Toni Amengual (1980) is a visual activist who seeks to cause an immediate impression on the spectator. Amengual is not constrained by current affairs but unearths his own themes (marriage, loneliness, political corruption, arms…) and approaches them with a strong chiaroscuro style as polarised as current society. His works have been displayed in outstanding collections such as the MoMA of New York and the CCCB of Barcelona; his photo-books Pain and Devotos have received numerous prizes and awards. devotos In 2011, in the previous days to the autonomic elections of 15M (May 15th) and the general elections of 20N (November 20th), these are the faces of those attending the meetings of the two parties that had the power in Spain. The faces of those who every four years receive a pole from above. A pole of promises, great words and political programs. A pole to grasp because nobody likes living adrift. And at the end of the pole, a red or blue flag. The stoicism of these persons that continue to hold the pole after forty years is impressive.
