Behaviour for learning

At Alsager School we want to celebrate the excellent behaviour of our students in our lessons. Our ‘Behaviour for learning’ system provides students with a ‘Behaviour for Learning’ grade in every lesson. The minimum expectation is a 2 and within that lesson, through the student’s behaviour, the teacher may move you up to a 1 or perhaps move them down to a 3 or 4 if their behaviour becomes unacceptable.

There are a series of rewards and celebrations for students who achieve 2s and 1s. We want to celebrate this as we know that excellent behaviour impacts on their learning.

In addition to 2, 1  Your behaviour motivates others to behave well.  You are highly considerate and supportive of others.  Your behaviour is excellent.  You actively contribute to the lesson.

The minimum expectation  You fully comply with all instructions  You remain on task throughout the lesson.  You demonstrate respect for other people’s learning by concentrating and co-operating throughout the lesson.  You take responsibility for your own behaviour and work to the best of your ability.  You do not talk when others are talking.

Although you can be polite and show responsibility for your own behaviour one or more of the following apply:  You arrive late to the lesson without good reason.  You speak when others are speaking.  You use language which is not acceptable to your teacher.  You take yourself or others off task.  Your behaviour is such that you are required to move seats.  You are slow to respond to prompts or instructions on how to conduct yourself.

YOU CANNOT NEGOTIATE BACK TO 2  You directly challenge a member of staff or demonstrate a lack of respect.  You continue to ignore/defy a specific instruction or prompt.  You are sent out to another classroom.  Your behaviour is disruptive, having a negative effect on your learning and that of others.  RED CARD YOU CANNOT NEGOTIATE BACK TO 2

Your behaviour meets the Level 2 criteria but you do not have the correct equipment.

Rewards Every student who has sustained 1s and 2s for a week will receive a golden ticket from their form tutor and will be entered into a prize draw at the end of each half term. Students who sustain this for an entire half term will also receive a certificate home celebrating their superb behaviour. The best form in each college, according to BFL grades, will receive an extended lunch time as a reward for their excellent behaviour in their lessons. Each half term the best form in each year group receive breakfast provided for them in their Co-operative Learning lesson. We also celebrate our top 15 students in each college by displaying their names and photos in our hall of fame on their College’s ‘behaviour for learning’ board.

Sanctions Form tutors talk to their tutees about their BFL grades in form time and in particular counsel the students who have received more than 5 3s over our two week timetable. Any student who has been issued a 4 by their teacher will be issued with an after school subject detention and will be interviewed by their College Manager.
