THIS SEASON This season we’re slowing down. We’re surrounding ourselves with furniture and accessories that offer a break from a modern life that is in constant motion. We seek materials, surfaces and colours that make us feel comfortable and grounded. The home represents our heart and is a manifestation of our beliefs. For the spring/summer 2017 season, nature will be the hero in our homes. We celebrate its authenticity and flexibility and use nature-inspired details to express ourselves.

The material palette this season is organic and natural. At the same time, we see a shift towards bolder and more experimental combinations. We are contrasting the use of materials to create a personal look. Warm metals like brass and warm gold tones continue to be a trend for spring/summer 2017. They add warmth and a sense of luxury to our dĂŠcor. And when in combination with industrial materials like black steel, the composition becomes irresistible.

PAGE 7

This season, we’re looking for objects that give a sense of balance to our lives. The natural look is key, and we see an abundance of warm textures such as wood, paper and textiles. So, if you’re planning to revamp your décor, look for objects that embrace old crafts and imperfect forms, such as ceramics plates and beautiful wooden details in dark tones. The warm texture brings not only a luxurious touch to the décor; it sets a relaxed and soothing atmosphere. When it comes to textiles, the Art Deco-inspired trend with lavish materials as velvet continues into 2017. The same goes for natural textiles with a textured look.

- C O L O U R S -

As we dive into spring and summer, we see a shift in colour. This season, we’re craving a soothing refuge from our hectic everyday lives. And the colours used to evoke this feeling are anything but neutral.

Even though we’re entering a brighter season, we’re looking for something with a bit more feeling - something a bit more saturated. Rich, bold shades of reds, greens and blues with a nature-inspired vibe aim to create a relaxed and tranquil feel in our homes, while adding a touch of drama. They evoke nostalgic memories and are the perfect colours for this season’s festive gatherings – both outdoors and indoors. The rich colour palette is supported by composed neutrals like white, grey and subtle earth tones. They’re perfect for keeping you grounded and they have a quiet and uplifting feel. To balance the look, decorating details in inky black are new must-haves. Black emphasise the shape of an object and creates a bold graphic look in your interior.

Bringing nature inside will continue to dominate in 2017. To counterbalance the constant motion in our lives, we embrace objects with a close connection to nature. From the use of plants, flowers and greenery to botanically inspired furniture and accessories. Commit to the trend by freshening up your home’s décor with a green boost. Whether fresh herbs in your kitchen or a beautiful floral arrangement on your living room table, blooms will give your décor an instant update – and add a finishing touch to any space. As we welcome a new season, green will become a new must-have colour. Green is a symbol of renewal, energy and growth – and it’s the perfect colour for spring and summer. Whether used in décor items as cushions and vases or in furniture, they add depth and life to your interior.

2017 will redefine our walls with items that tell a story of authenticity. Wall art will become an important tool to showcase our personalities and to set a cosy and personal atmosphere. This season is all about tactility, and 1970s-inspired furnishings are set to make a major comeback. So, expect to see wall accessories with a soft, textured look, such as embroideries and casual linen prints. We also see a shift from traditional wall art, like posters, to expressive photographic art prints that capture the beauty of authentic everyday moments. This trend is accompanied by artful mobiles with geometric shapes. They evoke motion and personality in our home dĂŠcor.

Multifunctional and versatile furniture and accessories are catching on this season. With more and more people living in small living spaces, we see an increasing demand for furniture that performs several tasks. We have moved from “one room – one function” to rooms dedicated to several purposes. Our living room has become a place for entertaining, relaxing, dining and even working. This calls for flexible furniture and accessories that can be adapted to any space and setting. We also see even more open storage solutions that are as flexible as they are stylish. If you’re looking to include these, use them to showcase your favourite items.

It’s all about the details – and function. Personalise your kitchen with wooden utensils that have an aesthetic appeal, like rustic cutting boards, spoons and tongs. They will bring warmth and character to your kitchen and home. And when used, they’ll develop a beautiful patina.

PAGE 35

Spice up your kitchen décor with fresh herbs. Go for greattasting herbs like basil, rosemary and thyme and place them in ceramic pots with a beautiful play of colour. Not only will they add layers of taste to your dishes, they’ll revive your kitchen’s décor with a warm and personal appeal. Why only use decorative details in your living room? A layered mix of materials and inviting accents like brass candle holders, small bowls and warm lighting set a charming and inviting atmosphere in your kitchen.

PAGE 37

Why hide away the things you love the most? A shelving unit on wheels with a light and airy look is easily combined with many styles of furniture. Use it to show off your passions and cravings, your favourite cookbooks, tasteful spice blends and darling coffee cups. Another way to personalise your kitchen’s dÊcor is to display the ingredients you use in your daily cooking. Jars with beautiful walnut lids are perfect as functional and decorative storage of grains, nuts and teabags. Even fresh vegetables can be used to accentuate a comforting atmosphere. Place them in cardboard storage boxes to allow the natural colours of the vegetables to shine.

ANDERS HVENEGAARD The talented Copenhagen-based street photographer Anders Hvenegaard has more than 30,000 followers on Instagram. With a keen eye for lighting, form and symmetry he unfolds a universe of captivating poetic stills. We met him at ShowLab for an interview about passion, visual storytelling and his series of well-crafted and expressive photographic art prints created for House Doctor.

Why the fascination for street photography? In street photography, one second can change everything. The composition, the expression, the story. It’s all about that moment, frozen in time and space. To me that creates something very special.

www.hvenegaards.com

How has Instagram changed your approach to photography? When I started out, first you had to take the photo, process it, develop it and then find a place to showcase it. Thanks to social media and new technologies, you can take a photo and share it with the world within just a few seconds. It has allowed me to reach an audience that wasn’t possible before. At the same time, it has challenged me to explore new approaches.

@hvenegaard

PAGE 39

How do you find locations and ideas for new motives? I walk aimlessly about, observing the city. Looking for something special; a shape, an angel or a certain lighting. For a long period of time, my bicycle had a puncture. So instead of riding my bike, I got out of bed a little earlier so

I could walk to work. This is also how the photos for the House Doctor series came into being. They’re snapshots from the city.

I like darkness. It creates a sense of mystery. It intrigues and tells a story. In the darkness, silhouettes, shadows and layers make room for personal interpretation.

PAGE 41

Yo u n e v e r k n o w w h a t h i d e s i n the layers. When a photo is fully illuminated, everything is revealed and the magic disappears.

GREEN LIVING This season is all about embracing nature, bringing the outside in. We want to feel connected to nature. It gives us a sense of balance and brings authenticity to our homes. So expect to see more interiors filled with pots, plants and natural materials. It’s time to go green.

PAGE 43

Don’t see plants as separated from your furnishing, see them as an integral part of your décor. This season, you’ll see an abundance of dark, rich shades of green. They’re on everything from lush furniture to stylish accessories. And they’re perfect for creating a botanical feel in your home.

/013 NEWS

Be creative when it comes to choosing flower pots. Use a black storage jar with lid to give your plants a modern and graphical look. Don’t hide the lid, but use it as a decorative detail.

PAGE 47

Tactility is key. Instead of placing your plants in traditional pots, use baskets with chunky weaves to evoke a natural and handcrafted feel. They’ll bring comfort and warmth to any room.

Don’t panic if you don’t have green fingers. You can add natural beauty to your interior without a lot of hard work. Echo the green living trend with nature-themed photo art and soft textiles in natural textures and shades.

PAGE 49

Plants and greenery are part of our décor like never before. And they come in every size, shape and variety. But why have plants become so popular? With technology being such a big part of everyday life, we’re looking to natural materials to bring balance and peace to our lives. Potted plants are living objects and they possess a calming aesthetic feel. They create a cosy and relaxed atmosphere and can revitalise the look of any room.

SMALL SPACES Is bigger better? Not necessarily. The last couple of years have seen an upward trend of people choosing to live small. This has sparked a re-evaluation of space and the things we keep in our homes.

PAGE 53

When living small, whether it be in an apartment, dorm room or town house, flexibility and storage are key. Everything that goes into your space should have an intention – and multiple functions. Small furniture is easily moved around. A small foldable table, like the one you see here, serves as both a table and serving tray. And on crowded days, the table can be folded and stored under the living room sofa.

PAGE 55

Clever storage is all about making room for everyday essentials – without creating clutter and noise in your interior. Choose furniture with built-in storage space. Here, three outdoor tables are pushed together to create a soft and comfortable outdoor daybed. The space under the daybed is used to hide things that are not in use, like a parasol.

A coat rack is more than a place to hang your tote bags and jackets. Here, it’s transformed into a decorative note board. The metallic surface is magnetic which allows postcards, to do-lists and drawings to become creative parts of the décor. And the hidden storage in the top is perfect for notebooks, office essentials and small purses.

A trolley is used to store a beautiful mix of kitchen supplies and magazines. The sleek design and black metal add a stylish twist to the dĂŠcor while providing flexible storage and extra work space for food preparation. Mounted on castors, the trolley can easily be moved and used as a serving piece as well.

PAGE 57

In this 20 m2 home from Danish Add a Room, creative methods are applied to create harmony between the various functions of the house; kitchen, living room, office, dining area and outdoor retreat. The secret is using multi-functional furniture and accessories that contribute to a serene and comfortable atmosphere. Great lighting is essential when you’re decorating a small space. Here, lighting is used to define and separate different functions within one room – there’s a place to eat, to relax and to cook. This makes the small room seem much bigger. By the modular sofa, a flexible wall lamp can be adjusted to fit the décor of the room. If you push the sofa modules together to form a bed, the lamp can be used as night lamp. And if the modules are separated, the lamp can be turned to the position that needs extra lighting. Stools are used in the living space to provide extra seating – both indoors and outdoors. They can also be used for storing of blankets and cushions. The design is airy and light and doesn’t distract the eye. The same goes for the big mirror placed close to the window. It makes the room feel bigger and brighter as it reflects the light and pulls the outdoor landscape inside.

PAGE 61

Be selective and fill your home with meaningful things that put a smile on your face. In the tiny kitchen area, open shelves serve double duty as both storage space and decorative statements. Here, a personal selection of kitchen necessities serves as an effective instrument to create a stylish and welcoming ambience.

- I N S P I R E -

SET THE TABLE If you’re anything like us, you love a beautifully set table. In fact, you might even go as far as to say that it’s just as important as the meal you’re serving. Formal or casual? Try these stunning table setting ideas for your next dinner party.

PAGE 63

PAGE 65

Sometimes less is more. At this simple yet elegant table, warm neutrals in shades of cream, green and smoke are paired with beautiful details of wood, gold and ceramics. It’s the perfect tablescape for formal entertaining like weddings, birthday parties and confirmations. The table is topped with a linen cloth in a serene, cream shade. The simple look sets a calm base that allows the accessories

on the table to fully shine. The look is accented with ceramic plates and golden flatware that are lined up evenly to ensure symmetry. Napkins are folded and placed on the dinner plates. Here, a combination of linen tea towels and paper napkins are used to add texture and pattern. For colour and ambience, wild arrangements of greenery and blooms are placed in transparent glass vases together with candle holders in matching colours.

The sun’s out, and it’s the perfect season for everyday get-togethers with friends and family. Even a casual table setting can have a beautifully styled look. At this table, an eclectic mix of wood, ceramics and metal gives the overall setting a warm and inviting look. And deep hues of violet, green and gold add a bohemian twist to the table.

Don’t be afraid to mix materials. At this table, candle holders and vases filled with freshcut flowers are scattered across the table to accentuate the casual vibe. Get creative and add an element of surprise. Here supplied by Monograph paperclips that highlight the place cards and cutlery.

OUTDOOR LIVING There’s nothing better than coming home from work, kicking off your shoes and heading outside. Curling up in a cosy corner with your favourite book, breathing in fresh air and listening to the soothing sounds of a gentle summer breeze. Let your outdoor space become a casual extension of your home. A place to unwind with friends and family.

PAGE 69

Set an inviting ambience in your outdoor space by adding lanterns in mismatched shapes, sizes and materials. They light up cosy summer nights and bring warmth to quiet spots in your garden. Use them as table dÊcor, hang them in clusters from tree branches or string lights – or place them in small groups on the ground.

PAGE 71

Summer is all about slowing down and embracing nature. With an increasing amount of time spent in front of smartphones and tablets, we see a greater desire to create spaces we can escape to. A relaxing outdoor oasis gives us a peaceful retreat to recharge and a place to calm our senses. And it’s the perfect spot to enjoy precious moments with friends and family.

PAGE 73

Creating a comforting refuge doesn’t have to be complicated. With a few simple tweaks you can transform any outdoor space into a second living room. Simply approach your exterior décor the same way you would your interior’s – bringing the comfort of the indoors outside. Use soft and fluffy textiles that add softness. Go for earthy hues such as grey, brown and white to create a calming and relaxed atmosphere. Include rugs to add comfort and decorative lighting to set the mood.

Eating outdoors is one of the many joys of summer. It’s about bringing people together, eating, talking and laughing. Let your guests feel relaxed by keeping it simple. Disposable tableware mixed with glass, ceramics and wooden details set a casual atmosphere – while it ensures super-easy clean-up.

PAGE 75

DECORATING DETAILS Sometimes, it’s the little details that have the biggest impact. Be it an unexpected combination of objects. A delicately framed artwork. Or a subtle silhouette. They complete the look. And, show the world who we are.

PAGE 77

2017 is anything but neutral. This season, we are experimenting with decorating details that bring warmth, life and personality into our home dÊcor. Douche pastels are replaced with bold ideas. So, keep an eye on rich dark tones and lots of contrasts. We pair brass details with dark hues of black, brown and green to create a sophisticated and calming space. And materials are combined to create unique – and personal – expressions. This season is all about sparking emotions, while maintaining a calming feel. Use a transparent glass bell to frame a stem of greenery or a prized possession. Decorate a wall with a mix of geometrical shapes, materials and colours. To achieve a balanced look, choose a few objects in different colours, and mix them with details in more neutral tones like white and grey. Here, a ceramic plate, a mirror and a metal trivet are used in a new context, and the unexpected mix creates a unique look.

PAGE 81

Unexpected combinations have big impact. Transform a simple magazine rack in black metal into an aesthetic wall lamp by combining it with a brass socket. Or, pair it with a wall mirror in a warm metallic shade.

VASES Nothing brings colour, life and personality to your home like a bouquet of fresh flowers. To decorate your home with stunning floral arrangements, you need vases to go along with them. And vases are so much more than just functional objects. They’re essential elements in your home’s interior design – whether filled or empty.

Some vases capture your attention simply because of their simplicity, others because of their captivating silhouettes and shades. But what are the dos and don’ts when it comes to selecting the right vase? A vase should complement the style of your home and the blooms you’ve chosen. And it should fit the quantity of flowers you plan to use. If your vase is too big, the flower arrangement will look unfinished.

Flower arrangements cour tesy of POSY

Vases perfectly demonstrate the power of small beautiful things. A vase can transform a moment, space and mood completely. Regardless of its material and style, it brings personality to any room in your home. A calm, neutral colour fits most homes and it lets your flowers shine. Brass adds depth, warmth and elegance. A transparent glass vase sets a light and airy atmosphere. Whereas ceramic vessels add texture and a unique retro feel to the interior.

www.posy.dk

@posydk

PAGE 83

Tall, arcing stems look good in a slender, cylindrical glass vase as it highlights the simple, long lines of the flowers. Short stem flowers with round, full blossoms like peonies fit perfectly in a smaller curvy vase that accentuates their shape.

For a larger arrangement combining a variety of flowers, use a vase with a wide base.

Flowers can be arranged in almost anything, so keep your eyes out for interesting designs – and be creative. Don’t be afraid to mix materials and designs. A group of vases in different shapes, colours and materials brings everyday magic to your home. Whether you go for glass, rustic ceramics or shimmering metal – or a combination. Add a wild arrangement of fresh-picked flowers or single-stems – or use your vases as sculptural details that add character to a lonely shelf or table.

PAGE 85

To create a sophisticated and simple look, snip off a few stems of delicate blooms and display them in a spare setting, like against a bare wall or in a window ledge. Use small vases in mixed heights and materials to create a pleasing composition. A group of single stems in small vases is a fast and simple way to create a unique floral display. Adding an element of contrast, such as a brass detail or a beautiful silhouette, will give your floral display a personal and warm twist.

Did you know that the brass lid of the glass vase can be turned upside down and used as a candleholder?

IN THE LIVING ROOM We all need a quiet space to escape to at times. A place to kick off our shoes and disconnect from the outside world. With versatile furniture and modular seating, your living room becomes a flexible space that can be rearranged to suit multiple purposes. A space for quiet downtime. And for social gatherings.

PAGE 87

The modern living room has transformed from being a space with one purpose to being a multifunctional room designated to accommodate different needs and functions. It’s a place we go to when we want to spend quality time together. And when we need to unwind and be ourselves. Creating a flexible interior décor can be tricky. We’ve all got different interests and needs. Some love reading. Others enjoy tuning in to their favourite TV show. Instead of decorating your living room as one open space, set up cosy corners with multiple functions. When combined, a large pouffe, a set of soft pillows and a stack of books become a perfect spot for reading, for quiet contemplation or simply a space for doing nothing at all. And a decorative chair becomes an extra seat or a storage place for magazines or a cosy blanket.

PAGE 89

The living room is where we keep everything that’s important to us. Here, beauty is in the detail. Use decorative details in brass to add personality and warmth to your dÊcor. From stylish vases to stunning wall decorations and lamps.

PAGE 91

A workstation doesn’t have to be a secluded space. It can easily be incorporated into your living room. A console table is perfect for creating a flexible workstation. And why not use the space under the table for storage. Decorative baskets with chunky weaves adds a personal and warm touch to the décor. And when you’re having guests over for Friday night cocktails, the table can be transformed into a stylish home bar in no time.

The great thing about a modular sofa is that it allows you to create a sofa that completely matches your needs. When your need for seating grows, new sections can easily be added. And if you want to create a “private space, you can place sections back to back or to the side. This enables you to have your own space, while maintaining a sense of community. Small tables allow you to quickly rearrange your living room according to your needs. Group them together or place them separately.

PAGE 93

Rugs can totally transform a room. Use them to define a seating area and to bring character and softness to your living room.
