Food Technology Teacher in Charge of Subject: Mrs Howard

Entry Requirements: You will require five GCSE passes at C or above. GCSE Food would be an advantage. Please speak with a member of staff if you have any questions or concerns regarding this.

Course Details: Food Technology is about using Food science for the creation, preservation, processing and packaging of food products. In food technology you will be able to create foods which look fantastic, taste great and are marketable. During the course you will gain a deep understanding of the relationship between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. In both years there is a mixture of classroom teaching and learning by practical. In the first year (AS) course you will study materials and components, market influences and manufacturing processes. There will also be the practical element including designing and making and launching a product. In the second year you’ll continue to learn about manufacturing through marketing whilst the practical sessions give you more experience at creating and testing food ideas.

Career Options: Your A Level in Food Technology could prepare you for higher education and a rewarding career as a food technologist, nutritionist or a food product designer as well as many other possible careers. You may want to go onto to study other areas of catering and hospitality and this A Level will give you a great starting point to move on from.
