HERE AT CHS, WE LEARN GERMAN WITH HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES. THE LANGUAGE LEVELS RANGE FROM GERMAN 1 TO GERMAN 4 AP.
INTRODUCTION
TOM C. CLARK HIGH SCHOOL OPENED IN 1978 WITH A GERMAN PROGRAM. THERE HAVE BEEN A TOTAL OF THREE GERMAN TEACHERS SINCE THE SCHOOLS OPENING. THE CURRENT GERMAN TEACHER IS FRAU TORRES FROM HANAU, GERMANY.

CLUB OFFICERS
GERMAN CLUB IS A STUDENT RUN ACTIVITY WITH FRAU TORRES AS THE SPONSOR. CLUB OFFICERS ORGANIZE EVENTS AND MEET WITH THE SPONSOR TO PLAN THE CLUB ACTIVITIES. MEETINGS ARE HELD IN THE MIDDLE OR TOWARDS THE END OF EACH MONTH.

THE CLUB
GERMAN CLUB IS MORE THAN JUST AN AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY. THE CLUB PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO BEYOND THE CLASSROOM AND TRANSCEND A TRADITIONAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE. STUDENTS OF ALL NATIONALITIES AND BACKGROUNDS COME TOGETHER TO NOT ONLY LEARN A LANGUAGE, BUT TO EXPERIENCE A CULTURE.

THE CLUB
DURING THE YEAR, STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECIEVE HANDS ON EXPERIENCE WITH GERMAN CULTURE. STUDENTS ARE ASSIGNED CULTURE PROJECTS FOR WHICH THEY COOK OR BAKE GERMAN FOOD.

THE CLUB
THIS YEAR’S CLUB THEME IS ‘REUSE AND RECYCLE’ . STUDENTS CREATED ORNAMENTS AND CRAFTS USING BIODEGRADABLE ITEMS AND MATERIALS. FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS CONTRIBUTED CULTURAL ITEMS SUCH AS THE PICKLE ORNAMENT AND SABER. IN ADDITION, CANSTRUCTION, A COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT, WAS HOSTED IN THE COURTYARD OF THE SCHOOL.

FIVE DAYS BEFORE THE NEXT CLUB MEETING, MEMBERS OF GERMAN CLUB AND STUDENTS IN GERMAN CLASS PARTICIPATED IN A FUNDRAISING ACTIVITY. THIS IS THE ADVERTISING FLYER.

FUNDRAISERS
STUDENTS GAVE UP 20 MINUTES OF THEIR RESPECTIVE LUNCH PERIODS IN ORDER TO HELP FRAU COOK AND SELL THE SAUSAGE WRAPS IN ORDER TO RAISE MONEY FOR CLUB ACTIVITIES.

GERMAN CLUB IS PLANNED AROUND AMERICAN AND GERMAN HOLIDAYS IN ORDER TO CELEBRATE THEM. THIS ALLOWS BOTH AMERICAN AND FOREIGN STUDENTS TO EXCHANGE CULTURAL CELEBRATIONS. THIS IS THE CLUB FLYER FOR THE EVENT.

IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 2013, IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE CLUB MEETING WOULD BE HALLOWEEN THEMED. GERMAN CLUB HOSTED A COSTUME PARTY.

DURING THE WEIHNACHTS SEASON, STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT MANY GERMAN TRADITIONS. CLUB OFFICERS AND FRAU TORRES POSE IN THE MIDDLE FOR A FUN AND FESTIVE GROUP PICTURE. STUDENTS REACT TO WHAT THEY RECIEVE THROUGH EXCHANGING GIFTS WITH ONE ANOTHER.

IN THE MONTH OF DECEMBER 2013, GERMAN CLUB HOSTED A CHRISTMAS PARTY AND INTODUCED THE CONCEPT OF A WHITE ELEPHANT GIFT EXCHANGE. THIS IS THE FLYER FOR THE EVENT.

WURSTFEST 2013 WAS LOCATED IN NEW BRAUNFELS. IT SHOWCASES GERMAN CULTURE IN THE FORMS OF ART, MUSIC, BAKING AND COOKING WITH A MINIATURE OUTDOOR AMUSEMENT PARK JUST FOR FUN. PHOTOS BY VIOLET FREY.

STUDENTS ATTEND THIS SUMMER TRIP IN ORDER TO CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION ABOUT GERMANS AND THEIR CULTURE. FRAU FEELS THAT THE BEST WAY TO LEARN IS TO BECOME IMMERSED IN THE CULTURE ITSELF. THE STUDENTS COUDN’T HAVE AGREED MORE.
