NetOne in the Community Since inception in 1996, NetOne has been an integral member of society giving back in many ways. The community is the lifeblood of the network as it constitutes the people who use the network to communicate with their beloved ones across the globe, in business and in their social lives. Mobile communications has reduced the cost of travel and has enormously transformed how we live our lives and conduct business. Even with the new type of communications called Machine to Machine or the so-called M2M, it is for the people for whom this new communications is intended. Thus, mobile communications is all about improving people’s lives. NetOne has played a leading role in human development with innovation in communications and also the widening of the scope of knowledge through providing Internet services on its network. Zimbabwe has a population of 13 million spread out geographically with 70% in rural communities and the remainder in major cities, towns and mines. NetOne has brought access to the Internet to the communities in homes, schools, businesses, government, mining, ICT industry and various other institutions. The mobile network is connected with the people in the rural areas, towns, tourist attractions, major highways, mining areas and cities to give convenience of communication. “It is our intention to proceed with our work in providing world class communication solutions working closely with individuals, groups and Government. From the money that is generated from the network, there are various commitments that have to be fulfilled like network expansion and even with limited resources, NetOne still finds a portion to share with the community to enhance the quality of life and the environment,” said NetOne Marketing & Sales Director, Mrs Memory Ndoro-Mandiya. There are various projects that NetOne has undertaken and continue to pursue in fulfilment of the social responsibility of the mobile network to fulfil this objective NetOne partnered with key stakeholders to assist in achieving these objectives. NetOne has partnered with key strategic stakeholders in realisation of these goals and objectives. One of these partnerships is the National Blood Services Zimbabwe which is under the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare to adequately resource them in their endeavour to collect, process and store blood. National Blood Services Zimbabwe “NetOne has sponsored the National Blood Services Zimbabwe since 2006, having bought caravans for them and also made sure that there is enough conscientisation on the need for blood in the medical system. One caravan is stationed
along First Street in Harare and a mobile one that visits schools and other towns to solicit for blood. NetOne sponsors a schools challenge for blood donation in all 10 provinces of Zimbabwe and this has borne fruit as 70% of blood donated is from schools,” she said. The 2012 national winner for the Easycall National Blood Donation Awards was Chirumba High School in Bikita. Other winning
schools from other provinces are: Chisipite Snr.
