0 1 F I E L D E X P L O R AT I O N S Media Photograph, digital print. 8” x 6” Graphite on Bristol, 18” x 24” Beginning with an exploration of field conditions as they occur in the natural environment, this project invloved the twodimensional representation of a single personally-selected photograph. The field condition selected was that of a melting snowbank. Section cut lines were taken at two points within the drawing.

FIGURE STUDIES 02 Media Photocollage, 8.5 x 11” Graphite on Bristol, 18” x 24” Polystyrene foam This project involved the two-dimensional representaion of a polystyrene figure model by means of orthographic sections, axonometric projections, tonal rendering and photo collage. Further exploration of the figure involved mechanically-cast and observed shadow.

Upon completion of a three-dimensional working model, a set of orthographic line drawings were produced, in addition to a further set of detail, interior, and exterior renderings.

05 KNOT ARCHITECTURE Media Graphite on Bristol, 18” x 24” Piano wire model, 3” x 4” x 5” Chipboard models, 6” x 8” x 10” This project was an introduction to the design process, invloving the abstraction, drawing, and modelling of a knot. The knot chosen as design inspiration was the anchor bend - abstracted into an orthagonal wire model and a progression-style line drawing. This line served to inform a planar ribbon model and subsequently a volumetric eggcrate model.

Long strips of fabric run between bent wooden posts, manipulated to obsure views through the coniferous tree canopy while allowing views of and through the seasonally-variable deciduous tree canopy.

08 BIOMIMETIC STORAGE Media

This project sought to stitch research to the design process and develop objects that perform like biological systems. Using the termite mound and Kangaroo Rat as inspiration, our team designed a modular storage system to address the architecture building’s insufficient storage space.

09 NEWARK VISITOR’S CENTER Media Sketches Digital models + renderings industry : heritage : isolation

This design proposal seeks to create a place in which one – visitor or not – becomes engaged with the local environment and people of Newark, inexorably linking the city’s past to its present & simultaneously informing a future based upon local heritage and economic exchange. A treelike program organization embodies the notion that each disparate element of use is contingent upon an interaction between the locality and the greater public.
