Janine Rewell is a Helsinki-based young illustrator and graphic designer. She has studied graphic design in University of Art and Design Helsinki (UIAH, Finland) and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD, United States). She’s a self-taught as an illustrator and started her freelance carrier during her graphic design studies. Year 2007 she joined a Finnish illustration agency Agent Pekka. Rewell’s computerbased vector style combines basic geometrical forms with small decorative elements. Inspired by the geographical location of Finland, where she has lived most of her life, Janine’s illustrations represent an original mix of Scandinavian design and Slavic folk art. Rewell has won several awards for her work, including a bronze Design Lion at the 2009 Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. She has been also awarded as the Young Creative of the Year now two years in a row (2007 and 2008) in Finland’s Best Design of the Year competition. Janine’s works have appeared for example in advertisements, product packaging, interior designs, book covers, magazines and posters. Her clients are Nokia, Qatar Airways, Finlandia Vodka, Marimekko, just to name a few and her works has also featured in numerous design publications around the world.

Janine Rewell es una joven ilustradora que reside en Helsinki. Estudió diseño gráfico en la University of Art and Design Helsinki, (UIAH, Finlandia) y en la Rhode Island School of Design (RISD, Estados Unidos). Empezó como ilustradora autodidacta haciendo trabajos freelance mientras cursaba sus estudios de diseño gráfico. En el año 2007 entró en la agencia de ilustradores finesa Agent Pekka. El estilo de ilustración hecho a partir de vectores, combina formas geometricas básicas con pequeños detalles decorativos. Las ilustraciones de Janine representan una original combinación de diseño Escandinavo y arte folclórico Eslavo. Rewell ha recibido varios premios por sus trabajos, incluyendo un Leon de bronce en 2009 en el festival de publicidad de Cannes. También ha sido reconocida durante dos años consecutivos como la “Joven Creativa del Año” (en 2007 y 2008) en la competición al Mejor Diseño Finlandés del Año. Los trabajos de Janine han aparecido en anuncios, packaging de productos, diseños de interiores, portadas de libros, revistas y pósters. Su abanico de clientes aloja compañías como Nokia, Qatar Airways, Finlandia Vodka, Marimekko, entre otras, y también sus trabajos han sido incluidos en numerosas publicaciones de diseño de todo el mundo.

Art is an escape from universal laws, causalities and reality; it is a world where gravity doesn’t exist and the crayfish whistles on the mountain. The collection of posters on show at “Beyond Gravity” exhibition are a tribute to the impossible. It is a close study of creatures that I have never seen and the places that I have never been. The intense colors and geometric vector shapes that my illustration style is known for, are now replaced with grayscale oddity and organic pencil textures. Flying cities and swinging horses. In addition to these new posters, the exhibition will also house a selection of my favorite portfolio pieces. Keep your head in the clouds and never put your feet on the ground. Be Welcome.
El arte es una vía de escape de las leyes universales, sus causas y la realidad; es un mundo donde la gravedad no existe y el cangrejo silba en la montaña. La colección de pósters mostrada en la exposición “Beyond Gravity” son un tributo a lo imposible. Un estudio detallado de criaturas que nunca he visto y de lugares donde nunca he estado. Los colores intensos y los vectores de formas geométricas por las que mi estilo de ilustración es conocido, son ahora reemplazados por una escala de grises extravagante y texturas de pincel orgánicas. Ciudades voladoras y caballos balanceantes. Además de estos nuevos pósters, se muestra una selección de mis piezas favoritas del portfolio. Mantén tu cabeza en las nubes y no pongas un pie en el suelo. Y sé bienvenido.
