Heritage School creating a lasting legacy staff reporter The second most important decision you will make as a parent — apart from deciding to have a child in the first place — is deciding which school to enroll them in. Making the right decision will put them on a path toward lifelong learning, a prestigious college or university education and a successful career.

In Zimbabwe where private school education has become revered as the most reasonable way to go it is now critical to choose the right private school for your child. On Thursday I took a tour of the Heritage School situated in Borrowdale Brooke, Harare. The first thing that struck me was the park like surroundings of the school, after being guided to the reception I passed many excellent pieces of children’s artwork that adorned the walls. I was introduced to one of the Directors Mr Tom

Austin, we talked a little about the history of the school before I was given a tour, I was informed that they were only in their seventeenth year. The school really has done well in such a short time.

The school architecture is unique and each department has been purpose built for the children within its walls from the Infant department who start at 2 years old to the Senior department situated right at the top of the hill overlooking the entire campus. The school classrooms are also very well equipped in every section of the school.

What struck me the most as I was given my tour was how from the two year olds right through to the sixth formers each class entered the children stood up and in unison gave a clear “Good Morning Mr. Austin and your visitor!” (it gradually got faster as the children got

older.) It is so good to see that good manners are still an integral part of the education at this school.

The school is offering a coeducational education with a syllabus that takes the best from the British National Curriculum and the best from the Zimbabwean Curriculum this is producing well-rounded pupils/student’s who are ready for seamless incorporation into the big wide world. The school is living up without a doubt to the school motto “Alta Pete” – Aim High. The Heritage School has an excellent reputation and continues to top the lists for all examination boards both local and international and has several high achieving students whether it is in the arts or in the Sciences.

The school is also very proud of their sporting teams the Heritage Hornets as they also continue to achieve outstanding results.

Go places with a Secretarial qualification from Speciss One way to start your rise up the corporate ladder is by equipping yourself with a Secretarial qualification.

Mrs Janet Kahari, the Director of Studies at Speciss' Bulawayo Computer and Secretarial School (CASS) encourages students to take up a Secretarial course as it provides exposure to various aspects of the corporate world.

Mrs Rugare Nyashanu, a Secretarial Studies lecturer at the Chitepo CASS, says that modernday secretaries gain wide experience in a number of different areas as they have many duties to conduct.

Moneygram gives out $2 700 worth of school fees vouchers MoneyGram International, in conjunction with its local agents, has supported six families with school fees vouchers worth a total of $2 700.

The six recipients were randomly drawn from people who used the MoneyGram service between December last year and January this year. Tamudzai Muchero of Unit N Seke, received $1 000; while Learnmore Kamusvaba of Egypt, Highfield, received $750.

The other recipients were Grace Mhaka of Sunningdale, $500; Owen Tapiwa Chikonyora, Glen View 8, $250; Peter Dzikiti of Ruwa and Victoria Njagu of Norton who both received $100 each.

The school fees vouchers are expected to lessen the burden on the recipient six families given the harsh economic climate that has left thousands of families struggling to pay for their children's education.
