*** Swedish-born artist Vicky Kylander follows in the footsteps of the Victorian neo-medieval designers who introduced symmetries and entwining and meandering motifs inspired by the plant world into their furniture and household decorative objects.

However, in Kylander’s work the colour has disappeared and the sensory appeal is reduced to a minimum; the branches and the birds that perch on them have become a pattern, a repeated theme that creates a graphic atmosphere. It is an intellectualised paradise, where the possibility of representing nature is brought into question

*** Antonio Mesones’ pictorial forms are constructed using a process similar to a bloom.

The emergence of new petals added to the previous ones in successive rows creates powerful abstract images using the traditional pictorial resources of glaze, colour and brushwork.

Mesones places time on the flat surface of the canvas though the repetition of a chromatic gesture, investigating this constituent material of life in a mysterious fashion.

*** The colours of Vicky Uslé’s paintings: grey, sand, turquoise and green, are natural references in which we can imagine rugged coasts, sierras and cliffs inhabited by mist and storms. Isolated landforms that float on purely pictorial backdrops.

The brushwork follows a route that builds the theme in her pieces on paper. Structures of edges and impossible angles that build something like primitive architectures. Uslé seeks a subtle relationship between materiality and light, between sustained brushstrokes and dissolving colour.
