Detergents, Chemicals, Oleo

Based in Milan, Italy, Desmet Ballestra S.p.A leads the Group’s Detergents, Chemicals & Oleo Division (DCO), with proprietary technologies in many areas of the organic and inorganic chemical industry. Its unique skill and experience in the design and supply of plants cover a wide range of needs, such as:  production of surfactants, formulated detergents, auxiliaries and raw materials for the Detergent Industry.  production of Sulphuric acid, Phosphoric acid, N-P-K granulated compounds, SSP, TSP, Sodium Silicate, Potassium Sulphate, Zeolites etc.  Oils & Fats hydrogenation, Fats splitting, Glycerin distillation, fatty acids distillation, Biodiesel production, Methylester fractionation/hydrogenation, fatty alcohols production and other oleo-chemical technologies. Since the beginning of its operation in 1960 under the name Ballestra, Desmet Ballestra DCO Division has focused on the design and supply of modern, efficient and easy-to-operate production plants for sulphonation and detergent production. Amongst the major innovations introduced by Ballestra : the use of gaseous SO3 (vs. oleum) as a sulphonation agent and the process optimisation of anionic surfactants production, reaching yield and product quality never achieved before. Through continuous technological development, Desmet Ballestra DCO Division has built up and consolidated its leading position in the surfactants and detergents sector with 1,500 plants spread over 120 countries. For over a decade, Desmet Ballestra also diversified into the inorganic chemical sector for the design and supply of specific industrial units : sulphuric acid production plants up to over 2,000 TPD capacity, phosphoric acid and other chemical compounds (SSP, TSP, NPK fertilizers, Potassium Sulphate) production. Through the acquisition in 2005 of the former CMB Italian Company, active in the oleo-chemical field, Desmet Ballestra also constituted a strong oleo-chemical expertise for the design of Fatty Acids, Fatty, Glycerine and Methylesters plants. As a result, the company has been awarded 90 biodiesel plants with a total capacity exceeding 13,000.000 Ton per year in all major markets.
