Entry Requirements: You will have gained at least a grade C in the GCSE Design and Technology courses of Graphic Products (GPT). Course Details: The course has two clearly defined pathways either conceptual design or the built environment. Conceptual design incorporates packaging design, product design, point of sale display and vehicle design. The built environment focuses upon architecture, interior design, exhibition design, theatre set design and garden design. During AS, you study two units and another two at A2. AS Level Unit 1 has three tasks the first is based upon Packaging. You will critically analyse a branded product and investigate industrial production methods. The second task is based on creativity and requires you to use ‘blue sky thinking’ to design a building for the future for a specific purpose. Finally the third section concentrates on your making skills, it allows you to either produce an architectural model or a full scale model of any hand held product for example game controller or mobile phone. Throughout all this work you will use photography to present, enhance and display your work. Unit 2 An externally set exam that focuses upon materials and components, industrial printing, commercial processes and quality.
A2 level Unit 3 Is another externally set exam that looks closely at historical design movements, mass production and the consumer society. Unit 4 You have the choice of one of three project areas you are required to produce a modelled 3d outcome supported by 2d graphics. The three areas are exhibition design, vehicle design or architecture. In this unit you must focus on your design having a real commercial purpose and you should work with a client to give you critical feedback. Exams/Coursework: AS
