About Redback. Since 1974 we have been manufacturing public address products in Perth, Western Australia. Whilst many of our competitors have shifted production off shore we take pride in supplying the pro audio industry with innovative Australian Made product, offering superior performance, reliability, warranty & long term service support. Our close cooperation with leading sound system contractors has enabled us to incorporate many distinctive sought after features not always available with imports. We include comprehensive parts and labour warranty of 10 years on Australian made Redback audio products with 5 years on PA speakers.
Our History In 1974 Jack O’Donnell founded a company with the aim to bid for West Australian government tenders for public address systems. This work gradually grew into a full manufacturing operation for “Redford” amplifiers and speakers. Upon moving to new premises on Roe St in 1986, the brand was relaunched as “Redback”. The production department has grown over the years to occupy a huge floor area, employing a team of assembly builders. We have resisted the temptation to move offshore by offering better quality and more innovative products. Our Perth manufacturing facility produces most of the Redback audio & One-Shot speaker ranges. We strive to support local suppliers wherever possible in our supply chain, helping Australia’s manufacturing industry.
A Leading Innovator We have always strived to innovate within the public address audio industry, aiming to solve the problems of installers and consultants to reduce installation time. The One-Shot speaker revolutionised the way ceiling speakers are installed into ceiling tiles. The latching snap-fit design installs in seconds, securing the speaker in place without the need for screws or clips – saving countless hours of installers time and money. At the time of release, the One-Shot speaker & grille combination was the fastest to install in the world, and we are confident to this day that no other design has bettered it. We have since gone on to sell over 3 million units of the One-Shot! Redback amplifiers and mixers have also undergone a steady evolution as trends within the public address industry have emerged. The aim of Redback’s designers has been to allow set up of all features without the need to lift the lid, making it easy for changes in set up after the amplifier has been bolted into the rack. We remain confident that Redback’s long term performance and reliability, together with our industry leading warranty, more than compensate for any additional cost over quite often inferior imported products.

Phase5 4 Zone 125/250 Watt Mixer Amplifiers A compact 2RU amplifier with four 100V line output zones. These can be selected via the front panel switches. Each zone can also be remote paged via the addition of the A 4488 paging console (max 2) which connects with Cat6 UTP cabling. Measuring 70/100V Line Speaker Impedance: To measure amplifier system load, you must use an impedance meter in order to measure the AC resistance of the connected speaker network. Impedance cannot be measured with a standard multimeter, as this measures the DC resistance. Use the Redback Q 2004 or similar impedance meter.

Wiring speakers in parallel for 70/100V line: Where several speakers are to be used at one time, on one circuit, it becomes necessary to use speakers fitted with line-matching transformers. This is to overcome the effects of connecting speakers in parallel and cable losses. The amplifier generally has an output voltage of 100V (70V is typically used in North America). In this configuration the total wattage load on the amplifier is derived from adding all the line transformer tap ratings together. For example, 50 x 5 Watt speakers will have a total speaker load of 250 Watts. A typical 70V/100V line PA speaker string is shown on the right.

It is designed to be simple to set up and install, and most importantly easy for the customer to use. There is no complex programming or set up involved.

Up to 24 zones in a single paging system. This flexible system is ideal for schools, shopping centres and large facilities where multi-zone paging is required between multiple buildings. It bridges the gap between internet protocol (IP) based and traditional 100V line PA systems. All components are designed to be plugged into the building local area network (LAN) and will connect to existing building PA, alarm and bell signalling equipment. The paging controller is the heart of the system where all commands are initiated. It provides zone PA selection, multi-zone recall, background music (BGM) selection and do not disturb settings. When paging to a zone BGM is automatically muted (if selected in that zone). We have designed this touch operated interface to be as easy as possible to use for the end user. The system encoder has inputs for BGM and the Redback A4505B timer or similar for playback of school bells, alert and evacuation notices/tones. Any alarm or bell signal from the encoder is broadcast on an "all call" basis, overriding any BGM or PA selections. Do not disturb option prevents BGM, PA and bell tones, and allows emergency PA/tones only. A minimum system comprises of a paging console and system encoder. For zoned systems where connection to a traditional PA system is required, the zone decoder can be added. This converts the IP audio back into standard analog stereo RCA for connection to standard amplifiers. *Note product is currently in final development and appearance may vary.

Zone Decoder For IP Communicator Encoders are used to interface the IP based paging system into a traditional 100V line PA system. The required audio is transported over building LAN cabling and the encoder, when addressed, strips the audio out and feeds it into the 100V line zone amplifier. When selected, BGM will be muted by PA, bell or emergency tones. A relay will operate on the encoder under these conditions allowing control of external classroom volume control override relays.

Microphone Network System Designed for systems that use a large number of Redback C0325 mics such as supermarkets and hardware stores. This design is very unique in that it allows you to install unlimited PTT mics on a single circuit, but only allow one mic at a time to operate. Cabling can be loop in/loop out and allows for "tee" offs to remote points if required. When a microphone is in use, the system "locks out" all other connected microphones. One mic can be set to have priority and will override all other mics, even if another is in use. A 4962 can be used as either a transmitter or receiver. When used as a transmitter it can be used to indicate when a service lane or checkout is available. By adding an appropriate switch and indicating light this will direct customers to the next available operator. It could also be interfaced to a local PA with message player advising customers eg: "lane 6 is now available".

8 Channel PA Mixer With Tone Generator An evolution of our PA mixer series, the A 4427 combines 8 channels of audio with an MP3 based tone generator for alert, evacuation, chime and prerecorded voice over message alerts. Six audio channels can be selectable for either balanced mic or line. These are connected via stereo RCA (line) or pluggable screw terminals (balanced). Two aux channels are dedicated RCA inputs, plus a 3.5mm jack input on the front panel for connection to local audio/music sources. Tone Generator Operation. Tones, chimes and pre-recorded messages are played from the micro SD card which plugs into the rear panel of the mixer. Individual level controls are provided for alert/evac, chime and voice over. All of these can be triggered by closing contacts such as switches, from Fire Indicator Boards (FIB) or any other remote contact source.
4 Channel Mixer With Message Player This unique mixer features four input channels which are user selectable for either balanced mic, line or auxiliary use. This cost effective, PA/BGM control system is suitable for clubs, pubs, gyms etc. It is ideally suited as a central controller for all audio inputs and outputs in a multi zone installation. The design is highly flexible and easily set up by the installer. No special training or complex programming is required. Each input and output can be custom labelled and displayed on the front panel screen. This shows at a glance, which input is selected to which output. The system is configured with 8 auxiliary source inputs, 1 emergency paging input and 1 alert/evac input. Inputs 1 and 2 are 3 pin XLR/dual RCA. All other inputs are dual RCA only. 12x16 Audio Matrix System Incorporating 4 microphone inputs and up to 12 line inputs, this easy to set up and control matrix is ideal for RSL clubs, pubs, taverns and function centres.
A new larger audio matrix with touchscreen control for multi-zone PA systems. Operation is very intuitive and requires no complex training. Any input can be selected to any output zone or combination of zones. All four mic inputs can be selected simultaneously to any zone or combination of zones, along with one of the auxiliary inputs. Overall system control can be managed with a LCD touchscreen master control wallplate. This allows control of inputs and volume settings for all zones. LCD Touchscreen zone control plates allow input selection and volume control for one zone only. Each zone control plate can be connected to a local input plate which provides connection for additional microphones or a music source within that zone. Bluetooth audio streaming is also provided on each zone wallplate. Third party control is also available using RS232. For multi-purpose venues, zones can be grouped and disbanded allowing multiple zones to be joined together with control for that zone allowable from any wallplate in the group. Disbanding this group returns the system to its original multi-zone set up. The system includes all call priority inputs for connection to evacuation alert system and a second tier priority for important announcements or RSL "ode" playback. Paging Console For general paging to zones the A4655 paging console can be connected. This also provides master control for the system. Up to 8 consoles per system.

Emergency / Fire Evacuation Controller This easy to operate controller is designed around industry standard building emergency alert/evacuate requirements. When connected to a paging system amplifier, building occupants can be alerted and/or evacuated in the event of an emergency eg: fire, gas leak, bomb scare, earthquake. It can be interfaced with a fire indicator board (FIB) and automatically activate alerts when a signal is received from the FIB. Alternatively, it can be used in a manual mode where notifications are triggered by remote wallplate, front panel buttons or paging console (A4564). Emergency conditions can also be cancelled using the same methods. All tones, including voice over messages are stored on SD card. This allows for custom recording of all tones for each function. The card is supplied loaded with standard alert, evac and several bell chime tones. Rear mounted volume controls for PA mic, evac, bell, fire, voice over, pre announcement chime and BGM allowing overall audio adjustment. Volume controls are also provided on the front for the auxiliary and front panel mic inputs. With the addition of the A 4597 remote wallplate, the system can initiate a message to building occupants that the fire system is being tested. The fire alarm switch on this wallplate is in case of fire and will immediately put the system into evac mode.

Lockdown Controller This lockdown controller is primarily aimed at schools which require a lockdown warning facility. The controller has provision for a period bell plus a standby, lockdown and all clear tones. These can be activated by the switches on the front panel, by the remote closing contact triggers on the rear of the unit or by the optional wall plate (A 4598) or paging console (A 4596). All tones are stored on an SD card in MP3 format allowing complete control over the sounds played for each tone output. Standby and lockdown tones can be set to loop in playback for the period those conditions are active. The main unit, paging console and wallplates offer visual confirmation of lockdown states via button illumination. The unit is powered from a 24V DC source (power supply included) and separate 24V DC switched outputs are supplied for remote triggering (of sirens/strobes etc) for all tone conditions (pre-bell, period bell, standby, lockdown and all clear). 24V DC Battery Backup Chargers Ideal for PA systems & other applications requiring battery backup. These models incorporate a highly efficient, intelligent, multi stage switchmode battery charger ensuring optimum battery charging and performance. An auxiliary 24V DC 1 amp power supply is provided to run ancillary devices without interfering with the charging cycle. Connected loads to this circuit automatically switch to the battery when mains fails. The circuit includes a host of protection to protect both the charger and batteries. These include reverse polarity connection, low battery disconnect feature and battery isolator/circuit breaker. Large heavy duty binding posts are included for battery and load terminals. Individual panel meters are provided for battery voltage and charge current. In normal operation, the panel meters indicate battery charge current and battery voltage. The Patented Redback Twist Cap. Our twist lock cap makes internal termination easy! Saving installers time and money. Typically to terminate cabling internally on a horn speaker it involves removing four screws on the rear cover, connecting the cable and then re-installing the same screws. As you can imagine, doing this up a ladder can get quite fiddly! The One-Shot horn eliminates screw removal by utilising a patented twist lock mechanism. The installer simply twists off the rear cover, connects the cabling and twists the cover back on! The labour savings by using the One-Shot horn on a large job are significant.

Typically to terminate cabling internally on a sound projector speaker, it involves removing three screws on the rear cover, connecting the cable and then re-installing the same screws. As you can imagine, doing this up a ladder can get quite fiddly! The One-Shot eliminates screw removal by utilising a patented twist lock mechanism. The installer simply twists off the rear cover, connects the cabling and twists the cover back on! The labour savings by using the One-Shot horn on a large job are significant. The Patented Redback Twist Cap. Our twist lock cap makes internal termination easy! Saving installers time and money. Typically to terminate cabling internally on a horn speaker it involves removing four screws on the rear cover, connecting the cable and then re-installing the same screws. As you can imagine, doing this up a ladder can get quite fiddly! The One-Shot horn eliminates screw removal by utilising a patented twist lock mechanism. The installer simply twists off the rear cover, connects the cabling and twists the cover back on! The labour savings by using the One-Shot horn on a large job are significant.
