16-19 Bursary Fund – Alsager Sixth Form Policy Applications Applications are made by completing the application form and returning it with the supporting evidence to the Sixth Form Office. Applications will be reviewed by Sixth Form Management Team to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria and an amount allocated based on need and the total fund available. There is no closing date. However students who apply after the start of the term may be paid on a pro rata basis.

Categories of bursary Priority 1: Young people in care, care leavers, Young people receiving income support, and disabled young people receiving both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance. LA letter and matched data from the LA required as evidence for those young people in care or are care leavers. Documented evidence required from support agencies for all other categories. Priority 2: Based on FSM data Year 11 May census. Evidence provided by the LA to work based learning providers and colleges. Household Income below £16,190. Priority 3: Household Income below £20,817. Evidence required Working Tax Credits. Priority 4: Household income below £25,521. Evidence required P60 and/or Working Tax Other criteria: Should student attendance, behaviour, attitude and attainment fall below the stated criteria payment may be reduced or withdrawn at the discretion of the Sixth Form Management team. Attendance Payments are only awarded for 100% attendance at lessons. Even if your absence is authorised, you will not be entitled to payment unless your absence is for:­ • University Open Day • Job interview for full time employment • Court appearance • Funeral • Major medical treatment that has to be conducted during school time • Occasional day of absence due to illness Behaviour Students should also have a good record of behaviour, attitude and attainment (eg meeting deadlines, responding positively to learning targets and abiding by school rules. Payment When students meet the criteria payment is made in 10 instalments from September–June. Payments will be by cheque or BACs. Payment can also be made in kind at our discretion and based on individual need eg paid directly to Upay for school lunches or the Finance Office for school trips. [Type text]

Where appropriate receipts should be obtained for audit purposes. Each month the attendance and behaviour or all eligible students will be reviewed by the Sixth Form Management Team and a list of authorised payments given to the Finance Office who will administer the payment.

Complaints/Appeals Procedures Applicants have the right to appeal to the Sixth Form Management Team in the first instance then, if necessary, to the Assistant Head Teacher with responsibility for Sixth Form. Amounts Awarded Priority 1: Most In Need Bursary of £1,200 per year. This is a mandatory amount, however, young people need to meet agreed criteria to receive the full amount. Priority 2, 3 & 4: A Bursary payment of up to £800. These are discretionary bursaries based on remaining funds available once Priority 1 has been allocated, the criteria for all is income related and based on need. These priorities will be taken in sequence. All elements of payment from the 16­19 Bursary Fund and EMA will not exceed £1,200.
