ALT ISSUE 4: BLACK BASS FAMILY It’s ALT reimagined. New layout, expanded staff, and a nice blend of education and storytelling. With a focus on photography, we brought our features and departments to life, allowing our readers to immerse themselves in our publication. This is the new face of ALT Fly Fishing. We went all in on the black bass family. Largemouths, smallmouths, and the locations in which to find them. The good times kept rolling as there were no issues with any of our production equipment during the task of putting it all together. This wouldn’t last however, as two months later, we had yet another crash. But, the issue made it, and new production equipment is in the cards. THE COVER This was an especially meaningful photo-op for our Editor-In-Chief, who’s ugly mug graces the cover. With the characteristic lull associated with leaving bedding bass alone during the spawn, we were counting down the days until we could target big healthy bass again. A day before the new issue dropped we struck gold, landing this beautiful and healthy largemouth that adorns our cover. he THE STORIES Our buddy Ben Pickett penned his first full length feature for this issue titled “Stick Marsh,” where he explores the newly opened Lake Egan located adjacent to the fabled bass waters. We weren’t done exploring all that encompasses fly fishing for largemouth bass, and doubled down on “Largemouth 101,” a complete dissertation on everything our readers needed to know when it comes to targeting the most popular game fish in North America. From the West Coast, we were joined by New School Bass, which is headquartered in San Diego, California. The state successfully introduced Florida-strain largemouth bass into the region’s waterways, giving anglers a chance to tangle with some true behemoths. Don’t be surprised if the next all-tackle record comes out of Southern California. Cali For those interested in smallmouths, Colton Orbaker covered all the bases in his feature “Bronzebacks.” We were especially happy to feature Colton, we struck up a friendship just before deadline and were thrilled to have him!
