Entry Requirements: You will need to have gained a Grade B in GCSE Science (Double Award). Good grades in GCSE Maths and English are an advantage – so are good research and IT skills!

Course Details: The A Level exam is covered in two years; AS and A2 accounting for 50% each of the total marks. The entire course is divided into 12 themes, six being visited in Year 12 and six in Year 13. Each theme is well supported by texts which cover theory, practical, research and IT activities. You are also expected to use web-based resources to add to your knowledge and understanding of chemistry. There is a January exam in each year worth 15% of the total A2 grade Exams/Coursework: AS

Career Options: ‘No matter how the world changes in the 21st century, Chemistry will always be at the centre of science and at the heart of life’ (Guardian University Guide 2006). With an A Level in Chemistry you could go on to FE or HE, studying Chemistry or related subjects like Natural Science, Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Science or Engineering or work in science-based industry.
