PV modules of the best quality at reasonable prices, almost indestructible, producing a higher lifetime yield than any product in the market: These are the main properties of Almaden World Modules® - produced with pride in Dubai. What makes the Almaden World Module® unique? Their main advantage compared to conventional modules with a foil back sheet is the fact that they consist of 2 layers of thin hardened glass which makes them almost indestructible. Even loads of 450 kg/m² are carried without any cracks. You may not drive with a car over your modules every day, but heavy storms, hail, snowfall, ice and the enormous changes in temperatures which occur in rough climate areas are a constant threat for standard modules which have only a foil on the rear side. Conventional modules which are exposed to enormous forces will show microscopic cracks which will get larger over time. Through these cracks gradually moisture penetrates into the interior of the modules, causing them to fail. This is shown in the results of the luminescence tests on the following page below. In Almaden Glass/Glass modules, however, this failure does not occur, because the cells are located in the so-called “neutral intermediate ply“ protected by the 2 layers of safety glass. This innovative production principle strongly increases the lifetime of Almaden modules. Therefore they can be amortized for a period extending up to 50 years thus creating the highest yield of any module in the market.

Almaden modules made of laminated safety glass bear the highest loads: During the test shown in the picture a VW Passat drove on top of the module. During this experiment the module bent, but held the load. As a result, no cracks were visible on the glass surface.
The ability of bending tempered and laminated Almaden glass with embedded solar cells was also tested in a neutral laboratory under extremely harsh conditions:
The result is overwhelming: Even after an extreme deflection of 55 mm with 1000 cycles it doesn‘t lead to a breach of the glass and - even more amazing: there are no micro cracks and thus no performance limitations of the modules. This is illustrated in the two electroluminescence photos which show the results before (left) and after 1000 cycles.

Almaden modules are resistant against every kind of climate: Cold temperature with snow:
Low temperatures are prevailing in countries of the northern hemisphere but also during the night in desert areas. All materials have to withstand temperatures below 30°C as well as fast changes to high temperatures up to 85°C.
Desert climate:
Desert areas include very high temperatures of up to 85°C in the inside of the module. Temperatures change in fast cycles. In many cases the material doesn‘t withstand these changes over its lifespan of 30 – 50 years. As a result, Almaden modules loose very little power compared to other cells.
Salt water:
Salt and also air-borne chemicals are very aggressive and a threat to the modules materials. Glass is the first choice to withstand these threats.
Hot and humide climate:
Is a special threat to modules. A chemical reaction with most foils like EVA takes place and as a result citric acid builds up. Consequently, the temperature rises and the acid boils, which destroys the modules over months and years. Almaden established a unique technique in order to oppose these threats and protect the cells.

ALMADEN DESERT MODULES® Made in Dubai: The first World Module
Standard Modules not suitable for desert climate
Standard PV modules are made for regions with a moderate climate. They usually are made of one sheet of glass at the front side and a plastic sheet on the rear side. All tests e.g. from TUV are based on Standard Test Conditions (STC) which were developed in Germany more than 30 years ago and were therefore based on moderate weather conditions such as those found in Germany. Although the module temperature is above 25° C in most countries around the world, the tests are still based on this low temperature. Other test procedures include hail and snowloads, weather conditions which are rarely found in most countries. The resistance to sandstorms, very high temperatures and other weather conditions found in desert areas are not tested at all.
Special Almaden Solar Glass for Desert Modules
Almaden – a world market leader of Premium Solar Glass - has been working on special technologies for glass suitable for very rough climates with high temperatures for more than 10 years. This Premium glass is used for both sides of the Almaden desert modules. Starting in September 2015 these ALMADEN DESERT MODULES® are produced in Silicon Oasis® in Dubai and also tested in the new DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) test facility. Here in the desert people know best how to produce this superior quality which will be also tested in the region.
Almaden Desert Modules: Better performance & no failure in damp-heat tests A damp heat test is part of simulating how panels age. This damp-heat test increases the temperature to 85°C in combination with humidity of 85%. This process simulates 20 years’ time when the test is performed over 4,000 hours. As seen in the graph standard modules with plastic backsheet start to fail after 1,000 hours (simulating a period of only 16 years). Almaden panels can easily survive 4,000 hours in a damp heat test without any problems. This means that even in desert regions we can guarantee lifetimes of more than 30 years thus creating a huge financial advantage of more than 30 % (after considering the slightly higher costs). Not only are the power benefit and the longer lifetime major advantages of the Desert Technology, but also the fact that these panels can be used in regions where other panels simply will not work (Almaden Desert Modules® work at temperatures up to 125°C where other panels fail).

More power when it’s hot
The hotter the cell the less power comes from the panel. Because we know that every watt counts, we have developed a module and cell that will generate more wattage at the same nominal power. Normal PV panels have a temperature coefficient of about -0.5%/°C. Our specially optimized cells improve this coefficient by approx. 15 %, which leads to improved power generation. The result is shown in the graph below: A power benefit results which will increase with each degree of heat.
During the guaranteed lifetime, Almaden modules produce 100 % more power compared to competitors.

Since no drilling or welding is necessary, the installation can be carried out without any technical skills or special tools. The entire structure is made of anodized corrosion resistant aluminium. The connection parts are made of a special stainless steel with a high nickel content. The number of necessary connections is optimized. Therefore for smaller carports only 25 screws are necessary, for the large carports only about 50 screws. For all kits detailed documentation is supplied.
