for beginners. They blend more easily than cream shadows and are easy to correct if you make a mistake. Cream shadows allow for a denser application. There are no rules for how many shadow collars you need to create a beautiful eye. Sometimes one amazing colour is all you need.

Always curl lashes before applying mascara. Too avoid smearing mascara, make sure there isn’t too much moisture on your lid or underage area. If you are using a cream shadow or a gel or ink liner, make sure that the makeup has dried before you coat your lashes. Always set your concealer with a powder do the area under the eye is dry. When taking off mascara with a cotton pad always blot - don’t rub. This will help avoiding lashes top fall out. Replace mascara every three to six months to avoid bacteria buildup, which can lead to eye infections. Don’t share mascara wands with others - this can cause eye infection if bacteria is being passed around from eye to eye.

Light brown eyes are the most versatile and look gorgeous with a wide range of shadows and colours. Choose medium browns in either warm or cool tones to bring out your eyes. For a fool proof look, go with brown or bronzy shadows. Black plum, navy or a dark brown liner will enhance the colour of your eyes.

White, light-grey and lavender are the perfect cool tones to make blue and gray-blue eyes pop. Champagne or pale sparkles also look great. Navy and black liners will intensify the blue in your eyes even more.

Brown shadows always work with deep-blue eyes, but slate greats and light purple shades will make your eyes look more exotic. Midnight blue and black liner will really define your eyes.

Hazel eyes are the chameleons of eye colour. Bronzes, greens, or soft browns will all look beautiful. Fracesca Allen HOW TO GET THE LUSH LOVE ISLAND SUMMER MAKEUP AND HAIR

F

Talking Summer Beauty don’t show the branding. An aspect that I found very exciting was that there was also free products for us to choose from in partnership with Love Island. I was ecstatic to try all these new products.

rom as early on as I can remember, I was always fascinated with the process of doing my hair and makeup and feeling good knowing that I look great. Growing up in Essex, glam was always a talking point within our friendship circles. During my time on Love Island, I created the perfect recipe on how to look good in the heat and conquer obstacles like making sure that my hair stayed in place during the filming of the show and how to deal with the heat and makeup successfully.

There are certain products that I really couldn’t live without during my time on Love Island and now these products have become part of my beauty routine during the summer. I’ve grown to love the Iconic prep set and glow spray. I love it. Whenever I go on holiday it’s a must-have. I’m literally glistening in the sunshine. It’s the best thing ever! A Huge necessity in the summer is also a tinted moisturiser - my favourite is the one from Laura Mercier. Something you always need to remember during the summer is that less is more. It’s hard to control a caked up face in the high temperatures of the summer. Light make up is key! A huge necessity is a factor 50 SPF base. Its incredibly important to keep the skin on your face healthy - you’ll thank yourself later as this one step helps keep skin looking healthy and wrinkle-free for longer. My go-to SPF cream is from La Roche Posay 50+SPF. When going out in the summer remember to always carry a powder with you. Therefore when your skin starts to get a bit greasy in the heat you can pat on some powder and look and feel fresh again! My favourite is the Charlotte tilbury one. It’s incredibly light and efficient.

My time on Love Island wasn’t as long as most, however, in that short time I created memories and friends that I will remember forever. I was on season six of Love Island, in 2019 and I spent 2 weeks overall on the show. In the course of my time on the show, there were definitively many ups and downs and emotions can run high sometimes in the house. Behind the scenes, we are constantly taking directions from the production teams and we are overwhelmingly being watched. This pressure to always look my best and follow instructions on the tv show was a nerve-racking experience - however, the most exciting moments make it all worth it. My highlight during the time on the show was definitely when Ana and Jordan talked about their feelings towards one another - so to celebrate the moment we all decided to jump in the pool. I remember thinking about my makeup and wether my mascara was running down my face as I climbed out of the pool.

Now let’s talk hair, something used to struggle with a lot in the heat. So my hair is naturally really curly - it never stays the way I’ve blowdried it. However, I have discovered and totally fallen in love with the Wow Hair Dream Coat. It’s so easy

The process of bringing in our makeup and hair products is a bit of a strange experience. When we arrive at the Love Island secondary house our suitcases are revised and certain items are taken away - In my case, they only took away my hairdryer as there are already hairdryers provided for us in the Love Island house. These products are provided in special brand collaborations therefore, we must use them. As for the makeup, we are free to bring in as many products as we like, however, we are instructed to place special stickers over all our makeup products so that we

Talking Summer Beauty to use: you just spray it on your hair whilst its damp and then blow dry it. Say goodbye to frizzy hair this summer after using this product. Aside from the antifrizz quality of the products It makes it incredibly shiny too. Definitely another major advantage!

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 £35.00

Looking at the future where sustainability has become more important than ever I think it would be important for a show like Love Island to encourage conscious decisions with the products we use and how we use them. I think it would be incredible for Love Island to partner up with beauty companies that make important efforts to promote eco-friendly beauty for example Lush Cosmetics or even Oblique Makeup. Another way they could promote this behaviour would be to offer a recycling program within the house, for example having a waste bucket specifically for empty bottles and makeup palettes. I remember when I was on the show and I had finished my mascara tube and I just disposed of it in the normal bins. However, when I’m at home I make a conscious effort to recycle properly. I also think it would be a good idea for Love Island to wash out towels and bedsheets once every two days rather than every day. Recently I have also become very familiar with using recyclable cotton pads. These are simple to use - once you use them to remove your makeup you can simply put them in the washing machine or even wash them by hand and re-use them as many times as you like. It would be an amazing step if on Love Island they promoted products like these!

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 £18

ICONIC London, Prep-Set-Glow £22

Looking towards the future of the world after the Coronavirus, I think it will change the way that we shop and what we look for in our beauty products. In my opinion, after spending so much time at home I’ve realised what products are the most important to my daily routine, therefore, when shopping for makeup I think I will now only spend on necessities rather than wants. I believe that Coronavirus is gonna be around for a long time, and it will definitely change the casting process of Love Island. I heard that they will make sure that you have COVID-19 antibodies to be allowed into the house. But I think this will only apply this summer or at least whilst the virus is around.

Up And Coming Beauty Company

Lols Love MEET LOLS LOVE, THE UP AND COMING 100% COLD PRESS OIL COMPANY ALLURE LOOKS IS KEEPING THEIR EYE ON.

From the UK but living in the South of Spain, meet Laurie Tushia - the founder of Lols Love. After spending her life ahead of the health trends, you can find her practising all different kinds of natural home beauty remedies.

What brought to creating Lols Love?

Throughout my whole life, I’ve never found a product that was 100% true to their label. With age, I have began to notice how important and sensitive skin is. I’ve noticed how specific and careful you have to be with what you put on your face. I got fed up with everything available on the market and the ridiculously high prices that come with better quality - and thats when I decided to pursue an oil course and that way I was able to fully understand the compounds and the benefits of proper skin care. How did you come up with the name Lols Love? Throughout my life everyone has always called me Lol or Lollypop. I also felt the word ‘Love’ was appropriate because I really poured my whole heart into creating these products. June 2020

What kind of products should we expect from your brand once it launches?

Without overwhelming the consumer - (as most brands do) we are starting with a small range, consisting of day and night facial oil for both young and mature skin. The young skin, has been refined and perfected, with multiple attempts of trial and error. As for the mature skin, my friend and I too have been testing out to find the perfect recipe that works for everyone - making

Up And Coming Beauty Company sure the oils are not too greasy but yet still feel rejuvenating. I am currently playing around with creating the most hydrating mens oil, as I also feel that mens skin care is just as important as women’s. I will also eventually expand to body and lip oils as these too are products I struggle to be satisfied with in the current market.

Where do you source you raw materials from?

I have worked really hard to find the best sourcing of oils from the most natural produces across Europe. Using pure and raw materials is something that I always kept in mind when I decided to create my company. After thoroughly investigating the best materials to use, I found that Morocco and Bulgaria can supply the most pure form of oil available in the market. Helping local suppliers is also important when sourcing materials therefore I use essences that I source from my area in the south of Spain. As for the bottles, I’m strict with using only untouched amber glass paired with pipettes that are created with recyclable plastic droppers. For the time being, as we’re a start up, all products are entirely made from home by my team and I. However, in the future I would love to expand and have my own workspace. This would allow me to continue to grow the company and meet the demand. Another aspect I will always keep in mind would be to ensure that we are as environmentally friendly as possible and keep our carbon footprint as low as we can.

Gua Sha

chemicals or harmful substances. Also not many other company’s out there today are fully cruelty free, gluten free, vegan, sustainable, Phthalate-Free and non toxic - this is something I really triumph over. One of my favourite things about the oils is the use of prickly pear; a natural botox that is not yet a popular ingredient in most facial oils but has major advantages.

What products do you recommend to use simultaneously with your products?

My favourite tool is the Gua sha, it has many benefits and What sets you apart from other brands on the market? helps promote circulation in the In the simplest way possible to face and enhances your bone explain, we only use 100% pure structure. My goal is to create Cold Press oils without any artificial my own tool eventually. Another method is suction cups, they June 2020

Once Lols Love is launched and on the shelves, we are proud to announce that we will be giving it out in our Allure Beauty box . We are also excited to say that this company is in the running for our 2020 Allure beauty expert award.

Up And Coming Makeup Artists

LUCY BRIDGE “A BEAUTIFUL MESS”

Nominated this year by Business Of Fashions New Wave creatives, meet the makeup artist that is changing the traditional beauty standard with her extraordinarily unique and creative high fashion makeup looks. June 2020

12

Up And Coming Makeup Artists Lucy is constantly searching for inspiration that she interprets and transforms to present to the world with her artistic creations in her own style. Her individual technique works with a lot of colour to create vibrant and incredibly eye catching compositions. Lucy tells us about how her experiences also working within the modelling industry - as a plus sized model works to her advantage, as she is able to not only direct her work and push it to extraordinary final looks but meet her clients expectations during a shoot.

What’s your USP? “I like to think I’m fearless when it comes to make-up. I like to create super bold, unique looks and I’m not scared to use different mediums. Picasso is an inspiration for me, I know its a bit of a cliche, and I also love Marlene Dumas.” How would you describe the approach you have to your practice? I always want people to look at an image and know it was me who created it. This is very hard to achieve in a hugely oversaturated industry but I feel I have found my own style over the years and it is forever an evolving process. I do not want to get ‘stuck’ creating the same image time after time. I want to create work that excites people and has an impact on them. I love colour, bold defined lines and a sharpness to my work, however on the flip side I love a beautiful raw and natural skin mixed with something really effortless and easy on the eye. You have a very playful and beautiful approach to using colour – Do you remember when this style began? I have always loved colourful and bold make-up ever since I started studying it. I think because my personality is bold I lean towards this type of make-up. Experimenting with lines and tones is something I find the most interesting and it all depends on the canvas in front of me. When you are really inspired by a face your imagination can just go wild. I never go into a make-up look knowing exactly what I will do.
