The Legal Practice Course is a postgraduate course for those wishing to qualify as solicitors. Successful completion of the course enables students to enter employment as a trainee solicitor. This traineeship is usually for a two year period. The course is validated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and is endorsed by Skillsmark (the quality mark for programmes in the justice sector).
Assessment We use a combination of timed open book supervised assessments, closed book supervised assessments, oral practical and course work style assessments across the course. Unlike many other providers our students undertake full-scale mock assessments in all areas.
Specific Entry Requirements Applicants must have completed the academic stage of training by having completed a qualifying law degree or GDL/CPE conversion course or have gained Fellowship of the Institute of Legal Executives. Proof of this must be obtained from the SRA together with student membership of the SRA before enrolment on the course.
Student Testimonial “The quality of the course and the exceptional calibre of the teaching staff is reflected in the confidence that local and regional firms have placed in the Anglia LPC, who frequently visit campus to recruit or offer mentoring opportunities to students. The strong connections that the faculty enjoys with the legal community, and their focus on employability was soon apparent. Within a month of starting the LPC a respected Cambridge firm came on to campus to recruit paralegals through a rigorous set of interviews. I was successful in obtaining a position as a paralegal in the firm’s private client department and gained invaluable experience. After completing the LPC the firm offered me a training contract which I was delighted to accept. The staff operate an open door policy, are more than approachable, and were always on hand to clarify any points arising from lectures or workshops. Perhaps most impressive was the fact that every staff member knew us individually and their pastoral care was sincere; not always the case with larger providers.” Dr Karl Dembicki
The Staff Team: All our staff are qualified solicitors and have many years of practice experience between them over a range of legal disciplines.

“Anglia Ruskin arranged the recruitment event that led to my working 2 days a week in a Cambridge firm. The flexible teaching meant I attended LPC teaching 2 days a week. I now have a training contract at that firm.”
Support We pride ourselves on a high standard of pastoral care which is not always available from larger providers. We are able to address our students’ individual needs, supporting our students both with the transition from undergraduate to LPC study and from study to training contracts and employment.
LPC subjects Some of the course content is prescribed by the professional body and some represents “added value” non-assessed subjects as recommended by our Advisory Board of regional legal practitioners. It includes:
Why study our Legal Practice Course Location We offer the LPC at both the Cambridge and Chelmsford campuses. Both our campuses are centrally located, with good transport links and are within easy walking distance of the train stations. Both have regular rail connections with London and the train takes about 35 minutes to Chelmsford and 50 minutes to Cambridge. Flexible and Blended-Learning Taught over one year, we are the only institution in the UK to offer full-time study over 2 fixed days per week (Cambridge only). Our students are able to study around other commitments including employment and training opportunities. Most lectures are delivered by “i-lecture”, watched by students remotely, adding further flexibility. The Chelmsford LPC is delivered over four days per week and all learning is face to face. Cost We are very proud of being able to deliver a high-quality course at a significant saving in price to our major competitors. A full list of LPC prices are available at the SRA website. We are the best value for money LPC in the East Anglia area.

Reputation Feedback from employers suggests that they place much more emphasis on achievement and skills than the institution attended. The range and depth of skills of our students and the standard they achieve in the LPC make our students extremely attractive to employers. 84% of our 2011 graduated students did so with a commendation or distinction. We were the first University in England and Wales to have our LPC accredited by Skillsmark, achieving a Grade 1 - the top award of four possible grades for the course. Skillsmark was established by Skills for Justice, the Sector Skills Council which covers all employers, employees and volunteers working in the UK justice system, as part of its mission to link learning to reputable and valued qualifications.
