mia photo fair 9 - 12 March 2018 · The Mall - Porta Nuova Varinese · Milan, Italy

In the artistic production of Beatriz Polo Iañez (1976) drawing and photography stand out as her preferred mediums. Her photographic work portrays in a subtle manner and without rhetoric the harshness of the modern world with its constant change, travel, and the continuous reformulation of individual identity. Polo Iañez has taken part in PhotoEspaña (Madrid), in the Triennial of Photography of Hamburg, and the Festival de Arte Contemporáneo of Saltillo in Mexico. Mónica Álvarez Careaga Curator

those who come and go Those who come and go (Los que van y vienen) address the issue of migratory movements that has been and continues to be a constant in the history of Spain. Verbs such as emigrate and immigrate have described the movements of family members, friends and couples who have gradually been shaping the biographical map of the citizens of this geographical space. In the last decades there has been a coming and going of people who have offered our society a cultural plurality. The characters of the project integrate in their concept of identity, multiple belongings. Endless memories, destinies and paths, derived from the “nomadism”, that are intertwined creating an enriching framework that has served as the foundation of this photographic project.

Beatriz Polo is Master PhotoEspaña in Theories and Art Projects and Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Granada. Her artistic practice of recent years has been through different disciplines such as drawing, painting and photography. In 2016, her photographic project L’illa was chosen to participate in the Illes d’Art Residence and to be exhibited at the Real Sociedad Fotográfica de Madrid during 2017. In 2015, she was selected to exhibit at the Triennial of Photography in Hamburg (Germany), to participate in the preview of La Fábrica Photobook Week and in the viewings of the PhotoEspaña Discoveries Week. In addition, she was part of the project Intervened Archive, City Taken curated by Fernando Gómez de la Cuesta, which was exhibited at the Festival of Contemporary Art in Saltillo (Mexico). beatrizpolo.es
