PLANTING UNTREATED AND ORGANIC SWEET CORN The biggest enemy your sweet corn seed faces in the spring is cool, wet soil. Placing seed into soil below 65º F will slow germination, giving more time for fungal diseases and insects to claim their share of your seed. You’ll get much better results in 65-75º F soil, especially with untreated and organic sweet corn seed. Test your soil temperature about an inch down, be patient, and watch your corn spring to life.
