Getting started • Start from www.ucas.com • Choose ‘apply’ from left hand menu • Then in ‘applicants’ box choose ‘register/log in to use apply 2012’ • The first time you use UCAS apply you will need to register.
To register • Follow the instructions to accept the terms and conditions and to add your details. • Set up your password and 4 security questions • At the end make a note of your username • You are now ready to log on to start your application
To log on for the first time • Select ‘apply through school/college’ • The buzzword is beehive12 • Make a note of your Personal Id number • Remember to verify your email. If you don’t do it, you may encounter problems later.
If you get a screen like this you are now ready to complete the actual application form!
Completing your application form There are 5 sections to complete
Personal details Additional Information Choices (the universities and courses you wish to apply for) Education (your exam results and A2 subjects) Employment (any part-time jobs) Statement (personal statement)
You can complete the sections in any order and save your application at any time
Common mistakes - Personal details • Area of permanent residence - Remember if you live in Alsager you are a Cheshire resident even though you have a ST postcode. • Reference numbers – your tutor and Mrs Barton has a copy of your Unique Learner Number • Fee code - Everyone should choose fee code 02 and your county • Nominated access – fill in if possible in case you are ever ill / on holiday
Common mistakes - Education This is the section where most people make mistakes!! • You must state ALL exam results even those with a U grade. • Be careful with Btec qualifications that you select the right level – national, certificate etc. • If you plan to resit an AS unit leave the module and AS result as pending and put the date as Jan 2012 or June 2012. • Include module information for AS & A2 qualifications
