VALMONT BIKE PARK BOULDER, CO

OVERVIEW

DIRT JUMPS

When it opened in June 2011,

Valmont Bike Park set the new standard for worldclass municipal bike park facilities. It also marked the culmination of more than three years of design and construction by Alpine Bike Parks. CYCLOCROSS RUN-UP

Valmont is composed of bike amenities designed by Alpine Bike Parks including a variety of Trail Features, Family Cycling Trails, Slopestyle and Dirt Jump Terrain Parks, multiple Pump Parks, and a Dual Slalom Racecourse. It also incorporates a UCI Cyclocross facility, and Cross Country Trails designed by IMBA - The international Mountain Bicycling Association. Valmont’s important precedents include its 42-acre size in an urban area, quality of construction, ease of access, variety of amenities, detail of finish, programming, landscaping, and engineering standards.

PODIUM

SIGNAGE

Alpine’s scope of work during design included site analysis, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documents, budget estimates, and preparation of tendering documents. Alpine also managed stakeholder meetings, and helped Valmont through a detailed and complex approval process with the City of Boulder. Many of the innovations that Alpine developed for Valmont (like engineered trail features, sediment-controloriented-landscaping, irrigation, and drainage) made the park’s development possible throughout a challenging municipal approvals process.

Following the design phase, Alpine Bike Parks won the construction bid and coordinated our own staff and subcontractors to carry out the field design and construction of this trendsetting facility. Throughout construction, Alpine was the contractor responsible for all bicycle amenities under the guidance of general contractor J2 Contracting of Greeley, CO. Trail Dynamics worked as our subcontractor to carry out incredible work on the cyclocross staircases and a selection of crosscountry trails.

CONSTRUCTION BEGINS

Holistic construction phasing is the key to efficiency during implementation. Bike parks contain specialty dirt mixes, trails, trail features, foundations, irrigation, drainage, landscaping and other site services. Phasing ensures that they are installed in the correct order.
