Entry Requirements: You will need to have gained at least two B grades in GCSE Science. You will also be expected to show a willingness to work independently and to set deadlines. Adopting the correct work ethic & doing your best is also crucial at A level.
Course Details: The GCE AS and A2 Biology course has changed from Sept 2008, to build on concepts and skills that will have been developed in the new GCSE Science specifications. There will be an increasing focus on understanding “How Science/Biology works” to appreciate the applied aspects of Biology in society.
At AS, there area two extensive units of study, whilst practical and investigative skills are assessed by a Practical Skills Assessment (PSA) mark and by an Investigative Skills Assignment (ISA) mark.
At A2, there are again two extensive units of study which build on the AS work, together with Practical and investigative skills. The PSA is awarded by internal assessment whilst the ISA is externally assessed.
Examination for both AS and A2 are taken in January and June

Career Options: The subject has enormous applications and can be combined into a number of vocational courses at University. Many students go on to study Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacology and Biochemistry or combine Biology with other subjects, eg. Business Studies and Psychology.
