The community is the lifeblood of the network as it constitutes the people who use the network to communicate with their beloved ones across the globe, in business and in their social lives. Mobile communications has reduced the cost of travel and has enormously transformed how we live our lives and conduct business. Even with the new type of communications called Machine to Machine or the so-called M2M, it is for the people for whom this new communications is intended. Thus, mobile communications is all about improving people’s lives. NetOne has played a leading role in human development with innovation in communications and also the widening of the scope of knowledge through providing Internet services on its network. Zimbabwe has a population of 13 million spread out geographically with 70% in rural communities and the remainder in major cities, towns and mines. NetOne has brought access to the Internet to the communities in homes, schools, businesses, government, mining, ICT industry and various other institutions. The mobile network is connected with the people in the rural areas, towns, tourist attractions, major highways, mining areas and cities to give convenience of communication. “It is our intention to proceed with our work in providing world class communication solutions working closely with individuals, groups and Government. From the money that is generated from the network, there are various commitments that have to be fulfilled like network expansion and even with limited resources, NetOne still finds a portion to share with the community to enhance the quality of life and the environment,” said NetOne Marketing & Sales Director, Mrs Memory Ndoro-Mandiya. There are various projects that NetOne has undertaken and continue to pursue in fulfilment of the social responsibility of the mobile network to fulfil this objective NetOne partnered with key stakeholders to assist in achieving these objectives. NetOne has partnered with key strategic stakeholders in realisation of these goals and objectives. One of these partnerships is the National Blood Services Zimbabwe which is under the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare to adequately resource them in their endeavour to collect, process and store blood. National Blood Services Zimbabwe “NetOne has sponsored the National Blood Services Zimbabwe since 2006, having bought caravans for them and also made sure that there is enough conscientisation on the need for blood in the medical system. One caravan is stationed

along First Street in Harare and a mobile one that visits schools and other towns to solicit for blood. NetOne sponsors a schools challenge for blood donation in all 10 provinces of Zimbabwe and this has borne fruit as 70% of blood donated is from schools,” she said. The 2012 national winner for the Easycall National Blood Donation Awards was Chirumba High School in Bikita. Other winning

schools from other provinces are: Chisipite Snr. School, Nagle House Girls High, Nemakonde High School, Ruya SDA High School, John Tallach High School, Mtshabezi High School, Premier High School, Sakubva 2 High School and Mutenderende High School. “Blood is life and so as a network we felt this would be a good cause to support. Think about the mothers in hospitals

giving birth needing blood or the accident victim who could use a pint of your blood,” she said with passion and vigor. Combating Software Piracy The Microsoft Genuine Software Initiative (GSI) is the overarching program that focuses the many activities and investments directed at combating software counterfeiting and other forms of software piracy into a single initiative. • GSI represents Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to protecting you and your customers from counterfeit software and other forms of software piracy. • The initiative will drive increasing investments across three strategic areas: Education, Engineering, and Enforcement.

supporting governments and law enforcement in taking action against software counterfeiters. • Thousands of reports filed with Microsoft have contributed directly to numerous civil actions against software pirates. Microsoft follows up on every lead! • Cooperation with online auction providers such as eBay have helped crack down on sales of counterfeit. Microsoft increased work with anti-spam services to filter and help prevent distribution of illegal spam advertising illegal Microsoft software.

Education • In our annual, World Wide system builder research survey, we asked how the OEMs/SBC want Microsoft to help fight piracy. The largest request was to provide more general education on piracy, and we are responding to that. • We are investing in educating partners about the benefits of genuine software through marketing campaigns and web sites such as http://www.howtotell. com. • Through these we are providing detailed information on how to recognize counterfeit software. • We created the Genuine Microsoft Software logo that can be used on any of the Microsoft-branded marketing materials we provide for you to use. We are also using this on end-customer marketing to drive awareness. • We also support associations like the Business Software Alliance, that help educate and enforce intellectual property rights.

Why does software piracy happen? • Intellectual property laws are either non-existent or not enforced • Tolerance of piracy by legislative bodies • Lack of enforcement for offenders • The misconception that piracy is legal • Societal acceptance of piracy • Ease of purchasing pirated software •Ease of copying software

Engineering – make piracy harder • Making it harder to pirate is the key goal behind the engineering focus of the Microsoft Genuine Software Initiative. • We are investing in anti-counterfeiting technologies and features, the Microsoft Genuine Advantage platform, and anti-counterfeiting features such as new Certificates of Authenticity and holographic CDs Compliance and enforcement • Through the Microsoft Genuine Software Initiative we are

Risk of Software Piracy • Risk of interruption to Business services due to system crashes and viruses. • Legal and regulatory exposure • Risk of damage to public image arising from any legal actions taken by government IPR enforcers • Risk to Business continuity • Loss of income for the government through tax evasion • Less interest to invest in high piracy countries from multinational software vendor companies •Negative impact on economic growth (lost employment opportunities, Government inability to invest in infrastructure, public service delivery, community programs, etc.)

Powertel Communications rebrands to move with times Imagine It, Live It! “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.”Charles Darwin For most corporates and individuals, the colours red and blue and the letters “PT” embedded within blue lines forming a hexagonal shape, have become synonymous with the face and identity of Powertel Communications. Since inception in 1999, Powertel Communications has mastered its dominance in the corporate sector, focusing on the provision of data communications infrastructure services through the use of cable, wireless and power line communications technologies. Over time companies like Powertel have come to accept the importance of branding in their business operations. Whilst it holds true that the Powertel Communications brand equity has increased with the passage of time, it is now apparent that the Powertel brand, now 13 years old, has also evolved. It is often said that change is the only constant in life, and the organisation has managed to live up to this adage. As great historian, Charles Darwin notes in his statement above, organisations that are most adaptable to change are the ones that will survive. Operating in a dynamic sector, Powertel realises the importance of being strongly adaptable to changing times and standing out from its competition. Powertel is thus pleased to announce the arrival of a new corporate identity, one involving a total transformation that revolves around merging the corporate wholesale products and consumer facing products to give a complete converged solution. These are as follows:• Connectivity Packages:- enabled through VPN (Virtual Private Networking) Logical link connections,

branch to branch connections, headoffice to branch connections, also including LAN and WAN connections • Gigalink Services (Carrier of Carriers); • Internet Bandwidth on a 1:1 contention, also offering Fibre to the Home & Office services; • Voice Services (say Hello to 08611) – a Voice over internet protocol (Voip) package • On the Go Internet (3G wireless modems (PowerConnect) &PowerConnect Turbo (Wifienabled). • Fibre To The Home Solutions • ISP business solutions • Enterprise solutions • And more value added services In addition to this wide array of innovative products, Powertel now offers a total solution for organisations, that is beyond the router services- WAN & LAN connectivity. The range of Value Added services (VAS) under the organisation’s portfolio includes Teleworking as well as Enterprise Resource Solutions. In the quest of improving the customer experience, Powertel introduced a 24 hour Call centre facility dealing with customer queries round the clock. The backbone of any IAP is extensive network coverage, thus, in 2013 alone, the organisation embarked on projects to increase the presence of base stations across the country in Harare, Gweru, Kadoma, Bulawayo, Norton, Kwekwe, Chinhoyi, Beitbridge, Gwanda, Victoria Falls, Hwange, Plumtree, and Mutare with the aim of improving network coverage and the browsing experience. In the near future, the company is looking at introducing more innovations such as telemedicine, next generation call centre and convenient payment solutions for customers. In that regard, as a first in the market, Powertel can now host other corporates call centres.

IP PBX System With diverse business communications features, built-in applications, and choice of fixed, mobile and advanced touch screen IP terminals, the Panasonic KX-NCP and KX-TDE Series provide a unified solution for businesses ad meet their single or multi-site communication needs today as well as in the future. Since this system supports IP networks it enables the communication environment to be flexibly expanded in accordance with corporate growth.
