GIRO HISTORY Giro grundades 1985 i Santa Cruz, Kalifornien, och ingår numera i BRG Sports där även andra stora hjälmvarumärken som Bell, Riddell och Blackburn återfinns. En elementär del av Giro är det tighta samarbetet med åkare och atleter. Tack vare denna nära relation kan varumärket lära sig förstå deras behov och därmed utveckla innovativa produkter. Under OS i Sochi 2014 var Giros hjälmar och goggles representerade av inte mindre än 17 åkare från det internationella teamet och ett tiotal nationella åkare. Giros filosofi och grundtanke hämtas från surfing och andra livsstilssporter och målet är att attrahera marknaden med ödmjuk attityd och innovativa men säkra produkter som hjälper individen att fortsätta utvecklas. Inom BRG koncernen tillverkas mer är 12 miljoner hjälmar per år och detta stärker naturligtvis Giros konkurrenskraft då alla erfarenheter inom forskning och testning delas. Forskningsframsteg och innovationer från olika segment som cykel, amerikansk fotboll och lacrosse används kontinuerligt för produktutveckling av vinterdelen. Den strategiskt viktigaste nyheten för 1516 är att Giro köpt in sig i MIPS och därmed tar ett tydligt kliv för att ytterligare stärka sin position som ett varumärke med säkerhetsfokus. Det skall tilläggas att Giro genomfört egna interna tester och utredningar av funktionaliteten hos Mips under två års tid, innan man var övertygade och bestämde sig för att satsa på denna Svenska teknologi. Genom åren har Giro varit först med att introducera många av de mest framstående och innovativa teknologierna inom det alpina vintersegmentet: - In-Mold Construction. Giro var först med att introducerade denna hjälmkonstruktion för skid- och snowboardhjälmar redan 1999. In-Mold har revolutionerat hjälmbranschen och är idag den vanligaste typen av konstruktion. 2

- In Form Fit System. Giro var först med att på egen hand utveckla denna teknologi som erbjuder snabb och enkel justering av storlek och omfång. Med hög precision kan passformen justeras efter det unika huvudets form. På 2014 års kollektion ser vi version 12.0 av systemet. - Stack Ventilation. Dessa ventilationskanaler penetrerar hjälmens front och optimerar luftflödet runt pannan. Därmed ventileras varm luft och fukt från detta utsatta område och risken för imma på goggles minimeras. - Soft Shell Construction. - Återigen en revolutionerande teknologi signerad och patenterad av Giro. Målgruppen är åkare som upprepade gånger utsätter sig själv och sin hjälm för fall och slag. Grundtanken är att erbjuda en konstruktion som kontinuerligt absorberar inverkan från både små och stora krascher utan att hjälmen förstörs eller tappar sin skyddande förmåga. Denna ”multi impact” funktion bygger på två lager av stötabsorberande material i olika densitet närmast huvudet, vilka samverkar tillsammans med ett yttre flexibelt plastskal. Resultatet är en ultrakomfortabel och flexibel passform med supereffektiv stötupptagningsförmåga och ett slagtåligt ytterskal. - Go Pro Compatible Camera Mount. Med integrerat fäste erbjuds en snabbhanterlig och stabil lösning för Go Pro kameror. Efter användning görs infästningen osynlig. Mycket enkel hantering och lätt att ställa filmvinklar. - Trip Clip Helmet CarrySystem. Ny och unik lösning där man vid skidbestigning eller hiking enkelt fäster hjälmen på ryggsäcken med hjälp av den multifunktionella trip clip, vilken även fungerar som gogglehållare övrig tid. - Conform Fit Technology. ROTATIONAL FORCES can occur when your head is struck at an angle or rotates quickly and comes to a sudden stop. This can cause the brain to twist within the skull and become injured.

Here’s another way to think of it: imagine throwing a tennis ball onto loose granular snow – since there’s a good deal of friction between both the ball and the snow, the tennis ball experiences a high amount of rotational force on impact (demonstrated by the rotating “+” signs). Now if you tossed the same ball on something like a wet polished concrete floor, the ball would twist far less – instead of being directly transferred to the ball, some of the force is redirected as the ball slips on impact.

The illustrations above show the exact same two scenarios with the arrows representing force. As the tennis ball bounces off of loose granular snow (scene A), the ball retains three arrows of force as it bounces. When the ball is tossed onto wet polished concrete, some of the force is redirected forward before the ball bounces.

HELMET TECHNOLOGY KEY CONSTRUCTIONS - GRUNDKONSTRUKTIONER MIPS – MULTI-DIRECTIONAL IMPACT PROTECTION SYSTEM MIPS is a step forward in helmet design. There are three main components to a MIPS-equipped helmet: the interior foam liner, the Low Friction Liner and an elastomeric attachment system between them. In an angled impact, the elastomeric attachment system stretches to allow the foam liner to rotate independently around your head. The goal of this technology is to further reduce rotational forces.

CONFORM FIT TECHNOLOGY The fully integrated Conform Fit system utilizes a 2-piece shell that literally forms to the rider’s head shape by expanding and contracting with the turn of a dial. A truly adaptive design, it features a durable yet semi-flexible EPP construction that wraps around the head to provide the lowest-profile fit we’ve ever created and unsurpassed custom comfort.

IN-MOLD CONSTRUCTION In-Mold construction fuses a tough polycarbonate outer shell with the helmet’s impact-absorbing foam liner. The fusion process allows for better ventilation systems, making In-mold helmets lighter and cooler than traditional helmets.

SOFT SHELL CONSTRUCTION Soft Shell Construction combines a patent-pending, impact-absorbing liner made with Vinyl Nitrile (VN) and a unique flexible proprietary outer shell material for a durable and comfortable fit.
