THE CHRISTi.L',S CE:..0EJlATIOUS

On different occasions the Central Office has tried to have all the chapters hold somer1ho.t ·similar celebrations on or about the same date. Its suggestion for the last social gathering of 1915 was a Christmas Tree, and in preparation for that event it sen~ out the pretty legend of the camdle and the e~~lanation of its use on the tree. It was not possible for all the chapters to hold identical o.elebr~tions, because local conditions called for modifications, but ever1 chapter endeavored to have something of the trne Chri-Stmas spirit in oonneotion ~ith their last social gathering. In ~he case df'Alpha, there was an initiction on the 16th of December and, of oourse, the o~lebrat1on uhich folloued wos tbe time-honored banquet, but .even h~r~, us you uill see from the Chapter Letter, there was the Christmas thought uppermost · in the minds of the revellers. However, ~e uill let the different Chapter Hi~torians tell the story in · their own uords. ...UJ>HA

On Friday night, the l'lth, Alphn Chapter held one of the

In the · centre of the table uas o. smo.ll Christmas Tree, betiu:ttfully ·aecorcted with the customary trimmings and ad orne a oi th four 1 i ttle cundl'es • At each of the sixteen plntes were tvro Fhite roses and a little hand-painted place curd with a. big Sante on it and with A .s .!J.. v1ri tten across him in red. We were very sorry not to· be able to get our sorority flower for purposes of decorati·o n, but we 'found them unobtainable. , The menu was a delicious six course affair, be·a1!z.tffully served. After the banquet \79 vlent to the parlors, rrhere \7e popped our little prizes off the tree, finding in each an amusing conundrum and an attractive paper hat, or something of the kind. Our favors to the nevt girls \7ere Slllull gold bracelets \7i th A .s .A. on them. I 2.1ll sorry to say, ho\7ever, that they did not arrive in time for the ~anquet, as we had planned. lunong the sixteen present were Prof. EasAn, our honorary member, Miss Cox, Hend of the Home EconoFlics Department, three other facu~ty ~mbers, and Hattie Paulett, un alumna member. Everybody seemed to enjoy the affair thoroughly, and all our visitors remarked that it . uns one of the prettiest affairs they ha.d eV'er attended. '.Thlary Swain, Chapter Historian.
