ABOUT THE ARTIST:
DAVID GROSSMANN
ALTAMIRA FINE ART SCOTTSDALE
David Grossmann’s evocative landscapes blur the edges between reality, memory and imagination. His subtle, glowing palette and gentle brushwork reflect abstracted views of nature’s beauty, from forests of Aspen trees, to the majesty of the Grand Canyon. The paintings in Nuevas visiones highlight the drama of the Sonoran desert, as well as explore the play of light on the landscape, evident in compelling sunrise and nocturne paintings. Merging techniques from centuries ago with a contemporary aesthetic, Grossmann’s work bridges the gap between old and new, tradition and abstraction. Grossmann’s work has received wide recognition from critics and collectors through exhibits across the United States and in Europe and awards include the Artists Choice Award and the Southwest Art Award of Excellence at the Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale. “Several of the pieces in this show represent turning points and new perspectives for me. My compositions took on a life of their own and became more rhythmic and expressive than I had anticipated. I try to leave room for myself to experiment with each piece so that there is space for the new and the unexpected to find their way into whatever I am painting.” 5
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
TRAVIS WALKER
ALTAMIRA FINE ART SCOTTSDALE
Travis Walker specializes in capturing the sense of every day scenes- taking seemingly mundane subjects and transforming them into dynamic compositions. His use of color, design and contrast lend an Edward Hopper like feel to his urban and rural depictions. The paintings in Nuevas visiones explore the idea of infrastructure as it relates to the natural environment. Walker’s work is influenced by American Regionalist painters, German Expressionism and Japanese Printmaking. His work has appeared in The Guardian, Forbes, Southwest Art, Mountain Living, Images West, and Painters of Grand Teton National Park. “In the landscape of the American desert, I discover striking color harmonies where desert meets water, a red and green palette I have never encountered so perfectly in nature anywhere else. Man’s modest creations, like roads, landscaping, and houses, can exist in harmony with nature, and this balance inspires me. The images of man’s efforts among nature’s majesty, can help define a place for a while, and I feel it is my role as an artist to capture these periods of time.”
